Ubuntu :: Leafpad Segfaulting When Not Root?

Jul 15, 2011

I've been happily using jaunty until yesterday. After reinstalling kubuntu to natty everything works fine except leafpad:

nick@rilmir:~$ sudo leafpad
[sudo] password for nick:
nick@rilmir:~$ leafpad
Segmentation fault
nick@rilmir:~$

So, when I run it as root, it works, but when I run it as ordinary user, it segfaults.Where do I even start looking?

Ubuntu :: Keyboard Shortcut To Open Launcher Without Opening The Dash?

Jul 21, 2011

In natty, if I hit the super key once, it opens the launcher, but it also opens the dash. And the launcher doesn't work the same when the dash is open. It takes two clicks on a program icon to open the program when the dash is open, and only one click when the dash is closed. Just enough to keep me from getting into a rhythm.Hitting the super key twice will open the launcher and close the dash, but only if you don't hit the super key twice too quickly. Is there some way I can configure unity so the super key (or some other key) opens the launcher but does not open the dash?

General :: Make A Shortcut To A Folder?

Dec 10, 2010

i have been running windows from ME through to Windows 7 over the years. and i must admit that because of all the flaws with the earlier versions and those wonderful little viruses that seem to show up even though your teenagers swear they didn't do anything ,have made me somewhat skilled at formatting and reinstalling the OS to the point where i have done it for several other ppl to help them out. I rather enjoy doing it actually.

and i have been a big fan of lets just call it "open source" windows software. now this ubuntu thing seems to have taken some of the fun away..

i ran the cd version of 10.10 and really liked what i saw so i installed it alongside my windows 7. naturally as luck would have it something went astray and i can no longer boot to win7. not a big deal. i was going to format and reinstall anyways. ha ha.

i have been reading through the forum learning what i can but now my question

i still have a machine running windows on my home network.

what i would like to do is make a shortcut to a folder on it from my ubuntu desktop. i do have full access to the machine and the folder , i would just like a shortcut .

General :: Change Shortcut Keys In Thunderbird 3?

Apr 20, 2010

I use Thunderbird on Ubuntu Linux and have just upgraded to Ubuntu 10 / Thunderbird 3. One of my gripes however is that Thunderbird uses a number of shortcut keys that have no secondary key requirements, for example, "Mark as Read" is M. Not ControlM. Just M. Worse, "Mark as Junk" is J. Which means I sometimes inadvertently mark messages as Junk.

How can I customize Thunderbird's shortcuts so, for example, "Mark as Junk" is ControlJ?
