I am looking for an cli based application what will open microsoft office documents in a cli based window. Very similar to the old Word for DOS application. Not I will be running this on the mini install, so no gui or packages are avalible.

I want to use my Thunderbird as default newsreader for rss feeds. When I click on the icon of the website, it tells me that another application is the default. There is an option to browse for another application that I can set as default.But where do I have to browse to find the Thunderbird program. I have to same problem with pdf -files. I want to use acrobat reader as default.

I took all my docs of my pc and put them on a usb drive and now have moved them onto ubuntu. However, when I open them with openoffice, all it brings up is lines and lines like this... how I can fix this and get my documents back to normal again?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI noticed that files that were written in MS Word 2003 change when opened in Open Office 3.2.1 This usually involves tables, lists, and image placement, as well as page margins and boundaries. It sometimes makes it annoying when reading files saved in MS Word .doc format that other people send me. Does anyone know if there is an extension to fix this? Or settings that can be changed? Also, was this addressed in version 3.3.0 of OpenOffice? Has anyone tried it on LibreOffice? I don't want to install VirtualBox, Windows, and Office to read Word files properly. I dislike MS.

View 12 Replies View RelatedThe OpenOffice word processor can open and read Microsoft Word files containing XML (.docx) perfectly well, but it--or KDE--does not seem to recognize a .docx by default. To open one with OpenOffice, I have to manually tell OpenOffice to open it, by going through the "open with" option on the right-click menu and specifying soffice. That's obviously not a problem, but it's a minor curiosity. Haven't Word XML files been around long enough that KDE and OpenOffice should recognize them immediately?
I'm not quite sure which to blame this on--KDE or OpenOffice--but KDE seems more logical. And is this a small limitation of KDE 3.5? because I'm still using 3.5. (I'm trying to switch over to Trinity, but have not made the switch yet.)
How can I change the mountpoint of my partition /media/documents to /documents.This is a partition of sdb and a fixed disk.The reason is that /media/ sometimes creates ghostdirectories while /Windows/C never does so, programmes writing/reading from this partition therfore don't work if a ghostdir_ exists.(BTW Suse is on sdb5 and sdb6. on sda is windows and used to be Ubuntu, the Suse-swap is sda5. Windows is out of use.)

I am trying to find an application with low dependencies ( not okular ) that i can use to book mark my pdf's and ebook's. I am reading tutorials and its driving me nuts not being able to book mark my position or key topics. It would be nice to have something to manage all my books. I am currently using evince and its ok. As stated above I need to make things more...well..readable. I currently use gnome. I dont want to switch to kde. Okular worked well in the past; however, once all the requirements are met its almost kde.

that works, BUT the browser is opening BEHIND the top 'menu' bar, and the bottom 'task' bar, which obviously, is not what i want. how do i set it to either hide these 'bars' or open the browser in front of them like it does if i manually run the command from a terminal?

Basically I am looking for something like a web based FTP client that runs on the file server (I use the term loosely) I have. Basically I want to be able to open a web browser on a different computer in my internal network, punch in hostnameort and get a web page that I can use to move files between the computer.
I don't care if it uses FTP or not. I basically just want the specific functionality. I have vsftp installed on my 'server' already.I have looked at Gollem, but I am unsure if that is the correct application for me to use. I cannot open documents (.odt, .doc etc) synchronized through Ubuntu One in LibreOffice 3 on my laptop running Ubuntu 11.04 (network upgrade from 10.10). LibreOffice quits by throwing an error message: "General network error has occurred". However, if I copy the same files outside the Ubuntu One synced directory (e.g. to ~/Desktop), I can open them without any errors. I just can't open them within the synced directory.
FYI, I have synchronized an existing folder on Ubuntu One after the upgrade and the synchronization has been smooth. The synced folder is a sub-directory of ~/Documents and has local sync enabled. what's going on? Let me know what more info can I provide? EDIT: I can open other files like .pdf, .mp3, .php, shared in the same directory. I'm having problem with LibreOffice in particular.

View 4 Replies View RelatedFor awhile I have had this issue with the command line and every time I try to complete any command that requires GTK graphics, It always returns the error "Error: cannot open display: 0:" The "EXPORT display" command that I normally use to fix this issue is not working. The only issue that I can think might be the cause for this could be my upgrade to natty (which was in fact a clean installation), or when I edited plymouth so that the startup and shutdown animations would match my laptop's native resolution (by the way I would also appreciate it if I could do the same with the startup animation, only the shutdown really works). If anybody know how I could resolve this issue I would greatly appreciate it. Oh and for specifics on my machine, I am using an ASUS N82 with an NVIDIA GEFORCE GT335M graphics card, running Ubuntu 11.04.
