I recently installed Ubuntu 11.04 but when I installed chromium and opened the application, it opened as usual but the icon did not appear in the dock. The only way I could switch to the chromium window would be to alt-tab.
View 6 RepliesI often use the option in Chromium to create 'application shortcuts'. These are instances of Chromium that make a website look more like an app by not including most of Chromium's toolbars. I use it for gmail and google docs and spreadsheets and calendar. In 11.04 I have set up Desktop launchers and copied them across to the Launcher (what an odd way to add something to the launcher, why no right-click 'add launcher' option?)
The problem is that the launcher thinks all these apps are chromium (which they are really, but I would like them to be seen as separate apps). If I minimize my gmail window, a little triangle appears next to the chromium icon, not the gmail icon. To get the window back, I have to click on the Chromium icon. Clicking on the gmail icon launches a new instance of it (also tied to the Chromium icon).
1. I didn't like the icon theme and changed it to Ubuntu Mono Light. But is there a way to get the Min/Max/Close buttons to how they are in Radiance when maximized, or is that dependant on something else?
2. Is there a way to disable the Unity dock, but not the Unity feature where the Min/Max/Close go into the command bar?
I recently got a new monitor and now my unity dock and parts of windows get cut off on the left side, is there a way to fix this
View 1 Replies View RelatedOK my problem unity 3d doesn't work on my system the icon's doesn't show on the dock on the left side of the screen thats the only problem.The top bar works and all the icon's work they just don't show a image of the program.Here is what i would like to do delete the side bar or stop it from loading and use a dock something like dockbarx or awn.I have seen a lot of websites of people using ubuntu classic like this but they don't look anything like unity and i like the look of unity.So is this possible and how would i do it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSometimes when adding an application link to the Unity dock it does not display an icon in the dock, just a blank space.
An example would be the image manipulation app 'Pinta'. Installing this from the Ubuntu Software Centre, finding it in the apps menu and dragging it to the Unity dock results in a blank space being put in the dock.
I am happy to report a bug but can anyone explain why this happens?
Temporary work around for anyone with this problem:
1. Create a launcher for the app on the desktop
2. Move the launcher to ~/.local/share/applications
3. Drag it to the dock from there
I used Google Chrome as my default browser on 10.10, and I liked seeing it as part of the Software Center this time around on Unity. (Except it's listed as Chromium; what's the difference!?!) Anyway, I'll get crashes with the browser pretty consistently. Has anyone else had problems with Chromium crashing on start up? (The problem may have arisen when I started syncing my bookmarks, as I do with all of my computers.)

With other applications, I can launch them, right-click the application icon in the sidebar and select "Keep in Launcher", however Google Chromium doesn't appear to have this option. I don't think it's very necessary to mention my hardware to get an answer to this question.I found out about the Cairo-Dock and fell in love with it. It annoys the hell out of me to have to start it every time I boot. I navigate to- System> Preferences> Startup ApplicationsUnder the startup programs tab I click on add... Now what??? Put the name as Cairo... what about the command. I don't know what file to navigate to.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've tried some more recent builds of Libre Office from Alien Bob and I'm still getting crashes when I try to dock the Navigator panel on the left side of the window for any of the office applications.
Details are in this post. More specifically, I'm running libreoffice-3.2.99.3-i486 from Eric. When I run 'oowriter' (Libreoffice Writer) from the command line, and then try to dock the navigator panel, I get this message after the crash:

how to add launchers on the "dock". Anyone knows how to do it? Drag and drop does not work yet. I hope they'll make an auto-hide feature for the "dock" to save space on the screen
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy partner is visually impaired and I have been having a close look at Unity as it could be of assistance to her. Using the dash opens the shortcuts and the display is looking good but at times cluttered. Ideally I would like to be able to arrange things that when she opens up the various section that interest her that only the installed programmes are displayed. I intend to ensure that everything of interest to her is loaded so apps available for download are of no interest and I would wish to have them removed from view.
the most frequently used items will end up automatically displayed and will be easily available to her but in the initial stages having so many items displayed only confuses. What would be the best approach to tackle the problem bearing in mind that I no doubt at times will have to go into her system and correct the odd foul up caused by her disabilities of which vision is one. Ideally I would like to reduce the all applications list so that it only displays the items of interest.
For my own benefit can you advise how I may install the ttf-mscorefonts in order that I can transfer my various templates over from my system as we share certain items. I am only wishing a couple of fonts and found that one could be freely downloaded from Fontmatics. They say that I should be able to copy the .ttf into fonts:.

View 3 Replies View RelatedLoading up gedit (as an example) I am unable to navigate reliably using keyboard navigation controls with the new Unity interface. There are times when left/right will work within a document but up/down will not. After a reboot left/top/right will work but down will not unless you physically click on the position you would like the cursor. I'm guessing unity unity is stealing these keys but not releasing them back to the applications?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to 11.04 about 10 days ago. I have this intermittently weird problem where some of the applications, some of the time, are oversized for the 1024 x 600 display. I can't get to the buttons on the bottom end of the screen, and the window refuses to decrease in size enough so that it all fits on. So far, I've had this problem with Evolution, Pytrainer, Gimp, and another one that escapes my memory.
Has anyone else had this issue? (Except for the Evolution bug, which has been around since 2005 or thereabouts. How on earth is that thing still the default when nobody bothers to fix it up?) how to a workaround? Heck, I don't even know where to go to report this kind of bug.
Although it would resemble the Unity desktop that some of us here may have run away from, is it possible to set the left-hand-side dock to remain on screen, possibly only sliding off when a program window needs it to?
View 2 Replies View Relatedif i run chromium with --enable-gpu-rendering flag chromium's display looks like it's shattered into thousands of pieces and I can't understand a thing. This doesn't happens if I have a previous instance of chromium opened in the usual way, without any flag. In this case if I open another chromium window with the --enable-gpu-rendering flag it's display looks ok, but I can't figure out what's the problem and how could this be fixed if there's solution for it of course.

Is it possible to force AWN to group this specific chromium window under the Grooveshark launcher that I have in the dock? Turning off grouping does not solve this either, as it just shows grooveshark as another chromium window.
Just moved to Ubuntu 11.04 with unity and only have one problem...For most of my desktop needs I prefer to have the Unity Launcher up all the time (fullscreen apps don't cover it), and have set this option with ccsm.
However, when I watch mythtv, it is also under the launcher (and the top panel as well). How can I force mythtv to cover the launcher?
What I really need is a keyboard shortcut to hide the launcher, but the only shortcut is for "show launcher". (I guess the devs assumed everyone would want it hidden by default).
This, by the way is not my usual way for viewing mythtv. I have a projector attached to the desktop PC and it doesn't get a Unity Launcher by default (in Twinview), so no probs. However, occasionally I want to watch something on my computer screen, and that is when this issue arises.
I haven't used Ubuntu for a while, and just reinstalled it. I have one major dislike about the new version, There are several applications I click on and it takes me to the installer.How do I remove those types of applications or just install them all?
