Ubuntu :: Restore Dead Mouse And Keyboard Input From Live Cd?

Jan 1, 2011

how I restore dead mouse and keyboard input from the live cd. Basically what happened was I was updating the machine and decided to let them run in the background while my sister's 6 year old son played some tux computer games, when he was finished he switched the entire computer off at the power button and it was still updating in the background. Now there is no mouse or keyboard input, I cannot get into the recovery console, nor can I control a terminal from the login screen in order to successfully complete the update. This means basically the only option to fix it would be to re-install or fix the human user interface device drivers (keyboard and mouse) via the live cd, I am in need of some advice or instructions on how to go about fixing this issue.

Ubuntu :: Unable To Get Any Keyboard/mouse Input To Register On Screen?

Dec 19, 2010

I installed Ubuntu a couple of months ago using the Wubi installer.Today, I went to restart my PC, but soon after hitting 'Restart' the computer became unresponsive. I couldn't get any keyboard/mouse input to register on screen, so I did a force shut down by holding down the power button. When I turned the computer back on, I selected Ubuntu from the boot menu. The computer printed some messages that passed by relatively quickly so I'm not sure exactly what they said, but it was something along the lines of "NTFS3: wubibuilder failed to load", and then it went straight back to the boot menu. Tried again and again with no success, so I loaded my Windows 7 install to investigate from there. I found a link to Explore2fs on these forums, so I loaded it up, but it apparently can't locate my Ubuntu partition, or at least I don't see my files. I ran the Wubi installer again to see what it would say, and it tells me that a previous installation was detected, and gives me the option to uninstall. Does anyone have an idea of what went wrong,

Slackware :: On KDE Log-in Screen Mouse Pointer And Keyboard Input Not Acknowledged

Oct 10, 2010

I just recently installed Slackware onto a virtual machine(I'm planning on buying a new disc drive and 1 TB HDD with-in the next couple of months and plan on Slackware being my primary OS[right now Mac OS X 10.6 is]), and everything went great.

I then went onto edit the /etc/inittab file in emacs and changed the run-level to 4. I don't know why it's decided that I'd want to boot into KDE when XFCE is installed and in the configuration I selected XFCE but it's not really relevant(I have a WM guide thing open in another tab and will probably be able to change it).

The problem is, as the vague title may suggest, is that it basically freezes when I'm at the log-in screen. The input field for the username is highlighted and blinking, and the cursor it self is visible in the centre of the screen, but it simply doesn't pick up on any input from my keyboard or mouse.

I tried booting up the install CD and logging in as root, mounting sda4(which is the root partition) and editing said file but sudo isn't installed(to my knowledge) on the install disc and when I do the command,

Ubuntu :: Remote Doesn't Work Without Keyboard / Mouse Plugged In - Restore Its Functionality?

Oct 11, 2010

I (finally!) have Mythtv working under 10.04. I use the Haupaugge DVB-T card with its remote. Whilst setting up the kit this worked OK. When I unplugged the keyboard and mouse the system prior to installing it next to the TV appeared to have stopped responding to the remote. In fact it seems to be responding to a number of the remote keys but not the OK and Go keys which isn't enough to run Mythtv.

I don't think leaving a keyboard & mouse plugged in is going to be domestically acceptable.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to restore lirc functionality?

Ubuntu :: No Mouse Or Keyboard With Live CD

Feb 17, 2011

When booting to the live cd, I have keyboard function enough to choose the proper entry to load os. The os starts loading and I can use keyboard to choose language, keyboard etc. About the time it gets to what time zone I'm in, it freezes. No mouse and no keyboard. I have tried this with both Ubuntu 10.04 and Mint 10. My hdd with Windows XP works fine. There are a lot of complaints and requests for help on the 'Net about this but no answers. I have Mint 10 on my main computer and have used Ubuntu for a year or so, meaning I have been able to load and use them with no problems. I have scoured my BIOS for any changes needed and can't find any. Neither USB nor PS2 keyboards or mice work. I have seen some posts about editing xorg.conf or the grub but how can I do that when I have no control after a second or two.

Ubuntu Installation :: Keyboard And Mouse Failure When Trying To Run Live Disk

Oct 9, 2010

Keyboard and mouse failure when trying to run a live Ubuntu disk on an Acer Aspire M1641 desktop. I was trying to show off the Ubuntu system to a colleague when to my surprise as it booted up both keyboard and mouse died. There was no response at all, the only option was to use the power button, rebooting into Vista all back to normal. I tried several other versions of Ubuntu going back 8.04 even Knoppix failed to get the keyboard and mouse working. Even after re installing the windows drivers and several more attempts even changing keyboard and mouse, I could not get any linux live disk to work.

