Let's say I install Ubuntu in a way that I use VirtualBox with it, so I can run it inside of Windows.
If you use a Linux-incompatible keylogger such as eBlaster on my computer, will it still record my keystrokes because I'm running it in Windows? Or will it be unable to detect anything since I'd be typing in Ubuntu?
I have ubuntu 10.04 running inside windows and want to make it the proprietary OS. I have an acer aspire 5517, are there any problems associated with this laptop's hardware and ubuntu.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 10.04 inside VMware Player running under Windows Vista and I can't connect to the internet or the host computer from the Ubuntu.
I have set all the VMware services to manual (like VMware DHCP Service), but starting them manually doesn't help.
In VMware, the network seems to work (there is a green dot beside the network icon) and I have tried both Bridged and NAT settings.
ifconfig doesn't show the eth1 interface, unless I give it as a parameter (or use -a). I think this means that Ubuntu thinks that the network isn't connected at all.
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 together with Windows 7 and when I launch Nautilus I have a list of all my (Windows) partitions in the navigation bar on the left. However I don't want to see all those partitions in Ubuntu (eg. the Windows system partition or the partition reserved for the Win boot loader. Is there a way I can control which partitions will be detected and listed for mount in Nautilus?

I want ET to be run as the user "et" and for some reason, I can't directly su/sudo to run the file without being in the user "et" and the "/media/ET" directory.
I am running Windows 7 inside Virtual Machine Manager - running on Cent OS 5.6. My problem is that the Windows 7 'Window', is only about half the size of the screen. Is there any to change the resolution of the OS running inside Virtual Machine Manager?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have to deal with a fairly psychopathic and untrustworthy person who is unfortunately the company's computer security expert, who is also an admitted hacker. I recently installed Slackware to prevent him from spying on my basic activities, deleting my windows and moving my mouse pointer, as he did when I had Windows on my PC. However I now need to make sure he isn't going to do the same with my Slackware installation. Other than reinstalling Slackware periodically, what can I do to detect spyware like a keylogger, or to detect that he has rootkitted commonly used parts of the distro to provide a backdoor etc? BTW I've never considered encrypted a hard drive but now that I'm dealing with this idiot I would be open to that.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI sshed to a server a week ago, then ran *screen* and created a few windows in my screen session. I then ran a few programs on those screens. All the programs were running in the background (I run them with &). I did not close or detach from the screen sessions. So I was still connected to those screen sessions from my client machine.
Then, this morning I find my client machine rebooted. When I do screen -ls I find there are no screens available to reattach to. But that is not the worst part. The strange thing is that all my processes (which were running on the server) have disappeared as well, even though they were running in the background. I thought 1) using screen I will be able to re-attach to old screens when my client restarts, 2) If I have sshed to a server and have run programs in the background, restarting the client should not stop those programs (even if I had not used screen).
I want to do the install inside windows mode, but I want to use all of the 104gb instead of only 30. This was the cause to another problem I recently had (running out of space). How do I install inside windows with all 104gb?

I run gparted (and yes i have ntfsprogs) but when i select the ntfs partition and select move/resize it brings up free space preceding... new size... and free space following.so when i input the new size the resize/move button greys out and when i change the freespace following it just puts back my original new size and back and forth.from what i have read i need to run the gparted livecd and go from there. is this true? i know how to do it with diskpart in windows, how to in ubuntu and eventually get rid of windows.my system is 64-bit.
