Slackware :: Cli Php Missing Modules As Regular User But Not As Root?

Sep 9, 2010

My cli php is missing modules as regular user but not as root. In particular, mysql is missing... which is how I came across this issue. I'm running Slack 12.2 w/ php 5.2.14, standard Slack packages. As a normal unprivileged user:

-> whoami ; php -v ; php -m |wc -l ; php -m |grep mysql
jerry
PHP 5.2.14 (cli) (built: Aug 25 2010 15:17:31)
Copyright (c) 1997-2010 The PHP Group

[code]....

I've tried reinstalling php and it made no difference. php.ini is not to blame. I've Google'd this to death, no luck.

Slackware :: Missing Kernel-modules Package

Feb 11, 2011

I upgraded to the latest -current just like always. I do the kernel packages last. This time, the machine failed to boot, telling me that it could not find the kernel modules. Well, rats.

I booted with a slackware dvd, passed the huge.s kernel, and booted into /dev/sda7, which is my main partition. I mounted /dev/sda7, and installed the kernel-modules-2.6.35.11 pkg. Rebooted, and got the same error?

I booted again with the dvd, mounted the partition, and navigated to /lib/modules - no 2.6.35.11 in there!

How do I get that package to install?

Slackware :: Missing Panel Modules In XFCE4 - 13.37 ?

Jul 16, 2011

Upgraded from 13.1. Certain panel plugins seem to be gone in XFCE4.

When I try to add the Icon Box, Task List or several others to the panel, I get "Could not open 'iconbox' module".

There is an iconbox module in /usr/lib/xfce4/panel-plugins, along with some others, but they all date back to 3/29. In /usr/share/xfce4/panel-plugins, there is a mix of newer and older files.

Did the icon box go away? Do I need to nuke ~/.config/xfce4?

General :: Log On As Another Regular But No Root User With That Password And Boot Up Into Centos

I forgot the root passwd for linux (via the "single" mode) and, according to all confirms, did so successfully! I then try to log on to Centos as root, and I can't....it says "incorrect passwd"! So then I log on as another, regular, but not root, user, with that passwd, and boot up into Centos. if I try to "su" to root, with the new root passwd, again it says its incorrect. there is no "system admin" passwd set. I checked!. I need root access within Centos!

Software :: Shared Library Accessible By Root And Not By Regular User?

Oct 12, 2010

I'm trying to install Google Chrome on Slackware 13.1 (32 bit) and I have a little problem with shared libraries.The google-chrome applications looks for nss libraries with file names ending in apparently non-standard ways (for me and my system, at least): for example, it looks for libnns3.so.1d, but I have libnss3.so, so I created a symbolic link libnss3.so.1d -> libnss3.so. The problem now is that if I run google-chrome as my usual regular user I still get the missing library error, but if I run it as root I don't get the error anymore (well, it still complains about other libraries missing for the same naming reason, but anyway it's able to find the one I just renamed). The permissions seems fine to me:

Code:

/usr/lib# ls -l | grep seamonkey
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Jun 16 22:03 seamonkey -> seamonkey-2.0.4
drwxr-xr-x 14 root root 4096 Oct 12 10:47 seamonkey-2.0.4

Slackware :: Automount LUKS Encrypted USB Disk As Regular User

Oct 29, 2009

How can I get a LUKS encrypted partition on an external USB device automounted with r/w access for non-privileged users?

Background:
I just reformatted an external USB device with ext4. The only partition is LUKS encrypted. Now, when I plug the device to my computer, KDE notifies me and asks me to enter the LUKS passphrase. Then it mounts the device. Little snag here: Non-privileged users have read-only access.

My user is a member of group plugdev, but not of group disk, as this was discouraged several times, e. g. by Robby Workman. With non-encrypted disks regular users have read/write access, or can change the filemodes accordingly, as far as I recall (currently I have no more non-encrypted disks left to verify it...)

Slackware :: Suspend - Hibernate At Command Line As Regular User In 13.37 - Use ConsoleKit?

Apr 18, 2011

Using the most recent -current/13.37, I'm curious if there is a New Right Way to suspend as a regular user from the command line, now that we've got PolicyKit/ConsoleKit running the show. I've seen some things (e.g., on the Archlinux wiki) that seem to come close, but require UPower. For some reason I can't wrap my head around the PolicyKit documentation well enough to figure this out.

