Nov 30, 2009While I was installing 5.4, the keyboard did not response any more when the test CD media screen appeared. I have switched keyboard but the same happened again.

Aug 28, 2010I could not find any way to enable dead keys on my keyboard on Lubuntu 10.04 via gui.I created xorg.conf by using X -configure command and tried to add followings into /etc/X11/xorg.conf but it did not work.

It works in setting up my bios, and has always worked before, but I cannot choose any items on the installation menu. I found a bug report that seems to be this issue, but it said that this would be fixed when debian moves to the 2.6.32 kernel on the installer.

Jan 1, 2011how I restore dead mouse and keyboard input from the live cd. Basically what happened was I was updating the machine and decided to let them run in the background while my sister's 6 year old son played some tux computer games, when he was finished he switched the entire computer off at the power button and it was still updating in the background. Now there is no mouse or keyboard input, I cannot get into the recovery console, nor can I control a terminal from the login screen in order to successfully complete the update. This means basically the only option to fix it would be to re-install or fix the human user interface device drivers (keyboard and mouse) via the live cd, I am in need of some advice or instructions on how to go about fixing this issue.

Jul 18, 2010I'm trying to install slackware 32 bit 13.1.After loading kernel it asks for keyboard configuration, but keyboard (usb wireless) doesn't work.
Keyboard works on the old 13.0 installation, on bios and also in the boot options of 13.1 installation cd.
I've tried removing legacy usb support and changing usb2.0 speed from high to full. Nothing changed.
Anybody with this strange problem? (kernel of setup seems also to detect it correctly as a trust keyboard).
Server :: CentOS 5.5 - Dead On Network And No Signal On Monitor

Machine can't be pinged all of sudden and when we switch on the monitor, no signal on it, even no response on keyboard. We thought the problem accorded with abrupt temperature changes, is it so? But we have similar machines running efficiently under same temperature conditions.

Jul 7, 2010but I think I have a reasonable handle on the /etc/init.d, /sbin/service, chkconfig, and runlevels stuff under CentOS. However, when I install particular daemons (not part of CentOS distro), I get a weird issue. If I log in as root and do /sbin/service <daemon> status, it says "... is running...", however, if I log in as a non su, and do the same /sbin/service ... status, it says "xxx dead but subsys locked." Is the daemon running or not? I assume it's some kind of privilege issue with how the daemon is setup versus the non root login.I would like to have users be able to use service to query daemon status as works with the base daemons like sshd and httpd.

Aug 8, 2011I've got a box with a fresh installation of CentOS 5.6, but had several configs copied from an old 4.8 box that I've now got to finish. Most everything seems fine, but I can't get apache running. It reports that it starts up fine, but immediately stops and reports "httpd dead but subsys locked"Most of the advice I've found while searching suggests to just delete the http.pid file and restart, which doesn't help in my case. I did find a few problems where SELinux was restricting httpd from creating or touching certain files (I found reports in /var/log/messages) but I've worked through that.
So the big question here is: /var/log/messages and /var/log/httpd/error_log are now empty, and don't show any more errors when I restart httpd. Does anyone know where else I can look for reporting/logging on what's happening to httpd to cause it to die?
Debian Installation :: Servers "dead" After Installing 6?
Sep 11, 2011Today I tried installing 4 known working servers (which were running CentOS) with Debian 6 (x86 and x64). They are all of the same brand.After installing (which went fine) I rebooted the first server: the BIOS POST hangs at 78% and was not going any further. Powercycle again, CMOS wipe by removing the battery of the motherboard, replacing cables, reseating components, and so on. After rebooting the second server: same issue. POST hangs at 78%. As I can't get into the BIOS setup or PXE boot/USB boot I'm really wondering whats going on. All 4 servers are now "wrecked" in this way. I used the Debian netinstall image, and installed from various sources, like the surfnet and leaseweb mirror.Anybody any ideas about this? Does Debian 6 do anything firmware related during install?

The keyboard mapping is wrong (it didn't fit with the macbook keyboard, ex: the '-' is not on touch '6' for example...). Is there a way to apply macbook keyboard mapping? I didn't find how to modify the brightness of the screen. Where is this settings? It didn't appear in the video card settings that is very basic. Do I need to install a proprietary driver for my GMA on my macbook? Also, i will like to have this settings on the keyboard with the dedicated button (like for the sound that works well).

