View 6 Replies View RelatedI would like to open multiple applications with one keyboard shortcut but don't get it running. When I add (open "System" > "Preference" > "Keyboard Shortcuts"; clicked "Add" ) a new shortcut and enter many commands in the "Command" field e.g. "gnome-terminal & xeyes" only the first application is started. I also tried to set up a shell script that contains the application calls and then use "gnome-terminal -x "sh /path/to/the/script.sh" but then I get the error message "There was an error creating the child process for this terminal".

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn natty, if I hit the super key once, it opens the launcher, but it also opens the dash. And the launcher doesn't work the same when the dash is open. It takes two clicks on a program icon to open the program when the dash is open, and only one click when the dash is closed. Just enough to keep me from getting into a rhythm.Hitting the super key twice will open the launcher and close the dash, but only if you don't hit the super key twice too quickly. Is there some way I can configure unity so the super key (or some other key) opens the launcher but does not open the dash?

Unfortunately this is a such cyclic problem...
I would like to create a keyboard shortcut to minimize/iconify an active window. Tried xbindkeys-config but no luck.
Alt+F2 brings up the run command on nearly any desktop environment
Alt+F4 kills the app being active at the time
Win+D will minimize all windows
How can I get Alt+F3 to minimize/iconify a window which is active? Thin can be achieved by Alt+Space+N but it's to long and I would like to change this keybind on Alt+F3 since it is quick.
A recent update to Iceweasel 5 (version 5.0-6 ) on my debian (Linux xxxxx 3.0.0-1-amd64 #1 SMP Sun Jul 24 02:24:44 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux) led to a rather odd an annoying behavior. Each time I try to open an external file (pdf, odt) or to save a file on the hard drive, then Iceweasel crashes systematically. Does anyone experience the same? Any idea of how to fix this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got a desktop "konsole" shortcut that works great, it has a "konsole" icon on it that fits well.
I've copied this desktop shortcut to a taskbar shortcut (via drag'n drop).
The result is a usable shortcut, but with a wrong icon image.
I've reproduced the problem three times for different apps and obtained three times the same icon (but the shortcut is however good).
If I open the configuration popup, it displays the correct icon ...
Indeed, I found a way to change the icon : I must modify the icon of the filetype associated with "desktop" filetype ... but after a reboot, all icons will changed Strange isn't it ? have a look of the screenshot
If I start skipping through a movie or song that's playing, sometimes the program will totally freeze. It stops playing audio and video altogether. Similarly, if for instance I'm listening to a music playlist, often times when VLC skips to the next track it stops playing audio, but continues through the track like it's still playing. Once it reaches the end of the first track it had a problem with, it freezes altogether and I have to close the program. In fact, the program stays running even after I "x" out of it, and I have to kill the process in system monitor and restart VLC in order to restore functionality. This happens quite often (as in, a few times a day), and as I'm sure you can imagine, this gets quite annoying, lol.
I've looked in the various logs in Log Viewer, but I don't see any obvious problems. There are no error messages pertaining to VLC, or audio or video output so far as I can tell. I've also tried reinstalling VLC to no avail. I think the next thing I'll try is to remove it completely first, and then reinstall it....but if that doesn't work, is there anything else you guys think I should be looking at? Lucid is the first Ubuntu release that's worked well for me (9.04 and 9.10 had serious issues on my machine) so I'd like not to revert back to an older release just for VLC if at all possible.
I've tried everywhere. about:config, preferences applications, ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list

Not long ago I installed the Linux version of the Real Player (bad, bad me,I know) on my Debian Lenny system. Now Kmail will only open mp3 files attached to incoming mail with the Real Player.Outside of Kmail I have VLC set as my default player for mp3 files and that works fine but Kmail isn't respecting my system choices and I can't find any means, or reference to, changing the default media player in Kmail. This is so incredibly frustrating that it's almost like being stuck with a Windows system again. As a full-time Linux user I've lost my sense of martyred patience.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAnother thing that's always worked before but now I'm struggling with in Jessie, if I open a smb:// url it just says "Not supported", is it possible to add support in Thunar? Some googling says to install gvfs but it is already installed, gvfs-open just says "command not found" though.
Strange thing is that I have tons of those little problems that seem to be regression since Wheezy but somehow I'm the only one hit heh. I actually think all the problems are caused by choosing "XFCE" on the installer because I can reproduce them 100% on any PC as long as I install XFCE, it's better to install entirely default (Gnome) and add xfce afterwards is my theory but I don't feel like reinstalling the whole system again.
After a recent Debian 8 update, I notice a new problem with the Gnome-Terminal. When you open a new tab or window, whatever is the cwd of the current tab becomes the cwd of the new tab or window. This always used to reset to ~, which is what I want. Is this a new "feature" and if I can disable it?

When I try to playback a sound file in aucadity just after having played one in rhythmbox or totem or vlc (or presumably any other media player), I get the following message :
"Error while opening sound device. Please check the output device settings and the project sample rate."
When I try again 2 or 3 seconds later, playback works fine. In fact if I wait 2 or 3 seconds after having stopped playback in rhythmbox or totem before starting playback in audacity, audacity doesn't give me the error message at all. Just wondering what causes this delay (as there are no delays when I go from rhythmbox to totem or vlc or anything else).
