I have created .NET 2.0 windows application setup with MySQL database on the XP and I have installed same setup on the Ubuntu. Right now full setup of my windows application (Desktop application) using WINE installed successfully but I'm facing one major problem. but when I'm trying to open my application using shortcut from desktop its not opening.
View 1 RepliesIn natty, if I hit the super key once, it opens the launcher, but it also opens the dash. And the launcher doesn't work the same when the dash is open. It takes two clicks on a program icon to open the program when the dash is open, and only one click when the dash is closed. Just enough to keep me from getting into a rhythm.Hitting the super key twice will open the launcher and close the dash, but only if you don't hit the super key twice too quickly. Is there some way I can configure unity so the super key (or some other key) opens the launcher but does not open the dash?

It's not on the menu. Runs fine from the command line. Right clicking on desktop doesn't seem to have what I need. I tried using Dolphin file manager, but still no joy. the above command is what i want to be executed at time of running the custom application launcher. if i paste the command in a terminal, it will show the output for 5 secs and then terminates... that's almost what i want. what i exactly want is that, i want it to work like when i click on the shortcut launcher, it should open a terminal and then exectues that command, show the output for 5 sec, pause, and then exits the teriminal.
For awhile I have had this issue with the command line and every time I try to complete any command that requires GTK graphics, It always returns the error "Error: cannot open display: 0:" The "EXPORT display" command that I normally use to fix this issue is not working. The only issue that I can think might be the cause for this could be my upgrade to natty (which was in fact a clean installation), or when I edited plymouth so that the startup and shutdown animations would match my laptop's native resolution (by the way I would also appreciate it if I could do the same with the startup animation, only the shutdown really works). If anybody know how I could resolve this issue I would greatly appreciate it. Oh and for specifics on my machine, I am using an ASUS N82 with an NVIDIA GEFORCE GT335M graphics card, running Ubuntu 11.04.

When I add (open "System" > "Preference" > "Keyboard Shortcuts"; clicked "Add" ) a new shortcut and enter many commands in the "Command" field e.g. "gnome-terminal & xeyes" only the first application is started. I also tried to set up a shell script that contains the application calls and then use "gnome-terminal -x "sh /path/to/the/script.sh" but then I get the error message "There was an error creating the child process for this terminal".

I'm new here, but certainly not new to Linux. Some of you may recognise my screen handle from other forum groups. Sadly my other communities seem to be dying and this one is going strong so here I am! I'm sure there's something I'm doing incorrectly, but here's my scenario:
I have a pair of shell scripts that launch SSH sessions with different forwarded ports, and use them multiple times each day. I'd like to drag the shell script directly onto the top Ubuntu Bar where shortcuts go and be able to use it. Or, even better, put all of my frequently used shell scripts in a "drawer". I know that I used to be able to make a shortcut, and set its path to "gnome-terminal -e file://xx.sh" and the script would run in a new terminal window. When I try to do this, a terminal opens with an error dialog that reads "There was an error creating the child process for this terminal". Permissions?
when i download a program, i configure make and install the programm the icon for the application appears but if i click on it it wont open or run if i search for the file and i click on it that way i get an error message saying :There is no installed viewer capable of displaying the document.

When I looked at the permissions of the other app icons, they were owned by me, the user.Why did plasma make my newly created app launcher owned by root?I'm so used to the way KDE 3 worked. It was so much simpler. I could click anywhere on that desktop to add shortcuts and they were owned by me, not root. I don't understand why they changed this.

Weird little problem. I've bookmarked several network locations but when I try to open them, for some reason the Decibel Audio Player application opens. And if I use the "Connect to Server", it opens Brasero.
I use ctrl + shift + s to launch synaptic in KDE. That works wonderful and it is standardized on all my systems.
