In the live CD, auto eth0 worked fine.After installation, it cannot connect.I am using vaio laptop VPCCW16FG, there is a known display bug therefore i am booting into the OS with 'nomodeset'.i have no access to the internet and cannot update repos, therefore i cannot work around the bug.

Although I can install packages just fine and there are no issues with running installed applications, I must have screwed up the configuration of /etc/apt/sources.list because I get this output when I do apt-get update:

I'm using openSUSE 11.3 with KDE 4.5.4. The updater applet works fine for me, however I think it only checks for updates from the update repo. I tried to modify this behaviour by right clicking the icon and checking "show available updates, when the backend provides it(for experts)" (translation from polish so it may not be 100% accurate) but the behaviour is the same, it only prompts me when there are updates available in the update repo but I would like it also to prompt me when there are updates available in the packman and KDE stable repo. Is it possible to force the updater applet to do this ?

Is there an easy way to update Perl from repos or do I need to compile from source to get a newer version?

I'm trying to set-up MailScanner which requires a newer version of Perl IO than CentOS 5 appears to have in it's standard repos. I've also tried updating Perl from the rpmforge repo - but that just results in a bunch of transaction conflicts being reported by Yum. Is there another way of updating Perl from repos?
My problem starts with trying to run "apt-get update", I get a long hang time for some reason. View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to setup PS3 media server on my new OpenSuse 11.2 and I'm being unable to connect to the PS3. The multimedia server seems to being working ok, only it has not appear on XMB.
I've been searching on PS3 Media Server forums and try a couple of solutions regarding /etc/hosts and adding full qualified domain name of server to it, but it doesn't seems to work.
I cannot use cvs within eclipse to connect to the server, but when I use cvs in terminal everything works fine.

I downloaded few updates yesterday and installed them, but i didnt reboot and the wlan worked fine, but after restarting the system it didnt find any wlan connections, so i rebooted, tried rebooting modem and using lan but nothing worked. i know the wlan and lan is working becose my desktop computer and ps3 are working fine. So what should i do? Do i need to do system restore, reinstall or what?
Is my computer model badly supported, as i also had problem with 9.10 install, it complained about bad sectors and crashed, and even low level format didnt find any bad sectors!!

Im not sure about the wlan system but its built in and doesnt need any cards. Only problem i have ever had with wlanwas that it couldnt connect password protected wlan.
I've been running Ubuntu 10.04 x64 for about a week now, and it's been working flawlessly until today. This morning when attempting to connect to my wireless network, I click on the wireless icon (which currently has an ! next to it), find my network, and it begins to seem as if it is connecting, but then a pop-up comes up stating: "Wireless Network -- disconnected". No matter how many times I restart or attempt to connect to the network, it will not connect. I can see that the adapter is working, as it sees my network and others; however, it will not connect, it continually seems as if it's trying, then the pop-up comes up stating it has been disconnected. All of a sudden Update Manager cannot connect to Internet. I just recently fixed a problem I had with playdeb not installing the games due to a internet connection problem (fixed by downloading the script instead of terminal method), this is the only big change I done recently other than downloading documents and pictures.
Here is the detail as to where or why it cannot connect code...
The server connects fine, I can load pages, FTP in, etc. So everything seems good on that end. When I try to use the internet from the Ubuntu box, however, it doesn't seem to want to connect. The internet won't load through firefox, and attempting to update through the repository won't connect. I've tried playing around with refreshing the connection and rebooting and such, but nothing seems to be fixing this. I can't think of what the issue may be as the connection is working, as I can get on the server, but can't seem to get it to connect outward from the actual box.

However, when I rebooted I could no longer connect to the Internet. I went to network manager and looked at the details of my connection. Everything ok there. IP address, DNS, etc. However, I cannot connect. I have windows xp running on the same system. I can still connect, so there is nothing wrong with my Internet connection.I am using Fedora 10 2.6.27.12-170 There is one thing I have noticed when I shutdown is I see this: "Network manager Int PIC disabled" However, this is only displayed for a few seconds before the computer swiches off.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am not able to connect to network after update F13 to 2.6.34.7-61. Because there is "no netwokr decvice" IAW network manager. There is nothing in system log that abonormal. But, there is a fail initialization in the boot message. "applying firewall rules: iptable v1.4.7:Ip6table-restore: unable to initialize table .filter error occur at line 3 try Ip6table-restore -h or Ip6table-restore -help for more detail"
so, I tried the comment at terminal with root clearance, it just give some feed back about how to use this command. When I tried out other options. none of them work. There is no feed back form the terminal other than previous display and blanking cusor.
I assume it was the firewall preventding me to connect to network. And I complete disable SELinux and reboot. Problem remain, no network device. Check network device driver. There all inplace. Tried using old kernel, unble to boot up X window, presumably old driver has been deleted.
BTW, after two consecutive update failure (2.6.34.7-54 kernel panic VFS? problem, 2.6.34.7-61 no network connection), I assume Fedora Quality should consider review their update release process. Since the probability of fedora releasing bad update is increase a lot after fedora 11.

When i try to connect to my server via port 443 i get a connection refused error. However when i try to connect via port 22 it connects. Since that didn't work, i tried restarting the entire server.To restate, i changed the config file and restarted ssh then the computer, however the port didn't change.Ohh and yes my router is set to port forwarding on port 443, though it doesn't matter since I'm inside the network.

I have a huawei e230 modem that used to work pretty good until this week. It has always been much slower on linux than windows but I am not complaining because windows keep disconnecting ever hour or so, while linux can stay connected over night without problem. The modem is still recognized but when I try to connect it suddenly disappears.
