I have small problem with GNOME in Wheezy (trying it out just for fun). Whenever I start GNOME Shell and open any window, I get only blue color where windows should be. Entire window is just blue. Shell starts fine. GNOME Classic starts and works well too, even better than MATE in Jessie. My graphics card is old NVidia GeForce MX 440 8x AGP. I suspect it is causing problems.
Kernel is Wheezy's 3.2.

View 14 Replies View RelatedFound a weird issue with Openshot video editor ( Gnome, squeeze amd64 ) version 1.1.3-1 ( stable ) but it also applies after upgrading to version 1.3.0-1.1 ( from sid ).
After starting Openshot there are icons ( and tabs ) missing on the toolbar :

Choosing another gtk-style in gnome-appearance-properties : Theme > Customize... > Controls seems to solve it. I've checked different Controls, some have the same problem and others don't.....
I first recognized this bug with dual screen. The main screen the mouse pointer was working, but on the other screen after a short time, the pointer changes to a comb (multiple lines of pixel).
Now I have the same with one screen mode. I'm using catalyst propriatary driver for my Radeon R9 290X (cause I need dual head mode and 3D support, had no chance to bring it up working else).
I have just installed Debian Wheezy. However, on logging in for the first time it reverted back to what looks like gnome2. I think this is a graphics card issue...

I have Debian Testing. My theme is Equinox Light and it was working well except for "Passwords and Encrypton keys" app (Version3.02). That doesn't bothered me. But after todays upgrade from gnome-terminal (2.3.2-1) to gnome-terminal3 Equinox theme doesn't work. My themes are installed in /usr/share/themes folder. It doesn't matter if i copy them to my home theme folder. It seems that gnome3 apps doesn't support
Reverting to previous version fixes the problem but i want to have version 3 with nice theme. Ho w can i achieve it?

In Arc, I'm missing highlighting in the context menu, and in Numix, some application's backgrounds are just completely black. All of these themes don't give me a urlbar. I'm also missing a lot of boxes. There is no box around the word "submit" in reddit, and neither around "cancel". If you go into the search bar, I'm missing the checkbox for "limit my search to /r/...". I know these themes work, because I had them working in my last install of Debian. Except, last time I used the XFCE iso instead of the netinst. Even default themes, like Raleigh, are not working correctly. I installed all the necessary packages like the gtk2 murrine engine, but if the default themes aren't working then something is definitely missing.
View 0 Replies View RelatedI am trying to solve multiple issues with my 64x natty install using gnome3 ppa( official ppa from gnome3). I have this setup on two machines, one is a fresh install the other is a upgrade. They both have most of these issues. Here they are: 1) Nautilus will not launch from the favorites bar. It does launch from a shortcut on the desktop. It will not run from the terminal unless I am root. 2) Number lock is disabled at startup (enabled in my bios). I used to be able to enable after nattty had started, I no longer can, though num lock light is lit - number keypad does not work!
3) I have set gnome3 set to let nautilus draw the background and desktop, I get a white screen at boot until Nautilus is launched then I get a background and some desktop icons(no computer or network icons). If I plug in a usb drive the icon appears on my desktop, when I select it I loose the background and have to select it again.
4) Wireless randomly will drop the connection, have to reconnect, sometimes it will, sometimes I have to reboot. I have Fedora installed on a 2nd hard drive on the machine with a clean install and the only similarity is it displays the default desktop until I launch Nautilus, then my background and desktop are displayed with all of the icons. From there on out Fedora has none of these issues. I have used Ubuntu Gnome and XFCE as my only os since 6.0 and have never had this many problems. Both machines would not run the gdm because of Nvidia issues after the upgrade and clean install. I DO NOT want to give up on Ubuntu as I tell all my friends and family to use it.
First impressions I really like Debian, been running a server with it for a while and just last week switched to it on my main workstation.
I have only had one problem with video. I have a Geforce 210 with 1gb (1024x768 resolution) of ram and the proprietary Nvidia drivers installed from a repo. Thing is, in all video whether flash in my browser or movies in vlc, mpv, and mplayer, I have these weird overlays that scan over the video, especially in scenes where the camera zooms in, long distance shots seem unaffected.
Also, almost every video I start whether flash or movie file, I get a flash of a green bar at the bottom of the screen very quickly and barley noticeable.
Now I know thats a rough description so I attached two screen shots (link at bottom of post), the affected area is circled in red on one, also I have attached a png of a similar image that may be more enlightening.
Notice the quality of the second screen shot, especially around Will Ferrell's head, and the greenish yellow line leading down his shoulder and arm. The general quality seems terrible. The film is in 720p and looks great in Mac.
I had the proprietary drivers installed in Slackware 14.1 and Mac OS 10.10.5(Nvidia Web Drivers) on this system, with this card and did not have this problem.
I'm in gnome latest version.

So I'm having a weird issue with Gnome 3 in Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit (daily-live 4.25.2011). Anyways here's the issue, some windows File Menu bar is like the classic GTK style and doesn't look anything like the other windows, even though its an updated version. For example this happens on Gnome Terminal (3.0) and Empathy (3.0) and Nautilus (3.0) and a few others, but Firefox is fine, etc.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have yet another minor source of confusion in GNOME3... Imagine this: you have opened several terminal windows which cover most of your desktop, and a Firefox browser window. In Firefox you have an image which contains some data that you must type to one of the terminal windows. Since the data is in an image (not as a text), you can't use cut & paste to transfer it from Firefox to terminal.
In GNOME2 (and Windows), you can interleave the Firefox window and the terminal window so that the terminal window is on top of the Firefox window. You can place the terminal window so that it does not cover that part of the Firefox window which contains the data that you must type to the terminal window.
But in GNOME3, if I activate the terminal window, all open terminal windows are shown on top the Firefox window. In order to see the Firefox window again, I have to minimize or move those terminal windows which cover the part which I want to see while typing into the one terminal window. I think this is clumsy. Is there any way to switch back to the GNOME2 behavior which allows interleaving windows from different applications?
The way I switch in between applications is doing Alt+Tab as I am a "keyboard oriented" person. But now with Gnome3 I have a problem: Firefox windows are by default grouped and Alt+Tab can't simple enable me access all the windows. Do you know how to undo this Gnome3 feature?

We have DockbarX in GNOME, which is nice (grouping the windows like Windows 7), but it doesn't enable the <Win>+<2> style keybaord shortcuts.This is not restricted to making Linux like Windows. But I just find the <Win>+<2> style shortcut very useful. Are there similar ways in Linux to quickly switch between specific apps without pressing <Alt>+<Tab> many many times?

I've searched a the issue and found some solutions to other Creative ZEN models ,but none worked for me.

I am looking for a Rhythmbox style mediaplayer that plays dts music.VLC works excellent but it would be very nice with a GUI more suited for a music library (Artist/Album/Genre/..).I have a dual screen setup and I have the music on a separate 8" touch screen (MyhtTv on the other screen - the tv) so if there is a software handling both reular mp3/flac/ogg music and dts with a touch screen adapted gui that would be ideal.

For those familiar with mac os x, they have a messenger program that along with iMessage, also allows you to send SMS text while on your computer via text message forwarding with your phone. View 0 Replies View RelatedI installed and removed Gnome3 and reinstalled Gnome2.x (epic fail and stupidity) and in the process I have lost audio. I tried to install whatever possible package was removed by studying /var/log/dpkg.log. This fixed my other issues like no right click on desktop and blunt looking buttons etc. Now I have everything in order but sound is missing. I don't see sound section in gnome-control-center. Here are some findings:
