My cli php is missing modules as regular user but not as root. In particular, mysql is missing... which is how I came across this issue. I'm running Slack 12.2 w/ php 5.2.14, standard Slack packages. As a normal unprivileged user:
-> whoami ; php -v ; php -m |wc -l ; php -m |grep mysql
jerry
PHP 5.2.14 (cli) (built: Aug 25 2010 15:17:31)

I've tried reinstalling php and it made no difference. php.ini is not to blame. I've Google'd this to death, no luck.

The case is that I've got 2 harddisks. On the one windows xp(slave) - and on the other one ubuntu (master). During the boot I get these errors...
"Gave up waiting for boot device"
"Boot args(cat /proc/cmdline)"
"Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; 1s , dev)"
"/dev/disk/by-uuid/f96603ce - does not exist"
These problems occured because of this:
After using ubuntu I tried to reset my bios, because else it couldn't have found the disk with xp. And I didn't disconnect the disk with xp while resetting the bios. And now the system can't find the disk with xp any more when booting. Is there a way to finding the disk..? And I'm in doubt about IF I've resetted the bios at all. I miss a manual for PCCHIPS M851. May be it can take 20 minutes for the bios to be resetted? The shop where I bought the motherboard doesn't exist any more... and don't know the manufacturer. Could I damage the motherboard if I tried rebooting lots of times to get it work?

Tonight I installed ubuntu 10.10 (32 bit) on an external usb harddrive with a dvd I burned and I used my older desktop. I disconnected all internal and external drives first so everything had to be put on the usb drive I selected (only option available). I used the option to load extra software, use the entire hard drive, and let the software do it's thing. I basically had no options where to put things and it didn't have much choice.
When I boot the usb drive on my laptop (win 7 64 bit) by telling the bios to boot to it first... I get an error: modprobe: FATAL Could not load /lib/modules 2.6.35-22 generic modules No such file or directory. This message appears twice and then it does boot into ubuntu and seems to work fine. I'm new to this OS so that is an uneducated guess but the things I have done seem to be working. So exactly what is this error referring too? Is there a way to fix the problem or do I just ignore it.

I've read the Install from LiveCD post regarding the creation of a /boot partition and a / root partition. I've tried creating them without the LVM group and with. But every time I appempt to install I get...

i couldn't find anything on google. So here is my problem: It's Debian GNU/Linux. I installed apache2 a few weeks ago, but due to some work I couldn't go on installing further things. Today I installed php5 and mysql. Everything seemed to work fine. I loaded an existing MyBB Board and WordPress Site onto the server and imported the mysql db. I can open the sites and login. However, there are problems. I think my problems are due to the compiled modules. Some are missing. I checked several sites. They all give me this listing:
Code:
apache2 -l
Compiled in modules:
core.c
mod_access.c
[Code]...
What should I do? How can I get the missing modules? Do I have to install apache again (how? remove - install? install what?)? Step-by-step instructions would be kind, because I don't know a lot about unix systems.

I upgraded to the latest -current just like always. I do the kernel packages last. This time, the machine failed to boot, telling me that it could not find the kernel modules. Well, rats.
I booted with a slackware dvd, passed the huge.s kernel, and booted into /dev/sda7, which is my main partition. I mounted /dev/sda7, and installed the kernel-modules-2.6.35.11 pkg. Rebooted, and got the same error?
I booted again with the dvd, mounted the partition, and navigated to /lib/modules - no 2.6.35.11 in there!
How do I get that package to install?

Upgraded from 13.1. Certain panel plugins seem to be gone in XFCE4.
When I try to add the Icon Box, Task List or several others to the panel, I get "Could not open 'iconbox' module".
There is an iconbox module in /usr/lib/xfce4/panel-plugins, along with some others, but they all date back to 3/29. In /usr/share/xfce4/panel-plugins, there is a mix of newer and older files.
Did the icon box go away? Do I need to nuke ~/.config/xfce4?

I am relatively new to CentOS. I attempted to install 5.3 with firewire several weeks ago and abandoned the install because it was taking too long to figure out the problems. I've had to revisit this and am having troubles with it. I was told that CentOS 5 has firewire 1394 support. When I did the typical install, it didn't physically (manually) install the video1394 and raw1394 modules. At boot up, my computer says that video1394 and raw1394 are "Module(s) not found". If I do <lsmod> I get (*snippet of o/p),
Module Size Used by
lockd 63081 0
sunrpc 145405 2 lockd
dm_mirror 24393 0
dm_multipath 24909 0
scsi_dh 11713 1 dm_multipath
[Code]...
I have found several other posts on the web that indicate I have to get the latest source files, but I do not know which one is the correct one or where to find it. Can anyone ponit me in the right direction? Is there anything else that I need to do?

I had to reinstall 10.04 because I got an error, waiting for root device. And I figured I knew why I got this error: I changed my xconf.cfg (or whatever the file is in /etc/x11/) -- So this time I downloaded the 64 bit, because I have a 64 bit computer, so though, might as well get it! I've narrowed the problem down to this:
After I install nvidia settings (the x server or whatever?) And change my view to TwinView (I have my laptop monitor and an external monitor), and save the config file, this happens. I will do some more testing, but here is the whole error message: Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems:
- Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)
- Check rootdelay= (did the system not wait long enough?)
- Check root= (did the system wait for the right device?
- Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)
ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/bcb49367-8554-4116-8e4d2b39d92415cf does not exist. Dropping to a shell!

