im currently using ubuntu 9.10 in 30gb partition, when i open google chrome, netbeans, pidgin messenger and mysql it causes pc o freeze, which i has to shut down pc by cutting off electricity.
is that due to virtual memory?
in 11.04 when you open a program it covers the desktop when you open the next program it covers the first program , How do you switch from the first program to the second one and vice versa.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWe are having a cluster with couple of disk servers, compute nodes and a head node. Disk server is nfs mounted on all the compute and head nodes.
The problem is that if any of the disk servers hangs, it freezes rest of the cluster too which is dangerous. Ideally, cluster should not care about the hanged server and run without any problem except files from that server is not visible.
Is there any way I could avoid the problem of freezing cluster because of one hanged server?
This error message comes out saying, " No application suitable for automatic installation is available for handling this kind of file." I am trying to install a wireless antenna for my other computer. Does anyone know what I should do?

I have this wma file that I want to play and I looked around and found alot of ways to make this happen. However, none has work for me. But first let me explain my problem. I have these wma files that just wont work but they worked once before. Now when I try to open the files all I get is some message that the file can not be opened. I have done many efforts to make it work including things like medibuntu. BTW, there was this once moment that when I tried to open the file it PLAYED! but then after it did not open.

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 and I installed Compiz Fusion but now the only thing I can open that has a title bar that I can move around is Google Chrome, everything else I open, even firefox, has no title bar and I cant move the boxes around the screen.

Why would this be the case??? How do I fix it? it's really inconvenient to have to open up my terminal and unzip everything that I want uncompressed, when I used to be able to just right click it and say "extract here".

Sometimes i have webpages opened that i can't close and the upgrade popup appears.
This time firefox is one of the software to upgrade, should i close the browser or it isn't mandatory ?
This is a new issue since 10.04 (9.10 did it right). I'm on 10.10 netbook right now. What I would like to figure out is how to tell the system to go into suspend when idle even though the lid is open. I don't know if this problem is hardware specific or just a config file edit. Just to get it out of the way, it does suspend correctly when the lid is closed - and I can tell it to suspend when the lid is open, but what I need is for it to suspend when I fall asleep working or forget I left it open without overheating / running out of battery and losing my work. I'm pretty good at doing things on linux, despite the fact that I'm running the netbook remix, so don't be afraid to tell me to open a file in the terminal or whatever.

When I play any video in VLC or any other player my video is on top of everything.
For example, if I open a video and play it - everything looks ok. But, if I open another window "above" VLC, video suddenly appears at top and I can't see window opened in front of VLC.

-The Mkv video file cannot be opened by the Mplayer due to something that I don't know. I try to open it via the gnome-terminal and end up with something like this:
The, I try to play it with VLC media player. Everthing seems fine but after few minutes, I can see the lagging of the video and distractions on the screen.
Then, I've open my Windows 7 and play the mkv files with the KMplayer, everything is fine. No lagging, no distractions.
I've already updated the ubuntu-restricted-extras. I've already installed the libxine1-ffmpeg and nothings good appeared.
I've already installed the mkvtoolnix-gui (which is i don't know what is it) but similar prob appear.
how did play mkv files? With no lags or disctractions?
It was just yesterday when I was using the Ubuntu Software Center, and it worked great. Today, when I open it, it closes right down within a second. If it helps, I'm using Ubuntu 10.04. I restarted Ubuntu, the problem still happens, anyone know what could be causing this?

When I open Chrome I receive the error: Quote:Your profile could not be opened correctly.I have found solutions that work, but they delete all my profile information. This is will not work for me because I want to keep the profile data. I narrowed it down and the problem with with the Web Data file which is a SQLite database. From my research it sounds like the Web Data file gets locked. How can I unlock this file? The command below is suppose to unlock the DB, but I have not had any success with it.
