Ubuntu :: Program Only Display Approximately 25% Of A Webpage?
Apr 20, 2010
I am a long time Windows user. This is my first venture into the Linux world. I am only using a 15" moniter, but that does not seem to be the problem. It seems to be working OK on gmail. But with Hotmail orYahoo it doesn't seem to work at all. What can I do?
I'm trying to write a program which would get information from a webpage and display the information on my desktop sort of like a widget. I kind of remember there being something like this already made, but for the life of me I can't remember what it's calledDoes anyone know?
I am trying to find a program similar to microsoft's front page (wysiswyg) web-page development. then I will no longer have need of Mr Gates operating system.
I'm having here at home one quite addicted Farmville & similar game player which I would like to somewhat control in at least late night/early morning hours, Was browsing a while around for a program which could be used as a webpage blocker for several hours (predefined time), but all I came up was either scripts which I don't understand (I myself can be counted as a newbie in Linux stuff) and don't want to risk blindly or just user account time manager (timekpr).
I found a great solution in my case for MacOS users called SelfControl, but as you can guess ... there's no Linux native client for that. So, my question is - is there any easy and understandable way to block specific webpages for a predefined time period (let's say, every morning from 03:00CET - 08:00CET)?
OS: Ubuntu 9.10 Computer knowledge of the farmer: Getting on Farmville and/or playing Gnome's Mahjongg is pretty much all.
I am using Squid Server from last 5years. There is a site "http://www.firstflight.net", which was accessible before few days but now I am unable to access this site. If I use IE8 then getting below error:
"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
Or using Google chrome getting error:
"This webpage is not available The webpage at http://www.firstflight.net/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address. Error 330 (net::ERR_CONTENT_DECODING_FAILED): Unknown error."
I've been trying to install OpenSuse 11.0 on my ten-year-old Gateway desktop. It has been showing this screen for approximately thirty minutes. In case you can't read it, it says 'Decompressing Linux... done. Booting the Kernel.' I booted from the CD, and the OpenSuse screen came up, and I selected 'Installation' from the menu. And here we are.
how to program in C or C++, but I'm pretty decent with python ( I've only used this on Windows ) and I was wondering if there was a way I can display my notifications like that as well. If you could just tell me what causes these messages to display like this I'm sure I could do some investigating of my own.
I installed the latest version of Thunderbird by downloading the tarball and copying the contents to the required folder and just point launchers to the Thunderbird file. However I cannot get GNOME Do to run Thunderbird. When I type run in Gnome Do, I go through the entire list without having Thunderbird as an option. The only plugin I can find is one that allows you to copy Thunderbird contacts to the clipboard. I have set Thunderbird to be my default mail client, so when I type an email address I can choose to compose a mail in GNOME Do, but just opening up Thunderbird to check mail is not possible.
I was thinking to do my music producing completely on linux and found a plethora of good tools for it. The thing is I have two monitors and instead of launching manually every little app each time I feel creative, I want to make a script that launches all my favorite apps.
So long I have written this little bash script:
Code:
#!/bin/bash #Start my audio programs for music production (qjackctl --start)& (hydrogen --nosplash)& sleep 1 ardour2
So what it does is that it starts the jack server, then hydrogen and lastly ardour2. The thing is that I want hydrogen to start in the second monitor but don't know how. I have devilspie but I didn't have any luck on finding some command to choose display. I am aware of the --display flag that some programs have like firefox but hydrogen doesn't have it. Btw I use a different X server on each screen. is there a universal way to launch ANY kind of program on a specific display?
Usually I open 5 terminals. And since each of those 5 terminals prints it's tile as: "username@username-laptop: ~" It becomes very hard to see what is what. So, I would like my terminal to always change it's title automatically to the program that I am currently using. So, if I type "irssi", the title of my gnome-terminal-window, should change to: "irssi" for example.
Is it possible for me to SSH to another server in Linux (Ubuntu), run a program there but display it locally? And is it possible for me to SSH to another server in my terminal, and configure it so that all graphical programs (Firefox, Emacs) run in that SSH session will be displayed locally?
I am connecting to remote Linux PCs via ssh, to update software and do other tasks. I want to send a notification to the remote PCs screen (eg, "Do not run program X, it is being updated now"), so the users do know what is happening.
Is there a reverse way for ssh -X host so I can connect to a remote Linux machine and run notify-send and it appears on the other display?
If I do setenv DISPLAY other_machine:0 and launch a gui application I can send this application to my other_machine Is there any mean (utility or whatever) to send an OPEN application to another machine (by its pid eventually) So if I have an nedit open, and its pid is 13245, I could do something like send_to_display pid=13245 machine=other_machine:0
Is there a Linux program I can use to display random words from a list? By entering words in a spreadsheet and then sorting the list in alphabetical order, I made a list of new vocabulary words for myself to memorize, and wondered whether I could make random words from the list display on the screen daily. I know I could write a program to do that if I knew programming, but I don't.
I have just started to learn abit about websites so I thought I would learn from internet, I have followed w3schools.com I have done what they said infact I copied and pasted in to ooo saved as index.html my problem is how do i view it, I opened firefox opened index file but allit shows is what I pasted not showing up as web page any help pointing me in right direction.
I inadvertently blocked a web page and get the following message when I try to open it using Firefox.
"The page isn't redirecting properly Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete. * This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies."
I can change users and access the web page or change computers. No other websites were affected. Is there a way in Ubuntu or Gnome to unblock a website to accept cookies?
I would like to know if there's a way of using FileZilla or another FTP client without having a web page. My intention is to have my files on a server and download them form time to time from different computers using FileZilla's portable version. It would also serve as a Back-up copy of 'em. If there's no way of doing that, I can get a subdomain from, that is free and without a file limit?
if it was possible to get ubuntu to automatically open Firefox to a particular webpage at a specific time monday through friday. The webpage in which i am referring to is not my homepage. in mind that I am completely unfamiliar with scripting
I'd like to retrieve information from a website. It's a dictionary type of website, each page of the dictionary has a URL, i would like to get the content of each page automatically in RTF.
It takes a long time for firefox to actually find every website I go to. It sticks on looking for [URL] and then eventually finds it. It isn't the connection because I tested it and its fine. I am using Ubuntu 10.04 and firefox 3.6.3
