View 7 RepliesI installed ZTE MF 626 modem in my F10 with kernel 2.6.27.12-170, i run usb_modeswitch and so far things happened normally. Watching through /var/log/messages it says that F10 detects two port device for this modem: ttyUSB1 and ttyUSB2, and in the sequence it disable port ttyUSB1 BUT Network Manager still set this port.I mean, when i connect via wvdial appointing to ttyUSB2 i get connection, but Network Manager fails to do it appointing to ttyUSB1. How to change device port in Network Manager?

I was able to go to command line, and do an "ifup ifcfg-eth0" and DHCP got an address. Go into GNOME - System-Administration - Network , or system-config-network the "Activate/Deactivate" is greyed out. Also, GNOME - System-Administration - Network Device Control show NO device..

I want to write Bourne-shell script that will be to do finding and replacement in any web page code (.htm file) name of the tied folder in which have been saved pictures, .css, .js and other files. This folder create a web browser when we save web page completely and has so name as web page and has ending '_files'. I have many web pages where name of their folder are incorrect. Of course, my web browser shows these web pages without pictures. I can count amount of web pages in a folder (/path) needed for me.
1) find /path -type f -name "*.htm*" -print | grep -c .htm or find /path -type f -name *.htm | wc -l I can get list of web pages.
2) ls /path *.htm > out-list But I don't know how to assign the value from out-list (2) or result commands from pipeline (1) to a variable. Then I want to do next:
3)
var="1"
# where variable 'list' is an amount of web pages
while [ $var -le $list ]
[code]....
4)assign the 1st (then 2nd , etc. ) value from out-list (2) to variable 'webfile'
sed -n $var,+0p out-spisok
5)find the 1st string value '_files' in the 'webfile' grep -m1 _files $webfile
6)For example, 'abracadabra_files' is an incorrect folder in the 'webfile' I must to know start and end position 'abracadabra' without ending '_files', "cut" name of the incorrect folder and assign it to the variable 'finder' finder = 'abracadabra' BTW, name of a folder before '_files' is between '="' and '_files' in any web page code.
7)foldernew = $webfile (without '.htm')' foldernew' is equal with name of the tied folder without ending '_files' in the folder '/path'
8)find and replace in the 'webfile' and save result in the 'webfile-out'sed s/$finder/$foldernew/g $webfile > $webfile-out
Wondering if anyone knows of a "Timesnapper" alternative. Love this program for windows, having a hard time finding a replacement.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Nautilus in standard Ubuntu 10.10, but it lacks a feature that is very important for my usage. If there is a modification for Nautilus, that would be best, if there is another Linux file manager that provides the feature,When I save a file in a directory by starting to type what I want to name the file in the Windows file manager, at least from XP to current, then a list pops up below the typing line with a list of the files that match that string of characters. I don't know if or how Nautilus can be made to do this.
Why important: I use a Firefox add-on to download songs from some internet radio websites. Because I download so many, I follow the naming convention ARTIST- ALBUM- SONG. Because I've already got over 4000 songs so downloaded, I usually don't know if, when I hear a song, whether I've already downloaded it or not. By having the feature, I just start typing to name the file, and I quickly discover if I already have the song so I can skip the song until I get to one I have not downloaded.
Running Fedora 13, I cannot add my HP J4680 through the HP Device Manager. I get an error message saying that the print queue cannot be started and it asks me to restart CUPS. I tried restarting CUPS and adding the device. It did not work. The printer is on my home network wirelessly. I can add it through the CUPS web interface and print, but then I cannot access the scanner. I tried adding the device after it was already added through CUPS, but that did not work. I would like to use the scanner; I don't really care about the fax.

I have tried various settings for sound (Alsa, PulseAudio), the AC97 drivers are installed in the Windows xp guest os, but there is no sound and there is an unknown audio device (in the windows device manager). If I remove the AC97 drivers and use the soundblaster16 drivers in the Vbox settings there is no unknown sound device, but there's still no sound. why I can't get sound working?

