I'm using the Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Remix and therefore I have the built-in netbook interface: (pictured)
תצלום מסך-1.jpgIs there any way to remove this and get the standard desktop? because in this one I don't really have a desktop and can't create Shortcuts to specific files and folders.
For the past 2hrs I have been struggling to make KDE launch plasma-dekstop instead of plasma-netbook, but all in vain.I removed, then purged plasma-netbook and plasma-netbook-default-settings packages but after logging out and re-logging in the Netbook UI was back! After restarting the system now I can't even seem to get the KDM. I am greeted with a black screen.--- I restarted the system again and the nasty little bugger is back again! This is so frustrating. How do I get plasma-desktop to load instead?---- Great now I can see that plasma-desktop and plasma-netbook both are running simultaneously! netbook on top of desktop. So my final Q is how do I stop plasma-netbook from loading?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI burned a copy of the netbook 10.10 edition to a CD and tried to run it on my Acer Extensa 14" laptop to see the new interface. After loading files and about to load the interface nothing happened. I was left with the background and nothing else. What could be the problem? Can't you run it live from a CD as well as USB stick?

I absolutely loved the previous interface, and was quite shocked and saddened to see it disappear. But I'd like to keep all the other new software that comes with 10.10. So my question is, can I install the old 10.04 beautiful interface to run on the 10.10 edition? Re-installation is a MS solution, that turned me on to linux in the first place!

I found it quite useful from USB and eventually installed it on my Gateway netbook, that's where my nightmare started. At installation option gave me to ubuntu side by side with my Windows Vista on the netbook. It used part of hard drive space to create a separate partition for ubuntu. Intallation is OK but display is very bad particular moving the mouse around Firefox. Screen turned white back ground right with messy character font. It tried move around and have to restart ubuntu to get out.
I thought it might be something display drive not setup but found no option to make change from within Ubuntu. I had frustrated to search for fixing option and decide to "remove" ubuntu from the netbook. The worst, there is no option whatsoever on how to remove it. I search this forum and script to delete the partition from terminal. When it restart, the MBR or Grun loaded with errors incorrect file system. That mean the MBR not load and it is a netbook. It does not come with Vista CD for me to fix MBR nor resize the partition. I had to re-install ubuntu again back to square one to use it size by size with Windows.
Any one have a clean and details steps on how to remove ubuntu, resize partition and able to bring the netbook back to Windows only?
i am using openvpn on my laptop. I had to give the laptop for repair so i swapped the hdd in another laptop.
Now i have a tun0 relict in my system, so openvpn creates a tun1 interface and messes up all the routes.
So i am wondering how can i delete the tun0 interface from my ubuntu?
i made some desktops, some as folders, a new search page... now i cannot remove them. i am not give the option to remove any of them.
also if i try to change the page type, a NEW page is created instead of a change occuring to existing page.

Reasons to get rid of:
1. Annoying on my netbook
2. Cant do my video editing with it (the way Iwant to do it)

My Linux machine's all Ethernet ports are connected to Cisco 2960SCG switch. Linux machine is having two Ethernet cards. First one is using "e1000" Ethernet driver and the second one is with "nxge" Ethernet driver.
Problem is; I am successful while trying to delete VLAN interfaces over motherboard PCI Ethernet card, but if i try the same on other PCI card the following messages are coming,and soon system getting hanged.

I'm trying to turn an old Acer Aspire One with a tiny 8GB solid-state drive into a lean web server, so I'd like to remove as many packages as possible to free up space. It will be running a standard LAMP install and nothing else. Right now it has Ubuntu Netbook installed, so I need to know everything I can delete and still have it boot and run mysql, apache, etc.

The reoccurring problem that I am encountering is that when I boot from the USB-drive and begin to install everything seems to be working, and then it is stuck at the menu where it asks who are you?; and of course i have filled in everything asked and at the bottom where you can look at what its doing in the terminal/detail section all it says is ready when you are, and the forward tap is unselectable.
Why i cant change from 800x480 to 1024x600, that this model of EEE pc doesnt support anything higher than 800x480 at the 10:1 ratio...
Firstly my question is, is it ACTUALLY possible to 'overclock' this type of netbook to run a higher res?
Im running ubtuntu netbook remix 10.04 and am new to linux (again, so sorry) so be nice, and ive tried getting my head around this 'sudo' stuff, and the xorg.conf file (which is nowhere to be found) and ive even tried a program calld astray but im pretty sure ive exhausted my patience as trying to self-teach . . .
And ive also tried to much around with xrandr or whatever that command was.. but i cant really get my head around it, and it kept telling me the resolution didnt exist ect...

I installed Ubuntu Netbook 10.04 and immediately noticed the keyboard of my eeepc 1000HE was abnormally warm. Since I dual boot XP I booted to XP and found the fan running faster to compensate for the previous heat. This did not happen on Ubuntu-the fan just was barely running. I had to place the side of the netbook in order to feel the fan running. I issued "sensors" in terminal and it showed 67 degrees C for the cpu temp. Is the latest Ubuntu such a resource hug that it heats up the CPU?

When I do...# iptables -L...I see rules in my INPUT and OUTPUT chains that look scary:ACCEPT all -- anywhere anywhere...but these rules only apply to the loopback interface. I tested it and the server cannot be reached on open ports from the outside world. How can I make iptables show the interfaces that the rules apply to?Otherwise, every time I do iptables -L it will scare the crap out of me.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIm a new linux user and so far im loving it, problem is i just tried installing Ubuntu 10.04 netbook remix onto my Compaq mini 311 (via usb) and at first i couldnt even install from the flash stick...finally managed to by formatting the flash with an HP tool and then creating the bootable Live OS with "Linux Live USB creator 2.6."
I selected to use the whole Hard disk to install (the hard disk was empty anyway as i recently formated the drive which had windows 7 on it)
The the installation completed successfully but the problem is that after rebooting the OS wouldnt boot, leaving me with a flashing cursor or _ on the top left of the screen...
I have tried everything i could think of, using different Usb creators, formatting the hard drive before re-installing but for some reason im still left with the same blinking cursor after every install.
I have just installed the regular version of ubuntu 9.04 which works perfectly after installing but id much rather use the netbook version of 10.04
(I assume the issue has something to do with the bootloader but im completely new to the topic so cant really troubleshoot)
This has been bothering me for years now...when I go to remove a thumb drive from my computer, I have two options when I right click the device eject and safely remove. What on earth is the difference supposed to be?
