Ubuntu :: Remove Shortcuts In Laucher Of Unity Interface?
Aug 6, 2011
I am using the Ubuntu 11.04 and also windows 7 in my system. So when i opened the D drive which is NTFS file system in Ubuntu it creates a shortcut is the launcher. Previously when i had Ubuntu 10.04 shortcut appeared on desktop. Guys tell me why this happens i mean why shortcut appears in launcher or desktop .Is there any method to remove this?
I really like the Unity system in 11.04 Beta 2 and it is so very well behaved - on my desktop. However, there is one area where I am not quite so happy with.
I liked the Gnome tabs along the bottom right where I could click and change windows.
(a) Is there a keyboard short cut to do this? and (b) can I increase the number of screens from 4 to 8?
Previously, I set the keyboard shortcuts so "Mod4+L" (which is just one key) would lock my screen. However, after upgrading to 11.04, that key now acts like a "Super" key, even though the shortcuts haven't changed. I tried modifying the keyboard shortcuts, but that doesn't seem to do anything for me. I can't figure out a solution.
I have recently upgraded my netbook from 10.04 LTS desktop to 10.10 netbook as I really like the new unity feature.Anyway, I have a couple of prism shortcuts that I use for both my personal and work webmail (both are google apps). When I open them I select them to stay in launcher so they are always accessible. Problem is - as soon as I reboot my machine the prism shortcuts disappear from the Unity launcher. All my other shortcuts like chrome, file browser, open office etc all stay...it's just the prism shortcuts.Has anyone else found the same problem? I have searched the forums and can't find anything.PS Just in case any of you don't know, prism is a tool that lets you create a shortcut to any webpage, with a custom icon and a cut-down version of your browser (i.e. no tool bars cluttering the page) so the shortcut almost works like it's own application.
I'm running Ubuntu 11.4. I've played with different versions of Picasa, installing the Linux version via Ubuntu Software Center and also using Wine. At a certain point I had several versions of the application installed and things were getting. When I search for Picasa in the Unity application search field (clicking the button with the dot in the centre at the top left of my screen) I got several results for Picasa, some of which when clicked would start Picasa and some which wouldn't. When I remove all versions of Picasa both from Wine and native I still get some results for Picasa which don't start Picasa when clicked.
I've just noticed this morning that the number shortcuts that normally appear when holding the super key to show the Unity launcher are not there. The s, a and f shortcuts remain however. Also, just pushing the numbers that should be there doesn't do anything.
I've just upgraded from Maverick to Natty and things were mostly working fine until this. I'm not sure what changes have happened between now and then and I don't remember any major changes in that period.
I just tried to take a screenshot and opened GIMP to save it and I checked again and they have reappeared. So, I guess the new question is why did this happen? How can I solve this problem if it happens in the future? Should I mark this as solved? I don't really understand what happened either way.
I'm new to Ubuntu Netbook Remix, yesterday I installed Ubuntu tweak and un-installed Evolution Mail, and when I check to "Office" menu in the left menu sidebar, I couldn't remove the Evolution shortcut in it.
I am setting up my shortcuts on Ubuntu (System -> Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts) and there is no way to remove a shortcut. On the bottom of the screen says "(...) or press space to clear.", however, it doesn't work. The only way I found to remove a shortcut was to set up another shortcut with its keys, so it will be disabled.
My laptop (Acer Aspire 6930G) runs 10.10 like a dream. On my netbook (Asus 1001 pX) 10.10 sucks. And it uses the Unity interface which I suspect as being the problem. Apart from that I don't like it (the unity interface) - so I would love to know how to get rid of it.
The interface and everything was working fine at home. I packed up the laptop with me heading on a trip. I get to my location and power-up, I now can't see the Unity interface, but it's kind of there.I've tried to reboot the laptop, power off and back up, etc. I'm not really sure what would have cause this or where to even look at this point. You can see at the very left that the arrow is there and at the top that the bar is kind of there, but not really. ><
i just installed the ubuntu-netbook package to test out unity on my system.. on seems to work fine but how do i copy my files and folders to a usb drive ? wen i open files and folders using unity..it jus opens in a black window.. i cannot right click on any item..i can just open it.. how how do i do my normal file operations using it ?
I upgraded to 11.04, and I like the Unity interface. But every time I logout and back in (or restart) it starts in Classic mode. - If I go to Compiz, it shows that Unity is enabled. - When I login, it shows that the Unity interface is selected. - If I run Code: unity --replace in the terminal Unity will run, but then if I close the terminal, it will (sometimes)shut Unity back down.
I often use the option in Chromium to create 'application shortcuts'. These are instances of Chromium that make a website look more like an app by not including most of Chromium's toolbars. I use it for gmail and google docs and spreadsheets and calendar. In 11.04 I have set up Desktop launchers and copied them across to the Launcher (what an odd way to add something to the launcher, why no right-click 'add launcher' option?)