Not only did it not fix it, but now I cannot connect to any network, wired or wireless. I tried to open the default network manager and it said "Network management disabled". How do I re-enable it?I also have set YAST settings back to their originals with no luck.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI use chrony on my laptop thinking it would be better for it than ntp because I'm frequently connecting and disconnecting from wireless cafe access points and going in and out of suspend mode. But I've also noticed that if chrony is started before the access point is connected it never syncs to the time servers. I have to manually restart it via the service command after I connect. This doesn't seem right to me, if chrony fails to find a network at start time, doesn't it periodically try again ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm developing a little script that automatically detects the insertion of a usb device and tries to open the directory of this device in nautilus. I am using Python
So far I was able to sample and compare the changes that occur in the output of 'lsusb' command and get information pertaining to the addition and removal of usb devices.
Now I want to know if we can use that information (or some other info present in the usb sybsyste --/sys/bus/usb folder) to determine exactly where this device has been mounted.
I know you might recommend using 'mount' as a quick way to do the same. I have already done that, but the limitation is that mount only gives u the mountpoint information. How does one (using a program/logic) determine which mount point corresponds to which device.
If I were to plug in two devices together, and both were automatically mounted, how will I be able to tell which mountpoint corresponded to which device? the output of lsusb provides no information whatsoever about where the device is mounted. So its kind of a deadlock
from lsusb ive been able to gather : Device name, serial and bus number and device number
Another thing i've noticed is the 'autoplay'. Whenever I insert a my music player into my computer, it gets mounted automatically and I'm presented with options about simply opening the file or playing it with rhythmbox... now if all that was being done was polling the output of mount, they would not be able to know that the device inserted was a music player (that info u can get from the /sys/bus/usb folder only using the device class and subclass info). So obviously the two are linked somewhere...
Does anybody want to recommend a CLI password manager? All the ones I've found are in questionable maintenance or don't have a track record for me to look at.

I've looked in the Applications > System, searched for it and tried running it with the command line (kdesu adept). I've looked briefly online didn't see anything that jumped out as the right thing to download. Should it already be installed or where can I find it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy wife is purchasing a netbook with no internal CD/DVD writing device, so we plan to purchase an external CD/DVD USB-2.0 read/write device. Our local PC shop has the following 3 external USB-2.0 DVD read/write devices:
(a) Samsung DVD-Burner SE-S084F/RSBS [not listed on Samsung site - too old ? ]
(b) LG DVD-Burner GE24NU21 USB2.0 [not listed on LG site - too old ? ]
(c) Super-Multi Portable DVD Rewrite (GP10 Lite USB2.0 Slimline) GP10NB20 (mentions Mac OS/X support, which is encouraging)
None of those are listed in the openSUSE HCL. Has anyone successfully used any of these with GNU/Linux (my google surfing on this revealed no GNU/Linux complaint nor any success stories) ? Or is there another such external USB-2.0 read/write DVD burner device that is recommended ?

View 2 Replies View RelatedOne thing I was disappointed with Fedora 12 was the CD/DVD burning application Brasero. I used this application (version 2.6) on Fedora 11 and every time I created a video DVD, i would get an error 'You do not have the required permissions to use this drive'. Even though I was getting this message, it will burn the DVD successfully and I was able to watch the DVD on TV. But getting this error was annoying. I wrote to the developer Luis Medinas who didn't bother to reply. I posted question in Fedora forums and got no answers.
I came across a note on the internet that they have fixed this bug in version 2.8 that came with Fedora 12, so I installed a fresh copy of Fedora 12. But to my surprise this time Brasero came up with a different error. This time I wrote to another developer Philippe Rouquier and I haven't heard from him either. In next version of Fedora I would be very happy to see a "stable" CD/DVD burning application that won't throw errors. It is very annoying and a big turn off as a user. The only time I use Windows is to author DVD's TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 simply because in Linux there is no program that is sophisticated and stable enough.