Fedora Installation :: 11 Live CD Won't Detect Keyboard Or Mouse And Speakers During Boot

Sep 12, 2009

I am running Vista on my C: drive and I just got Fedora 11. I planned to dual boot Vista and fedora 11. I Downloaded the Live CD from the site (680 +- MB) and burned the files IN the .iso file to an empty DVD and CD. Shrank my D: drive and now have about 27 GiB wort of unpartitioned space. I booted from the Live CD. everything went OK until i chose Boot from the Boot Menu that came up. First it took me to a screen with the following message:

ACPI: expecting a [reference] package element found type 5. and then in went on to boot normally. Then when it reached the user login screen, I found that my mouse and keyboard were'nt responding and that there was no lights on any of the keys. I checked the USB cables and did a hard shutdown and booted from the Live CD again, but the problem persists.

OpenSUSE Install :: Kde Dead - How To Restore It Without Reinstall 11.1

May 4, 2010

After have the gui completly f***d up with an upgrade that messed up kde, I'm about to restore the original kde from the installation dvd (11.1) but there is no particular options to only restore kde, so I have concerns concerning some of those applications compiled and installed after the original installation (two years backward). I also updated the kernel to make things work with vmware...I don't want to loose time to recompile all the different stuff I need to work with linux.

Is there a way to be sure (by renaming /usr /bin /sbin for example) to keep the kernel alive (with libraries and headers) and all applications that were working very good before I did this update for kde (I won't do this again trust me)?The kde group never told me how restore kde from the original dvd so I'm a little disappointed because the system is working ok in run level 3.only kde is dead.I'll dig deeper before doing the reinstallation of suse 11.1...

OpenSUSE Install :: System Crippled (no Input) Totally Dead

Mar 20, 2010

OpenSUSE 11.2 x86_64
Kernel 2.6.33-34.1(from Kernel:HEAD repo)
KDE 4.4.1

Did the daily set of updates today, which included the kernel, but that update only had to do with enabling IPV6 on all flavors of the kernel. The update also included updates to the xorg packages from the X11:XOrg repo. However I was prompted that a requirement couldn't be met and one of the options was to downgrade xorg-x11-driver-input to the previous revision (not previous version). I thought that wouldn't matter so I did it.

I reboot and I am able to choose the kernel I want in the grub boot screen, get to the KDM login screen, however, after that the input is totally dead! Mouse and keyboard don't work whatsoever. I have a Logitech Cordless Desktop Wave mouse (LX8) & keyboard so I tried it with a standard PS/2 wired mouse & keyboard but it produced the same exact problem.

Ubuntu :: Recovering Files From Dead Mac Using Live?

Sep 30, 2010

I have a Macbook that I need to recover files off of. Problem is that the screen is bad, and I have no way of booting the thing up to access the filesystem. So now I have the hdd plugged into a PC and have booted the ubuntu live cd. I can access the drive, but my pictures, music, and library folders have a red x marked over them indicating I do not have permission to view their contents. I have been trying to change the permissions to no avail. For some reason I cannot navigate to the directory through the terminal to change the permission. Instead, when I go to cd /media/Macintosh HD is throws a No such file or directory error.

The Macs hdd is already mounted, because I can access its file structure. I need to know how to get into the Macintosh HD through the terminal so I can give read/write permissions to the music and pictures folders.

Ubuntu :: No Reaction To Mouse Input?

May 17, 2010

I have a pc here, that after it has been running for some time (5 - 10min) stops reacting to mouse input. You can still move the mouse around, but nothing happens when clicking, the exception being that I can still put the cursor into the gnome shell. The keyboard still works. If I restart the gnome session, everything is fine again for a few minutes, before the problem starts again. The pc has a Nvidia 8800gtx pro card. I know that there were some issues with this cards and Lucid Linx, but I didnt find anything helpful on this particular problem. I did reinstall the proprietary drivers, but the problem persists.Something else that might be worth mentioning: At some startups there is a message displayed:"Gave up waiting for root device..." There is more, but I forgot to write it down last time it happened.

Ubuntu :: Keyboard Input Disabled In Flash

Mar 10, 2010

The issue I've been having is with Flash on websites; most notably, Livestream's Flash-based browser viewer, and Adult Swim's flash-based games. Clicking works perfectly fine, but the keyboard input is entirely disabled for the Flash area. Text boxes, or game controls, won't respond at all, even when everything else is still working. The only way to input any text into Flash-based text boxes is to write it somewhere else (Firefox's URL or Search bar, or in GEDIT), then copy+paste into the tect box (again, Ctrl+V won't work, only right-clicking and pasting will go through).

I've tried multiple versions of the Adobe Flash player, including the installer directly from Adobe's site, the adobe-flashplugin package in Synaptic, the flashplugin-installer package, and I believe I tried GNASH as well (although I'm not sure if that did anything).I haven't had a chance to attempt to downgrade either one yet, however, nor have I been able to test another browser.I've seen a few other issues of this sort pop up here before, but they've all either gotten no solutions, or they're a year or two old, or they're running into 64-bit-specific issues. Hopefully this is posted in the correct location, and fingers crossed someone has an answer (or better yet, a solution).
