I've mounted Ubuntu 10.04 ISO using Daemon Tools and Virtual CloneDrive, but I end with thisI've disabled my DVD drive in device manager, but I still get it no matter how many times I try.

I downloaded the latest version of wubi and when I click to run i get the error "pyrun.exe - No Disk. There is no disk in the drive. insert a disk into drive DeviceHarddisk2DR2".

For those that use Virtualbox on their slackware host and have a windows (xp) guest running. I have tried various settings for sound (Alsa, PulseAudio), the AC97 drivers are installed in the Windows xp guest os, but there is no sound and there is an unknown audio device (in the windows device manager). If I remove the AC97 drivers and use the soundblaster16 drivers in the Vbox settings there is no unknown sound device, but there's still no sound. why I can't get sound working?

After I upgraded to ubuntu 10.04 my internet connection was working fine( both wired and wireless) and now all of a sudden knetworkmanager has disabled itself so I cannot get online at all. When I leave the mouse to hover over the icon it says unmanaged. Does anyone know what could have caused this and if theres a fix?

What happened:- I run out of battery (laptop)- I believe Kubuntu tried to suspend to disk, but that failed, the system froze- after reboot the system tray applet just told "network manager disabled" How do I fix this ??.. I tried but after entering the second line of code it says no such file/directory exist...

I've tried to configure :
- a wired network
- a wireless network
- a mobile broadband network as both "system connection" and "automatic connection".
I need to have a laptop that will try to connect as sson as I plug the ethernet cable in or as soon as it senses a certain SSID or as soon as there's a mobile broadband device plugged into a USB port. Non-system connections are working but I am not willing the actual user (non-admin) to read the WPA2 key or the SIM PIN. But the check box for the system connection is disabled. And running "sudo kcmshell4 --icon networkmanager kcm_networkmanagement kcm_networkmanagement_tray" doesn't result in a system connection.

I've installed ubuntu 10.04 on a hp mini 110. I've used netbook remix on this same computer and had no problems with a wireless connection. In this case, network manager shows wireless disabled. I have installed the Broadcom B43 Wireless drive from Adminstration->Hardware drivers. No help! ifconfig does not
show eth1 and lspci tells me that the Broadcom BCM4312 Network controller is present.

After returning from suspend to disk, RF devices (wlan and bluetooth) are disabled. Running lspci indicates that no wireless network device is available, and no drivers are loaded. Furthermore, the LED on the front of the laptop remains off - this is always on when RF devices are available. There is an Fn-F1 function key to toggle wireless, but this does not function to either enable or disable.
Rebooting the system does not re-enable the RF devices, and there is no option in the BIOS. The only workaround I have at present is to boot into windows vista and use the Fn-F1 function key. This pops up a small hotkey utility with the option to disable/enable the wi-fi and bluetooth (independently). Upon confirming the dialog, the RF device light immediately illuminates. Rebooting into fedora and wireless devices are working once again.
I am running kernel 2.6.31.12-174.2.3.fc12.x86_64, with the latest compat-wireless drivers. I can provide much more debug information (dmidecode, acpidump, boot logs, lspci etc...), I am just unable to determine what is relevant

I had installed Fedora 12. I am using 4 LAN Cards. All these cards were configured using network manager, but i am not able to acivate /deactivate these cards using acivate /deactivate buttons since they got disabled. I could activate the cards by running /etc/init.d/restart network. Anyone knows why the acivate /deactivate buttons in network manager are disabled .

I did a fresh install of OpenSuSE 11.3 KDE 64-bit on my new laptop. Worked like a charm. But I brought it with me to work without connecting it to a wi-fi and now the network manager doesn't want to start when I'm back in range of my home connection. Also, whenever I try to launch KNetworkManager, it won't load up a window and I still can't connect. This is even disabling the Ethernet port also.

I installed ZTE MF 626 modem in my F10 with kernel 2.6.27.12-170, i run usb_modeswitch and so far things happened normally. Watching through /var/log/messages it says that F10 detects two port device for this modem: ttyUSB1 and ttyUSB2, and in the sequence it disable port ttyUSB1 BUT Network Manager still set this port.I mean, when i connect via wvdial appointing to ttyUSB2 i get connection, but Network Manager fails to do it appointing to ttyUSB1. How to change device port in Network Manager?

Running Fedora 13, I cannot add my HP J4680 through the HP Device Manager. I get an error message saying that the print queue cannot be started and it asks me to restart CUPS. I tried restarting CUPS and adding the device. It did not work. The printer is on my home network wirelessly. I can add it through the CUPS web interface and print, but then I cannot access the scanner. I tried adding the device after it was already added through CUPS, but that did not work. I would like to use the scanner; I don't really care about the fax.

one of my drive(ntfs) is used to share files in windows 7 and ubuntu. But after enabling 'bit locker' feature in that drive from W7....the drive became encrypted and cannot be accessed from ubuntu.

I have been running FC8 on this IBM T23 with a D-Link wireless adapter. Using MadWifi this has worked fine with Network Manager disabled. But now I have nuked that installation and replaced it with FC10. Network Manager is nice, and I would like to use it. And it kind-of works. Network Manager recognizes my router and all my neighbor's routers, but I can't connect.

