Ubuntu :: Change Certain Keyboard Functions?
Feb 22, 2010
I have an Msi Wind u100+. Between the right hand Alt Gr and CTRL keys there is a key that looks like a menu. It seems to have the same function as a right mouse click. I want to know how to change this specific keys' function, such as use it to launch a terminal or another Super key. Ive tried Keyboard Shortcuts but its main right click function prevails. Also, searchng the forums and google only brings up how to change the entire keyboard layout to DVORAK or something and that's not what I want to do.

Can anyone tell me what I can do to fix this as wireless is obviously vital in a laptop. BTW the wireless waqs working fine while the machine had Vista on it.

I have gotten my project ubuntu server 10.04 up and running and logged in remotely with a terminal emulator program called AccuTerm that I use from work. It has multiple control files and want to know which file works best with ubuntu server. My reason for asking is some of the manual pages do not display correctly and keyboard functions seem to function incorrectly via VT100 and I have eighteen to choose from?

I was trying to write a script to change the signature of the all the methods in a set of scripts.. here is a sample of the same :
old signature :
methodname()
{
method-body
}
New signature:
function methodname
{
method-body
}
That is i need to insert "function" keyword in front of the methodname and remove the () after the methodname.

None of my daemon scripts work now, and the startup process displayed errors. Should I reinstall the OS and start from scratch, or is there a way to recover these files? Is there a way to rebuild the files I deleted?

In testing that all my bits of hardware work I have come to my 3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator. The hardware is virtually new and works absolutely fine in XP (that is what I am trying to escape from).
When the spacenavigator is plugged in it works absolutely fine so long as I move the thing with a soft feather. It is so sensitive that it is un-useable.My problem is that although the system has recognised it and has it in the hardware scan in YaST but nowhere can I find any way to change the sensitivity settings and button functions.

I'd like to change around my keyboard layout a bit and can't figure out how. I'd really like to swap f1 and f7, f11 and f2, right alt and escape, backspace and caps lock, and a few of the letter keys. Is there any easy way to do this? (It's a confusing story about why I want to swap the f keys) Gnome, if it matters.

My R key isn't working anymore. I use Karmic Koala.
The keyboard preferences is set up for different languages, but that's not my problem.
I'd like to make it so when I type the key to the left of 1 (the one that types out ` and ~) that it types R.

I'm rly poundering on the following problem. For our school assignment we need to make a liveCD (just a part of the assignment). I've stripped down a default ubuntu 9.10 . But I need to default keyboard layout to be azerty (belgium). When I run the liveCD in virtualbox and do dpkg -reconfigure console-setup it's all good.
But when I do it in chroot to change the liveCD, it gives an OK etc but when I pack it into an ISO again and run it ... Again US keyboard layout. Even on startup when I change the keymap it doesn't change to azerty... I rly don't know what to try now..

This was a fresh install of 10.04. I set the keyboard for UK Intl for use with a cordless keyboard. The keyboard turns out to be incompatible with 10.04, because it does not type the ' and " signs correctly. I tried another cordless keyboard with the same result. I gave up and attached a plug in usb keyboard which has a USA layout. I added USA International layout and set to apply system wide.
The problem is that whenever the computer is shut down and restarted it reverts to the UK setting, and even though I'm using a USA keyboard it still does not type the ' and " signs correctly. Can I fix this without doing a full re-install?

how to change my input language (the way typing in accents affects the output character).
Currently I am on a Brazilian abnt keyboard and an English system (which is what I want), but I am unable to output accented characters - which I sometimes want, when I am not programming. I need something to switch around, but cannot find where to configure additional languages (not keyboards) neither where to switch.
I am on 10.04 with a gnome desktop.

I'm doing thesis about Open source CMS -programs and I'm using Ubuntu server 10.04.1 for that.
I have used same server edition at school but I have now big problem with changing the keyboard language. Because VMware used the easy install I couldn't change the language during the installation. I have used command sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup, but I can't select the right language there.
So is there any other way to change the keyboard language to Finnish?

How do I change the default size of the on-screen keyboard on ubuntu netbook remix.I have a Dell Inspiron Duo, it functions as a Tablet Hybrid in which its screen can flip out to look and act as a function as a Tablet. However when I bring up the on-screen keyboard to use for typing on tablet mode, it is often too small for finger input (computer does not use a stylus) Resizing will be too difficult. So I need to know how to increase the default size of the on-screen keyboard when it comes up.

I have Ubuntu 10.04 (Netbook Remix) installed on Asus EeePC 1000. Sometimes I use Apple Wired Aluminum keyboard for comfortable typing. There is no problem for me with netbook's keyboard, but i want to change the keys for the Apple one. For example: make F1-F12 keys really work like F-keys, not control keys; make Fn key to work like Insert key, and swap Cmd/Alt keys.
So, the main question - is it possible to change the layout of apple keyboard without changing the behavior of netbook keyboard? If not, then maybe there are some "switchers" that can constantly change mappings from one to another and back? And, at last, if there is no such tools, then what is the easiest way to do it manually?

At first, I've installed the desktop version (Gnome desktop environment) with a German keyboard (u know, "y" and "z" is swapped, etc...) and everything turned out to be fine.
The problem comes when I want to use a normal en-US layout keyboard to replace the German keyboard.
I simply did: System Settings --> Hardware --> Keyboard and in the "Layouts" page I "Remove" the German layout and "Add" the USA layout. I even clicked the "Apply System-Wide..." button...
Things work out fine for the current session.
But each time after a restart/log out the default layout will go back to German although the USA layout still exists in the "Layouts" page. And also in the console I can tell the layout is still German.

I use Puppy Linux 5.1.1. My keyboard layout is US but I want it to be UK (GB). I have used the mouse/keyboard wizard (Choose keyboard layout for your country) in Setup and made all the right choices but nothing changes. In the 'Advanced Xorg keyboard configuration', when I choose 'layouts', I am told 'Your xorg.config file does not contain any Xkb layout options'.
What else can I do?