Jan 25, 2010I just took delivery of a new computer, with CentOS 5 installed. It does not have a PS/2 keyboard socket, only USB. I get lots of strange "key stuck" problems - usually the shift key or the cursor keys (I guess I use them the most). Or sometimes key presses do not register. It makes it very difficult to use the machine.I have tried two keyboards (both of which work fine on other machines, or on this machine when booted with a live CD). The machine is an Intel i7. Are there any known problems with USB keyboard drivers in CentOS?

Jul 15, 2009I am having a problem during a fresh install of CentOS 5.3 on an IBM Intellistation Z Pro 6221. I have tested the installation media (CDs). The install runs normally until I am asked to specify the appropriate keyboard.I take the default (English) and hit next. The keyboard and mouse keys become unresponsive though the mouse pointer moves. I can go no further than this. This behavior is the same whether I install in text mode or graphic mode. I have tried the noprobe installation option without success. The box I am doing the install on dual boots fine between Windows XP and CentOS 4.7 currently.Does anyone have an idea of what the problem may be?

Jul 10, 2009I've just changed from Fedora 8 to Fedora 10 and I'm having trouble installing a special alternative keyboard driver.
I used to be able to put the driver in the xkb/symbols directory, make entries for it in xkb/rules/base.xml and base.lst, and install with the System menu. Now I find that the Gnome tool no longer seems to be using the base files, and my driver doesn't show up.
Does anyone know where Gnome gets its list of drivers from? Alternatively, can I install it by editing a configuration file?

Sep 10, 2010Having a problem installing ubuntu Desktop or Server 10.04 (32 or 64) or 9.04. I put the cd in and start to install, all seems ok and then just before the 4 dots appear the light turns off on the mouse and keyboard lights go out. Then that it I have no ability to continue the installation even though it continues to load normally as I cant click or hit next.
I have tried multiple keyboards and mouse, different usb ports, different cd drive and hard disks. Basically everything except changing the motherboard which is a acer but cant see model number. If I replug the mouse back in I get a light but no action. If I choose "Try ubuntu" it loads to the desktop perfectly except I have no input devices! I have enabled usb legacy etc in BIOS.
Debian Installation :: Keyboard Not Identified During Installing Squeeze
Feb 12, 2011I am running lenny on my PC ( amd 64 / nvidia graphic ) without any problems. Since last week I tried to change to squeeze - without success. First step - update from lenny to squeeze accordingly to the upgrade description from the Debian homepage. After nearly 2 hours without any error message - Result : System dosen't boot after upgrade.
So I went back to lenny and tried the second step to get Squeeze working. I got the DVD "Debian-6.0.0-amd" and started the installation. After the second screen the keyboard is no longer identified and I cannot go on with the installation.

Aug 26, 2010I just recently purchased a Lenovo Netbook s10 3c which I planned to use for working and such. I have always been interested in the idea of using a Linux system, and so I downloaded the ISOs for Ubuntu Netbook 10.04 and also for Ubuntu Desktop 10.04 and 9.04 as well has Fedora 13. (I wanted to try some out.)
Unfortunately, for ALL of the distros, I run into a snag. When installing any of them, my keyboard will not respond to any keystrokes, even arrow keys, enter or caps lock. I have searched on google, linux forums, ubuntu forums and lenova's site, all to no avail. It seems that everyone who is having problems is having problems with some other sort of system which involves a virtual keyboard or USB keyboard (I do not want to have to use a USB keyboard - that would silly considering I bought the thing for easy portability).

I created RAID 5 array and is working fine (adaptec status says Optimal) but I can't install CentOS to that array (1.5TB size).
Whenever I try to install with: linux dd
I'm asked for a driver, which I have downloaded from Adaptec site and extracted contents to USB drive (in installation found as /sba1) which has now a lot of IMG and some ISO files on it.
I try to load (I simplified names) RHEL5.img, CENTOS.img... with x64 names (one exact name: aacraid driverdisk-CentOS-x86_64.img) and I always get the error message: "No devices of the appropriate type were found on this driver disk"
This is going on for a week now and I can't find the right driver or something I'm doing wrong to get install done.