My old solution was to add a line to /etc/sudoers giving anyone in the power group access to pm-suspend, pm-hibernate, and shutdown, and this is probably what I'll end up doing with 13.37.

What is the difference between creating a "regular" user and creating a "system" user on Linux?

For example:

Similarly it seems there are normal groups and system groups. Doing an internet search and reading man pages does not give much information on the whole concept of system and regular user/group.

Slackware :: Touchpad Not Working In X For Non-root User?

Jan 2, 2011

Just recently discovered that for a non-root user the touchpad on my Acer laptop ( Aspire 5720z fyi ) isn't working in X ( KDE or XFCE ). It does work in in tty (at login) and for root it works in both environments.

I'm running 13.1 x64 on it, with the normal security patches via slackpkg. Didn't notice before since I normally use a mouse (and thus I do like the touchpad being disabled so I don't 'tap' away the cursur while typing).

With the recent holidays (with family visits and all) I took the laptop on my lap,.and voila: no trackpad movement.. I did some searching allready, but this problem seems to be solved since a while, and isn't supposed to be in 13.1

FROM RELEASE NOTES Piter Punk for udev and slackpkg work, updating the shadow password system, writing the initial patch for polkit to use a shadow authentication backend so we could consider using KDE 4.4.3, and making tap-to-click work with Synaptics touchpads out-of-the-box,)

/etc/modprobe.d/psmouse(.conf) allready has this commented line:

Slackware :: 13.1 Runs Fine As Root, Crashes When Run As User?

Jun 26, 2010

I have had slack 12 on this computer for quite a while with never a problem. Slack 13.1 was installed a few weeks ago without a problem, it seems to run forever as long as it is root. When I go to user it will crash 2 or 3 times a day. When it crashes it is a total lockup that only the off/on switch will reset it. There is no certain time or thing that causes it, it will just lockup while surfing using the command line switching or opening a new le. Any suggestions will be appreciated! I have googled and searched with no info found.I do have 13.1 on another computer that works fine, it has an nvidea video card in it and it is 64 bit.

Slackware :: ERROR: No /lib/modules/2.6.33.4-smp Kernel Modules Tree Found For Kernel "2.6.33.4-smp" ... For Mkinitrd - Encrypted Installation

I am trying to setup Slacware 13.1 x86_64 to a encrypted partition. I used the README_CRYPT.TXT howto : [URL] At the step when I create an initrd.gz I get this error: Quote: ERROR: No /lib/modules/2.6.33.4-smp kernel modules tree found for kernel "2.6.33.4-smp"

This command was successful, but I don't know if this is alright. I made the changes in lilo.conf, add initrd = initrd.gz. This is all on unencrypted /boot partition. The boot=/dev/sda1 I also set for the unencrypted boot partition. When I boot the system I get a kernel panic:

General :: Apache2 Compiled Modules Missing?

Jan 22, 2011

i couldn't find anything on google. So here is my problem: It's Debian GNU/Linux. I installed apache2 a few weeks ago, but due to some work I couldn't go on installing further things. Today I installed php5 and mysql. Everything seemed to work fine. I loaded an existing MyBB Board and WordPress Site onto the server and imported the mysql db. I can open the sites and login. However, there are problems. I think my problems are due to the compiled modules. Some are missing. I checked several sites. They all give me this listing:

Code:
apache2 -l
Compiled in modules:
core.c
mod_access.c

[Code]...

What should I do? How can I get the missing modules? Do I have to install apache again (how? remove - install? install what?)? Step-by-step instructions would be kind, because I don't know a lot about unix systems.

CentOS 5 :: Firewire 1394 Modules Missing?

Nov 5, 2009

I am relatively new to CentOS. I attempted to install 5.3 with firewire several weeks ago and abandoned the install because it was taking too long to figure out the problems. I've had to revisit this and am having troubles with it. I was told that CentOS 5 has firewire 1394 support. When I did the typical install, it didn't physically (manually) install the video1394 and raw1394 modules. At boot up, my computer says that video1394 and raw1394 are "Module(s) not found". If I do <lsmod> I get (*snippet of o/p),

Module Size Used by
lockd 63081 0

dm_mirror 24393 0
dm_multipath 24909 0
scsi_dh 11713 1 dm_multipath

I have found several other posts on the web that indicate I have to get the latest source files, but I do not know which one is the correct one or where to find it. Can anyone ponit me in the right direction? Is there anything else that I need to do?