I've just switched from xub to lub, and I must say it's a lot lot faster. There's just one really annoying problem (I have no idea if this is in any way related to LXDE or if it's just due to 10.04): Network Manager only starts about a minute after the rest of the desktop. So my system boots up, I log in, see the applet, but it is greyed out (it tells me "Network Manager is disabled" or something similar). After a minute (approx), it suddenly comes to life and connects me. Now, I think this only happens when I have:
A) set the wireless connection to "all users"
B) given an empty password for the keyring
But when I cancel either of the two above, it doesn't stop it from happening. I've tried updating etc.. to no avail. I've also tried wicd, but for some reason installing wicd from synaptic doesn't remove Network Manager? Anyway, has anyone seen behaviour like this? Any suggestions for first steps to take to see where it's blocking?

I've always run as root on Slackware, but having done away with Ubuntu for now, all of my machines including the family desktop are running Slackware. There have been several ups and downs and the last one that I know of (for now) is the HP Device Manager. It doesn't run as root so I've never noticed that it drastically slows down printing via a shared printer. Disabled the system just sends it's requests to the samba/cups server and starts printing instantly. The HP Device Manager seems to go through an intialization step each time that takes several seconds before I can even hit the "print" button.

After the use of pppoeconf, the network manager does not recognise neither the wired nor the wireless connection anymore. (It nicely did it before that) I tried to replace the etc/network manager folder with that of a different machine. Still the same. What else can I do to reset Network Manager ?

I just did a clean install of 11.04. Now when I try to boot the machine I get the following error: Quote:
error: no such device
error: no such disk
error: you need to load the kernel first
Then I am taken to the Grub menu. Selecting anything from the Grub menu brings this error back up. So now I'm stuck with a computer that won't work.?

Sometimes when I restart, my NTFS drives will mount in incorrect directories. It seems to only happen when I plug in USB devices such as flash drives, and keep them in when I boot. I have the fstab file configured correctly, but it still resorts to some odd default mounting points. Edit suposedly the device name changes whenever I boot with a flash drive plugged in. Is there anyway to mount a disk to a dir without pointing to its changing device name.

Is there any C function that will translate UUIDs into device names? I have a little graphical mount tool that can read user-mountable device names from /etc/fstab and lets you cycle through the list and mount or unmount them. But it doesn't work with UUIDs, which are preferred these days. Is there any way around this?

I have a 4 * 1.5TB RAID5 disk array (software linux RAID, formatted with jfs) on my Fedora 12 system and want to expand it by adding another 1.5TB disk. I have added a drive to the system and conducted a simple performance check on it to make sure it was functioning properly:

The array is used as part of a mythtv system and has up to 6 simultaneous recordings running on it, so it needs to perform well.

I have a Corsair R60 ssd disk which is a disk with both sata and usb connectors. But the usb thing seems to be a bit non-standard, or maybe its just my fedora linux.When I insert the disk using a usb cabel to a running Fedora 14 linux system, a device called /dev/sg3 is added but that is all. No new /dev/sd* device is created so I can't mount the disk.
If I look at

So the disk is there. (The last entry) but my linux will for some reason not see it as a usb hard disk. When I insert other usb disks they work fine. It is only this specific disk which causes problems. I have tried on 3 different computers with the same result.
A hint to the problem may be that if I add the disk to a windows system(With usb) the disk is called "A fixed disk" and not a portable disk as expected. The disk works fine with linux If i connect it with the sata cabel, but I would really like to have it working with usb too. (To mount it on computers without sata).
Added:I did try to mount /dev/sg3 but mount say that its not a block device. (File say Its a character special device).

Final update:Corsair have said that the disk design is broken and there does not seem to be any way to make it work.

I got a nice Neximage webcam for my Nexstar Telescope for Xmas so I'm trying to get it working with kstars and INDI (Instrument Neutral Distributed Interface). I'm using opensuse 11.3 (tried on both 64 bit on PC and 32 bit on my laptop) and Gnome. I've installed libindi and kstars and as many dependencies as I could find but it seems that no matter what I do I can't get any telescope drivers to appear in the device manager.

I'm kind of new to programming in Linux & c/c++. I'm currently writing a FileManager using Ubuntu Linux(10.10) for Learning Purposes. I've got started on this project by creating a loopback device to be used as my virtual hard disk. After creating the loop back hard disk and mounting it has the following configuration.

My tech savvy friends built me a computer and put win7 64 bit and then installed ubuntu (upgraded to 10.10) and had grub so whenever i turned my computer on i could choose between linux and windows and everything was fine. The other day i couldn't boot into ubuntu so i went into my win7 partition and deleted ubuntu and all other partitions and/or extensions thinking that it would get rid of ubuntu. Now when i boot it doesnt recognize anything so i tried booting from my ubuntu cd (don't know if its 10.4 or version) and it will load and when i try to install it i get the grub recovery thing and then the initramfs thing and the error "initramfs Can not mount /dev/loop0 (/live/image/live/filesystem.squashfs)"
i don't need ubuntu but i do need windows as it has files and papers that i need this week.