Last week I upgraded my Ubuntu 8.04 to a 8.10. While my ever so loyal machine was performing this business, I started my diner, once in a while having a quick look at how things were going. And they were going fine. The last thing I noticed on the screen was that upgrading was at about 3 minutes from finishing, and when I got back to my PC I was confronted with a black screen. Later on I found out that the reason for the crash was a malfunctioning USB-hub in which my mouse was located.
Anyway, I couldn't get my Ubuntu running, the only thing I got to do was reach the log-in screen, enter my username and password, after which the screen froze. Typing CTRL+ALT+F1 gave me a terminal window, but I had no clue what to go looking for or where/how I could find it.
In the mean time I re-partitioned the HD (75GB), placed the old Ubuntu on a 30GB partition and gave the other 45GB to a new partition on which I re-installed my Ubuntu 8.04. Working from that partition I was able to find out that the old version had indeed upgraded to 8.10 but was missing the <gnome-power-manager> file.
My question now: If I can in any way restore that missing file or point me out some kind of tutorial where I can learn how to do it?
Untill now I have been looking through about a few hundred tutorials, but most of them are written by people who know the terminal inside-out, and frankly are not really easily understandable for newbies.
The fact is: in that old version I have many maps and files which I would like to save (yes, you are completely right: I should have saved them in the first place!) but some of them are for some reason write-protected and I do not know how to get root-priviliges to un-lock them.

Fedora 10 64bit install from DVD. Working my way through the how to's, this is my first linux experience! When I choose the user switcher > other OR system > Logout user > Switch user my system goes to a blank screen and I can only get it back by using the reset switch (or power off)If user1 logs out, user2 can then log on and vise versa.I can go to applications > terminal as user1 and su user2 no problem ( and back to user1)but if I use the user switcher = problem.I am fairly sure that the users are set up correctly, they all work individually.I searched the forums and there seems to be no current similar problems mentioned. My system is a gigabyte GA K8VM800M (onboard graphics and sound) AMD Sempron 1GB ram 40GB HD I used the DVD to install on to previously used HD with no other OS on it, I chose the 'use the whole hard drive for fedora' option and had no reported problems with the install.Have I got something set up incorrectly? or where should a look for help on this.

I have a new installation of Slackware 13.37 on an old Dell Optiplex P4. Right after installation (when I only had a root account) I found that X (regardless of window manager) would develop video problems after a few minutes (horizontal lines, slowdown -- though without crashing). A message board informed me that that there was a bug in my onboard Intel video chip that would require me to enable shadow buffering (which amounts to disabling 2D acceleration). I made the change in the Xorg.conf, and the issue disappeared.
However, once I finally got around to adding a new user, X began acting up again, though I have no idea whether it's related to the earlier problem. Now, after a few minutes, it actually crashes -- though only when started under the new user. Root still works fine. I'm new to Linux, and still trying to sort through all the different logging tools, so I'm not sure what I ought to be posting. Here's the relevant bit from Xorg.0.log:

I'm trying to prevent a few modules from loading at boot, like i.e. bluetooth, sco, bnep, btusb, usb_storage and uvcvideo, so I blacklisted them in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf but they still get loaded. I've checked that I unload all of the ones depending on eachother so that shouldn't be the problem, I think. Does anyone know what I'm supposed to do to really prevent them from loading?

To start off with, I'll put the information as best I can that I think would help everyone figure out what it is that I want to do:My Laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1545I have a Broadcom BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev. 01) Wifi Driver (according to lspci)Take care, I already have it working!I installed the driver for it (as best I could) from I am running Debian 5.08 Lenny amd64My wireless internet works via the instructions from My question is how I can set it up so that every time I boot, I don't have to run:modprobe ieee80211_crypt_tkipinsmod wl.koIn the terminal (after using su and then going to the folder that contains the wl.ko file).
I've been trying to find this on the internet, but it seems that I have been unlucky in that department. This is the first time in about 6 years I've used linux (back in high school I tinkered with Slackware, Gentoo, and Vector, recently tried openSUSE but I've always been curious to try out Debian).

I've recently been having a lot of trouble trying to install a ralink 3062 driver on my ubuntu 11.04 desktop. There are quite a few excellent tutorials on this website. [URL]... In my case, however, adding the conflicting drivers to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf didn't prevent them being loaded at boot-time, so I could not make the change permanent. I eventually found a workaround online which I thought I'd share here. Once you have updated your blacklist and module list, use Quote:
sudo update-initramfs -u
I'm a beginner so I'm not sure, but I think the problem is that initramfs loads the conflicting modules into memory before the system comes to reading the blacklist and module files. Once you've done this, restart your system and you shouldn't have any further problems. P.s. As far as I know this only works (but should only be a problem for kernel 2.6 and later)

I've been trying to load my pcmcia network card driver "xirc2ps_cs" at startup with no success. I have added "modprobe xirc2ps_cs" to the rc.modules file but it doesn't load at startup. Curiously, though, if I execute rc.modules AFTER the machine has booted it will load the modules just fine. Just not during the boot up process. Thinking that hotstart might have been causing problems I've disabled hotstart (chmod -x) temporarilly to remove it from the picture, but there was no change.

The new kernel upgrade on Fedora 14 will not boot. lib/modules do not exist is the message. Grub was adjusted to match the old kernel, and the new kernel when booting says lib/modules do not exist. The old kernel has twice as many modules as the new kernel in lib/modules. How do I get the new modules to install so I can boot with the new kernel then? Should I reinstall the new kernel?
