I have recently upgraded to ubuntu 11.04 on amsi wind 100. i had ubuntu 10.10 netbook version. Since i have installed the new version in evolution i unable to add new email accounts, as the pop up box is to large for my screen and there is no side scrollbar.

I've installed Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook Remix on my girlfriend's computer, and everything went fine except the computer *thinks* it's got an 11'' monitor when it's actually something like 10.2". As a result, since Ubuntu windows now relies heavily on the screen size parameters, everything goes "out of the monitor": browser window, background image, etc In System -> Display, I see it's set as an 11'' monitor...do you know how I can modify this value to be 10'' ? There used to be an Xorg.conf that one could edit to permanently modify these values but now it's nowhere to be found
View 5 Replies View RelatedI feel really stupid posting this, but I can't find what I am looking for. I feel like I have a decent understanding what is going on, but I am missing something very elementary. I have several mpc clientpro machines that are all in one's with 17" monitors built in. I can't get any resolution to fill the screen. I have been playing around with settings in xrandr, to no avail.
In windows xp it is usually ran at 1024x768 resolution which is supported. However there will be about 2 1/2 inches of blank space on the right side of the scree. and then another 2 1/2 inches of blank space on the bottom followed by about 2" of what seems to be a mirror of the top 2". I can change to several different resolutions all taking up different sizes of the screen, but nothing will fill it.
I understand I can't just do anything I like, like it would be unreasonable to expect the card to output 1920x1080. But can't I get it to at least fit the screen? Whether it was 1024x768 or 1152x864 or 800x600.
I have been searching and searching, and I think I am just simply misunderstanding a key term that is not allowing me to find more information on this. Something like panning, overscan, etc.
I'm running Hardy 8.04.. Once in a while when I boot up my system, all of my fonts are different - everything is very large. If I go into the screen resolution, I have no choices higher than 800x600. If I restart the system, there is a good chance that the screen resolution will go back to normal. what I can do to fix it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just downloaded Lucid Lynx to my desktop that is hooked up to my 60" Mitsubishi DLP television. I cannot find a way to adjust my screen size. Under display Lynx believes I have a 70" tv. I have tried changing resolution size. I can't seem to shrink it down enough even though I've picked some of the lowest numbers available. Is there an easier way to readjust the screen so that I would atleast be able to see my toolbars instead of guessing where they may be?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've just installed Ubunter Server 9.04 (after having installed 9.10, having problems with it, and uninstalling it). Mostly, 9.04 is working well so far, but for one nuisance: the font is huge.
Well, okay, not huge, but big. On my other machine, running Ubuntu 9.04 desktop, same size monitor, I have the resolution set to 1440x900 which gives me 46 lines on the CLI (with the window maximized, but not full-screen). On the server machine, however, I'm getting only 25 lines -- and there's not even a window title-bar, menu bar, or panels taking up any of the landscape.
So my question is this: Not having a GUI nor any of the associated display-management software, how can I set the screen resolution or otherwise get my display font smaller, using the CLI?
Can the size of the Ubuntu desktop window be reduced so that it displays on a monitor or via a data projector with a surrounding black border? If so, how? The tragicomic chain of events which leads to the question is as follows. Community group, short of cash, want to equip lecture room. Pull-down screen is set up permanently on one wall. Contractor sets up old data projector via ceiling mount. Data projector is just too far away from wall, such that image cannot be reduced sufficiently by the data projector to fit on the screen.
Annoyingly the image, as displayed, is only slightly too large - just enough to lose the top and bottom panels, Applications menu, File Menu on full-size windows, Indicator applet, Trash, and restore desktop button. The data projector is hooked up via VGA cable to a recycled PC running Ubuntu 10.04 with proprietary NVidia driver (version 173) for GeForce 8400 GS. I'll give anything to be able to do this on the PC, rather than having to move the projector!

View 4 Replies View RelatedRunning new installation of 11.3 with KDE Desktop. I have sorted out text appearance and size thanks to pwabrahams in another thread but I have a big problem with screen size/resolution.
In previous installation of 11.1 on the same machine I was able to change the resolution of the graphics in order to fit the windows on the screen more comfortably. I used to use something like 1240 x 1048 but in the System Settings > Computer Administration > Display the resolution is set at 832 x 624 and no higher resolutions are offered.
I cannot find out the details of the embedded graphics controller (10 year old Dell PE6300 server) but the system information report it as ATI Mach64 GI with swrast (No 3D acceleration) version 7.8.2. I have spent several hours reading the many pages on graphics in this forum and have concluded that I should probably be using a legacy driver but have no idea how to change the driver. Of course if it were possible to increase the resolution to 1240 X 1048 without recourse to changing driver that might do it if I knew what setting to tweak.
Does anyone know of a way to make the hulu screen size smaller? The smallest that I can get it is still taking up about 1/4 of my screen.,

In Ubuntu 11.04, all windows display larger than the available screen size, and I haven't found a way to make them fit within the display area of the monitor. This is a Dell 19" flat screen monitor, and I've tried changing the display; no matter what resolution is selected, the windows all bleed past the screen.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've already installed x11vnc and have it running well on my laptop upstairs. I can access my existing desktop session with no real problems, it works great. The problem I'm running into is the fact that I'm accessing my computer upstairs which is driving two 1920x1080 monitors, accessing it by VNC on my 1280x800 laptop (meaning I have to scroll a 3840x1080 desktop on my 1280x800 screen. I've looked into running multiple VNC screens, but this doesn't seem to be the best solution, and I don't know if I can do this with x11vnc. I know that I can run native VNC screens at different geometries, but I don't think that this helps much, as each VNC screen is essentially a new session running basically nothing.
A while back in my sys-admin days, I remember having to set up a desktop environment on a Fedora machine. What was cool was that each VNC screen I created launched the default desktop environment. It "just worked," no fuss. Mind you, it wasn't the same desktop on each screen, but it worked.
Installed fine, logged in, but there aren't any panels visible on my screen, so I can't do anything. How do I resize the screen without access to the panels?
EDIT - Never mind, got it working.
What I mean is I'd like to watch stuff in its original size but with the rest of the screen black, the way it is in full screen view (but I don't want it zoomed). RealPlayer calls this option "theatre view". Is there a line I can put into terminal? I tried

and changing commenting in zoom=yes and changing it to zoom=no. Made no difference.
In 10.4 I had set my default terminal size to my screen width - I type some long commands. After running an update this morning, my terminal comes up in the install default size. Using the preferences dialog, I cannot find the control to set the default width. Has it been removed? I hope I'm looking in the wrong place, but I have a chilling feeling that it's been dropped or perhaps just accidentally commented out.

Screen resolutions look good, running at 1024x600, as I set in xorg.conf. My question is, some applications, (gimp/firefox are good examples) open windows that are too big for the screen. I was wondering if there was a way I can set apps to use the limits of my screen size.

Where can I download respective drivers. Linux drivers coming with the mobo can't work. There is no driver for Linux on the CD coming with the display. Fonts becomes very large even selecting "8". The screen can't expand to the full size of the display.
I am using Fedora 11 and when the system booted, the screen resolution and font size were increased all of a sudden. Then I configured the screen resolution using

How come on x11vnc, with Fedora 12 PPC/x86/x64, my screen sizes can't be greater than 800 x 600, and they don't update when I change them in Displays. On my Ubuntu installations the x11vnc screen sizes update and can be basically any size selectable in Monitors.
