View 1 RepliesMy scanner is Benq 5000 ,the default scanning software (xsane) give me the following message whenever I plug the scanner to the pc :
Failed to Open Device 'Snapscan:libusb:005:002' Invalid Argument.
I tried the gnome image scanning software too but it didn't recognize the scanner at all. The only software that worked is vuescan but unfortunately it is non-free software !!!!
I just received a Canon Pixma MX320 as a gift.
I am currently running the Ubuntu 10.04 OS
I was able to get the printer up and running by downloading the printer driver for debian linux (3.1) from the Canon site without any problems.
Unfortunately I am not having the same luck with the scanner.
I tried downloading ScanGear MP for Linux (deb) (1.3) from the same Canon site but have not yet been able to get the XSane Image Scanner to recognize this scanner driver for my Canon.
during advance graphical debian squeeze installation, it displays the following message Detect network hardware Some of your hardware needs non-free firmware files to operate. The firmware can be loaded from removable media, such as a USB stick or floppy.
The missing firmware are: iwlwifi-5000-5.ucode iwlwifi-5000-4.ucode iwlwifi-5000-3.ucode iwlwifi-5000-2.ucode iwlwifi-5000-1.ucode If you have such media available now, insert it, and continue.
I was able to get my Epson Stylus NX510 printer up and running (after much issue), but I can't get the scanner working. I'm on a laptop, and the printer/scanner is wifi enabled and broadcasts with its own IP address. I can print with no problem, but xsane and simple scan don't recognize the scanner. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.

It's connected and printer is working through the scanner. But i can't get the system to recognise the scanner.
I'm all new to Ubuntu, and i thought it was easy and terminal is a totally new thing to me.
Is there a workaround to get this scanner to work through graphical interface install, or is terminal wisdom needed...
i have installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a Benq Joybook S72. After adding radeon-kms.conf everything works fine except the sound. I read a lot of websites but found no solution for my problem. The audiosettings and the alsamixer a adjusted right but the is no sound neither from the spaeakers nor from a plugged in headphone. I have attached some details:
Code:

I've installed XSane Image Scanner. When I first opened it, it searched for my scanner and didn't give any error messages, and it had my scanner model in the heading of the scan window. But when I hit the scan button, it gave me saying, "Failed to start scanner: error during device I/O.I closed everything, and opened XSane again. This time it said there was no scanner available. The scanner is plugged into the USB port and uses that for both power and data. It's a Canoscan Model N650U.

After command sane-find-scanner:

Recently got a Canon Canoscan 8800F after looking it up on the SANE site and said it was completely supported for Linux.
I have downloaded the pixma drivers and have compiled the command line program, but it can't find the scanner.

I try to stay max 3 releases behind with Fedora, and now it is time to upgrade from a well behaving Fedora 8 to Fedora 11, not to slip too far behind. I have an Intel motherboard with a 82865G video chip. My display is a BenQ FP731. Fedora 8 the display works nicely giving 1280x1024 resolution at 72 Hz. On Fedora 11 the 865G chip ensists on setting the refresh rate to 75 Hz. I have copied the xorg.conf I use in Fedora 8 to /etc/x11/xorg.conf in the Fedora 11 installation. The chip sets itself to 60 Hz or 75 Hz, but not the desired 72 Hz which would give clear picture. What am I missing here?
Below a copy of my xorg.conf that gives the crystal clear and desired 1280x1024 @ 72Hz in Fedora 8 but gives a shivering and unusable 1280 x 1024 @ 75 Hz in Fedora 11:

I'm currently using ubuntu 10.04 version. I've recently purchased a BenQ E2200HD monitor. However, the monitor is unable to configure a resolution higher than 800x600. I've tried changing it via 'preferences' - 'monitor' etc. The monitor model is 'unknown'. and the highest resolution available is the 800x600.
I've tried changing it manually, but it says x.cong file does not exist. Xrandr doesnt seem to work either. Or i would get CTRC 262. My current set up is, intel i5 2600, 4GB Ram, Nvidia GTS 240. I'm pretty certain, my graphics card (despite being in the low end) can support HD resolution. Even if it can't, it surely can support a resolution higher than 800x600.
first off, I wanna say that Fedora 12 really impresses me. I am a longtime Ubuntu User and Fedora really suprised me especially in terms of speed. Unfortunately my sound is not working. I had this problem a long time in Ubuntu, too. Then I discovered that I only had to switch off Exchange Front/ Surround in the alsamixer and everything worked fine. However, with the arrival of PulseAudio I don't get any sound from my speakers.
I went through some Guides but nothing seems to work. When I play an audio file I can see the amplitude going up and down in the Volume Meter of PulseAudio. So I think PulseAudio is working on the application side.
with
Code:
alsamixer -c 0
I can see that everything is set as it was in the passed for my soundcard. Exchange Front / Surround is switched off.
Code:
cat /proc/asound/
[Code]...
I hope you have any suggestions. Usually I look through the net till I find a solution. This time, however, I don't really know what to search for, since I tried everything I found except getting rid of PulseAudio which is my last option.
So Ubuntu had been working great in Lucid, and when I upgraded to Maverick the support for my graphics card stopped. It has the proper driver ("ATI/AMD Proprietary FGLRX graphics driver") active and fglrx, fglrx-amdccle and fglrx-modaliases are all at 2:8.780-0ubuntu2. I also have the xorg radeon package installed. Yet, whenever I try to enable desktop effects (to get compiz to work) it says that Desktop effects could not be enabled.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am pretty new to Ubuntu 10.10 and have been unable to successfully print to a HP Designjet 5000 42inch non Postscript printer that uses hpgl/2. I have installed other types of printers with no problem but this one has me beat so far. I will primarily want to print banners from Inkscape that will average 3 x 12 feet in size, and at least 150 dpi, so will need to be able to define custom size sheets. Currently I develop a project in Inkscape then print to file as a pdf, open the pdf from a windows xp machine on the same network with Adobe Reader and print to the Designjet from Adobe. This worked fine until I upgraded Adobe Reader to 10.01, it won't print very large files to the Designjet, iether. It would be very nice if I could print directly from Inkscape in Ubuntu to the Designjet printer. I do not print from Inkscape in Windows XP because the large files put both the program and operation system into a permanent non responsive state if they do not crash outright. I am able to print large files on the XP machine from Corel Draw 12 with no problem, but have not been able to get Corel Draw to accept any of the svg files that Inkscape produces.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new ASUS laptop with the Mobility Radeon HD 5470 card.It seems like there's no driver for it yet (the amd.com download wizard is a dead end because I only find the HD 4000 series).
Is there anything I can do to get support for this card? At least I'd like to be able to change resolution. Or do I simply have to wait for a new ATI driver?
I'm having trouble getting X to work after switching from onboard intel video to a 5000 series ATI card. Apparently I need to switch to a MESA or fglrx driver. I did a sudo apt-get install fglrx-driver and it installed but still no X. I'm currently using Karmic. I've tried to boot with a live CD which works fine and changed the xorg file manual but that was a mess.
When I start I get a checking battery state ... done and it stays there forever sometimes and sometimes I can login but without x. Typing startx gives me a long list that says check the xorg website. I've been looking around for a way to fix this and haven't been able to get it working.
In vlc, cheese I'm getting only this resolution.

I have a new system with an ati mobility radeon hd 5730 chip. As far as I know, there are new drivers in the works, but aside from some articles, I haven't found anything that specifically tells me how to get them installed/working (at least, so that it works for the 5000 series of radeon chips).Has anyone had any luck with this yet? I'm just at the stage of installing, so I don't really care if it involves a different distro, etc. I've tried Ubuntu 9.10 and 10.04-alpha2, as well as Fedora 12 (from the live CD) and so far no luck.At the moment, all I care about is getting the native 1600x800 working for my screen. I haven't a clue how do do that...it seems like I might be able to do this using xrandr, but I don't know how to create a mode properly.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having a strange problem with the Opensuse 11.2 Xorg server. Graphics hardware is Nvidia Quadro FX-5000, driver is ver 190.53. 90% of the time, I am getting a seg violation from the Xserver on trying to login via kdm:

...is the error that is present in the "kdm.log" file. So far, it doesn't seem to be user dependent (happens either as root or joe random user,) Again, so far, it only seems to happen with "driver nvidia" enabled in the config file, not with "driver nv" The failure occurs shortly after hitting return on the login screen. After it fails, it starts up a new Xserver, and presents a new login screen. Repeated attempts seem to *eventually* succeed, but 90% of the time, it fails I strongly suspect the Nvidia driver, but I have not been able to find anything documenting any similar problems.