The problem is that the launcher thinks all these apps are chromium (which they are really, but I would like them to be seen as separate apps). If I minimize my gmail window, a little triangle appears next to the chromium icon, not the gmail icon. To get the window back, I have to click on the Chromium icon. Clicking on the gmail icon launches a new instance of it (also tied to the Chromium icon).
Having just upgraded to 10.10, I've discovered Unity, and I'm afraid its not for me. I absolutely loved the previous interface, and was quite shocked and saddened to see it disappear. But I'd like to keep all the other new software that comes with 10.10. So my question is, can I install the old 10.04 beautiful interface to run on the 10.10 edition? Re-installation is a MS solution, that turned me on to linux in the first place!
How is possible to enable the Unity interface on a desktop computer with virtual-box? i tried it but it runs like the desktop interface, i didnt notice any difference between the desktop mode.
There are these shortcuts in the GTK3 file chooser: [URL] ....
With the exception of "desktop" which I included in the red box by mistake, I don't want those shorcuts to be there. I've even deleted most of those folders from my home directory because I have no use for them, but the shortcuts remain even after the folders are gone.
How to remove/disable these shortcuts? And while I'm at it, I notice that it's not using my selected icon theme for those icons. Any way to make it use my choice of icon theme?
If i could then i would remove unity from my laptop. I run ubuntu 11.04. If not, then how can i edit it to change it to my preference. I want it to stay in bottom like a dock.
Just a few hours ago, I installed unity on a desktop version of Ubuntu using sudo apt-get install ubuntu-netbook. I'm not sure I want it any more. How do I go about uninstalling this package (and the related packages)?
So I upgraded Ubuntu and was greeted by Unity. I was unsure of it at first and figured I would give it a shot. It has failed miserably in almost every way aside from looking nice in some instances. It's slow, clunky, and was a total wreck to my efficient use of the computer. But they can't all be winners I suppose. I can see where it would be useful (since it seems more finger-friendly) on a tablet device, but I'm using a standard notebook, not a tablet.
That being said, I switched back to what is now "Ubuntu (Classic)" and have put things happily back on track. However, since I have no intentions of ever bothering with Unity again, I want to remove it - it's just wasting space. My questions are, would this be safe? Are Unity and Ubuntu entwined to the point where doing so would make future updating/upgrading a problem? If it is a problem for the future, I feel it would be easier to just change distros (Mint, OpenSUSE, or just Kubuntu) - any recommendations?
I have some icons in the Dash - Applications that were for running applications in Wine.. I removed Wine because I am using Crossover, but those dead links/icons are in there.I tried to drag to trash can, hit DEL, etc..I see how to add items, but not remove..
I'm using the Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Remix and therefore I have the built-in netbook interface: (pictured) תצלום מסך-1.jpgIs there any way to remove this and get the standard desktop? because in this one I don't really have a desktop and can't create Shortcuts to specific files and folders.
Any way to add / remove directories within the Unity File Manager? If so how, If not and Ubuntu is looking to make Unity its default file manager... I will just have to say goodbye to Ubuntu. After all what's a file manager if you can't add or remove files or directories.
Running Ubuntu 11.04 and installed Gnome3 upgrade. Messed things up big time. Ubuntu will load, but will shut down when I try to access almost anything but terminal. How can I remove Gnome 3 or try to get back to Unity desktop or whatever.
I have taken the largest chill pill I could find and have reinstalled nutty into a spare partition with a view to taking a more forgiving approach... i'll mostly stand by the rants for the time being... Has anyone found a simple (or complex for that matter - I just want it gone!) way to disable the randomly activated lefthand vertical taskbar in unity? It really is an unnecessary irritation when I can put my essential apps down the bottom where they belong with docky (thus reducing mouse mileage on my widescreen) and have everything else a WinKey+App away.Interesting that typing "Configuration" into the search box returns 0 results on a default natty install **** Additional ****Tweaking the Unity Plugin through Advanced Compiz Manager (and gconf-editor) leads me believe that I am after a "feature" that is not available:in gconf-editor:/apps/compiz-1/plugins/unityshell/screen0/options/launcher_hide_modeis the key I would like to have an additional option of "Always" added the currently available options being "0 = Never, 1 = Autohide, 2 = Dodge Windows, 3 = Dodge Active Window"
From what I gather, there's no way to remove the Trash icon from the Unity launcher, or to hide it; is this true? I noticed that if I delete ~/.local/share/Trash, the file re-appears if I click on the Trash icon in the launcher.
Is there a way I can remove the backing to the Unity launcher icons? I want to make it so that I can make them look like iOS app icons, and the Unity dock just resizes the icon and adds a background to it.
how can i remove 'applications' and 'files and folders' launchers from unity in Ubuntu 11.04? Because applications and files and folders are already accessible from typing in the search box which gets opened clicking the top most left button.
