Yesterday I updated some packages with the Update manager. A new version of evince was updated, too. However, no pdf, ps files can be opened by it after that.Running from the command line, get error like:"evince: symbol lookup error: evince: undefined symbol: ev_get_locale_dir"I just wonder how to solve this. I've been having a problem with printing a particular pdf file from Evince. The pdf is opened and displayed correctly but when I want to print all I get is sheets with only punctuation marks on them. These punctuation marks correctly correspond to what is in the document but all the text in between them is not printed.
View 8 Replies View Related1. Evince is somehow screwing up font creation when displaying dvi files. I can preview the dvi file fine under xdvi. When I try with evince, I kicks off a slew of metafont font-creation runs, then shows me totally garbled pages -- the layout is correct, but none of the characters are right. This happens for documents that primarily use Times Roman fonts.
2. *Every* time evince comes up, it insists on starting in continuous / "fit page width" mode. I don't want either one. I want continuous-mode*off* and the window in the "best fit" view. So I have to click, drag, click, click, drag, release *every* time I pop up a file. It's very annoying. There doesn't appear to be any key in the gnome gconf config database I can set to affect these things. How do I fix this?...
I have installed some pdf readers on my notebook, and the one I most liked was evince. But there are two available evince packages: evince and evince-gtk. What is the difference between them? Does one of them have advantages as to the other?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSome PDF files have a functionality that text and amounts can be filled in some parts of the file, after which it can be printed (most of the times NOT saved). Our tax authorities have these files as well, you can download them, fill in text and amounts, it even counts it for you, and you can print and send.
Unfortunately, I can't use that functionality in Evince (running Squeeze). I tried this with Adobe (also in Squeeze) and it didn't work either. In Win it does work, but of course I would like Debian to be "allround" Can it be that some application must be installed to use this function?
Over the last few months there have been multiple updates and I am getting a list of things that no longer work or that cause my system to fail. I can no longer open a pdf in firefox. It says there is no application assigned to the task. I ran evince and tried to open a pdf file and received a "floating point" error message on the terminal screen I was working from.

My work requires me to have a lot of postscript files. Hence i have elaborate names for easy identification. For example --- AP-1_Jul-Ctrl-noEqSA_bg25C_precip,U250-150_xy.ps. I am unable to open them using evince. I get a blank evince screen with loading written on it. The same file named as 1.ps opens in a jiffy. As of now evince quickly opens pdf files with long names. But i would not like to convert ps to pdf.
Even kghostview does not open these long-named files.

I just did a fresh install of 11.04 after a failed attempt of updating to 11.10. it installed fine and i was able to update everything fine. But out of the blue the three mentioned above crash immediately when i click on them, any body know a fix....i really dont wana do another fresh install.

View 1 Replies View Relatedinstalled Adobe Reader as the root user. In KDE I can click the Adobe icon and it brings up he Adobe program. I can then do a search via the Adobe options for PDF files and display the PDF's. I can do this from just about any user.
However, what doesn't work is being able to try to open a PDF file and have the Adobe PDF reader display the file.
Is there any way I can associate Adobe or PDF files with Adobe so PDF file are opened with the Adobe reader.
I have just had a wee problem with the XFCE 4 Desktop on my Acer Aspire One with the Fedora 10 OS. Netbook worked OK this AM before work; shut down as usual. On returning from work, the Netbook seemed to boot as normal. But I only had one workspace instead of two (my usual), and when I tried to start Firefox, it was 2/3rds it's normal size and none of the usual '_ [] X' boxes in the the upper right hand corner! I tried booting into an earlier kernel version, but still the same. Had I accidentally altered the settings by any chance? Opened 'Fedora','Settings Manager', and clicked on 'Window manager'. But it just opened an error box, saying 'you do not appear to have a Window Manager'! Went (through google) to the XFCE webpage. The windows manager is called 'xfwm4'. Opened a terminal and tried 'top' - no xfwm4 process seemed to be running. So I quit out of 'top', typed 'xfwm4' and hit enter.

I removed all my sources.lists, I tried running apt-cache clean It didn't help. This is really serious. Not only am I unable to do anything with packages (update, remove, install), but the machine is really slow because of this.
I realise KPDF is quite old now but as this issue may recur when I move to a newer distro (well, newer than Hardy) with Okular I thought I'd better ask.I use Gnome, but prefer KPDF to evince when viewing PDF files. However, KPDF's "Open Recent" list behaves very oddly - there's no apparent way to clear it, and items which were on the list one day aren't on it another day (coinciding with old items reappearing on the list).
Is there any way to clear this list?Similarly, is there any way to clear the list of recently opened files in the "Location" drop-down box in File-Open? (which also seems to mysteriously lose list items inbetween reboots).

it's the installation media or the ISO is broken because i have reburned / redownloaded the fedora14 multiple times with the same result. I even tried burning the disc on a different computer just to make sure the burner is still working. This is the error i am getting when the "Starting installation Process" dialog displayed.
