Fedora :: Get Half Taskbar In VMWare 7 / Fix It?
Feb 5, 2011I just installed Fedora 14(KDE) into VM7.
VMware tools may be completely installed.I can drag & drop files from my Win7 host.
But when I press ctrl+alt+enter to make it fullscreen in VM,I get a half size taskbar.How to fix it?

Mar 10, 2010I am hitting a wall here - with the new 4.4 installed and working well, the one thing that is killing me is not being able to read the active taskbar item or the plasma peanut menu (see screenshot. You can see that the firefox and gimp are "active" and too dark to read, while kwrite is inactive and readable.They are BOTH too dark, and I cannot seem to find the option that controls those color elements.

May 7, 2011It happens before,put normally it'll disappear after several second, As the title said, every time I execute "xrandr -o right" ,the screen rotates but the top half turns to a black screen.I click the unity and it can appear on the area,the cursor appears too. I was't sure if the problem was caused by natty or not,so let's find out.

Mar 5, 2010My little girl played with my keyboard and mouse and moved my entire screen to upper section. I tried everything, and can't figure it out how to bring it down. I see black color trough half of my display. I can go blindly in upper section without being able to see, and from time to time click the shut down bottom. Do you any of you have idea how to fix it? Ubuntu rocks, I love it, very stable, solid rock.I twill never use anything else.

Gateway SB400a computer with Edubuntu Lucid installed. The problem first cropped up when I installed the Edubuntu packages on Ubuntu. I did a fresh install with Edubuntu and the problem persists. I don't want to go back to Ubuntu since this computer is for my Grandkids and I want to the Edubuntu stuff for them.
I don't have the specs handy, but I can get them. what I have to do to get them. (it happens when you get old)

OpenSUSE Install :: Screen Print Some Text About Half Second And Goes Black
Jul 27, 2010When installer is loading linux kernel and it goes to 100%, the next thing that I can see is black screen and can just use shut-down button. This situation appears about 90% tries. After 7 reboots I installed Suse successful but the problem appears also now. Just after select Suse in GRUB, the screen print some text about half a second and it goes black. Sometime I can start system normal. I use openSUSE 11.3 Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz, 4gb ram, Geforce 8600M GT graphic card

Oct 15, 2010I downloaded some software yesterday from the ubuntu rep. This morning my screen has the bottom part of in black there are the KDE docky ,firefox ,terminal & rhythmbox icons ,so is the taskbar..but the wallpaper is cut up ,4cm off. I have noticed that the splash screens res has changed too. It's sharper (smaller). The browser as a consequence is also half lit & having noscript in the bottom without it being visible is a problem. Why has this happened & how can I fix it. The last working config, well that's somewhere else.

Aug 31, 2010I've been running KDE4 with Suse 11.2 for about a year or so now, with no problems. Yesterday, the background to my screen suddenly went black. Open windows were unaffected, but I could see my theme, the task manager, etc. I couldn't open any programs other than the ones already open (and ones that they launch).This problem was system-wide, in that it affects all accounts on my machine.I thought I'd solved the problem after discussion with someone by email, by forcing KDE to recreate itself. I did this by
mv ~/.kde4 ~/oldkde4
then relogging. This, in itself, seemed to make matters worse, so I went
mv ~/.kde4 ~/newkde4
mv ~/oldkde4 ~/.kde4
and relogged. To my surprise, everything worked thereafter for a few hours.
I think this was coincidence, because, after a few hours, the same thing happened and the "fix" didn't work anymore.I checked .xsession-error and it says
/etc/X11/xim: Checking whether an input method should be started.
sourcing /etc/sysconfig/language to get the value of INPUT_METHOD
INPUT_METHOD is not set or empty (no user selected input method).

Ubuntu Installation :: System Half Is In English And Half In Another Language After Upgrading To 10.04
May 27, 2010I just upgraded from 9.04 to 10.04 and so far I have those problems:
1. Before, everything in my system was in English. Now, half is in English, half in another language (PCManFM, some menus etc). I tried setting up Language Support but it changes nothing.
2. Cursor themes work only when hovering the mouse over "X" buttons in the right top corner of the window. As soon as I move the mouse somewhere else, it goes back to default cursor theme, even though I tried selecting 5 different themes - same result.
4. Hibernation don't work anymore. s2disk saves image to disk and then it resumes it but computer stops on text message along the lines of "Resume completed successfully".
5. Changing volume with keyboard shotcuts no longer works.
6. Smplayer does not display picture anymore when playing movies. The view is just empty. I can only hear the soundtrack. It is using XV filter.
7. PCmanFM that used to worked flawlessly, now after going into 1 or 2 subdirectories stops reacting to clicks on file/folder list. Need to open new instance to be able to do anything and this again would become unusable after visiting 1-2 folders.

Jun 22, 2011I'm not sure if this is the right place for this. I'm not sure which veraion of linux I have but it was the latest veraon bfor the recent update. I accidentally hit alt ctrl f11 and my comp went inyo the grub menu. I've tried startx and it does nothing. About half the commands I enter do nothing and the other half r not found or are incorrect. The only vommand thw actualley work is reboot. I searched for this and read a grub guide but it did no good.

Oct 24, 2010I am quite new to this ubuntu business, but i like what I'm seeing so far. Well, almost everything that I'm seeing. I seem to have run into a tricky problem with xubuntu 10.04. I was in the process of customizing my desktop appearance (via Xfce4 Settings manager), and I found a nice theme to go with (dusk I think it was called). I then went on to change the window settings and starting from the bottom most option I browsed the various styles. After a few of these my computer decided to log me out quite suddenly, and I was prompted to login.
This is where the problem is: I type in my password and it logs me in for maybe a half a second only to log me out again. No matter how many times I put in the password I keep getting logged out. So now I'm running xubuntu 10.04 off a pendrive that was used in its initial installation. Is there any way to log back in and stay logged in long enough to undo the window styling at fault? I had put in quite a bit of work migrating files, installing all sorts of things and setting up fancy launchers, and I would prefer not to have to redo it again.
Ubuntu :: AMD CPU Runs At Less Than Half Speed?
Jun 9, 2010I have a machine currently running Debian Lenny on which I would like to run Ubuntu for the driver support in its newer kernel. However, I did a test boot from the installation CD and it appears to be running at less than half its rated speed. This is the output from the Debian kernel:

May 13, 2011Finally got around to buying a DVD player so i put 3 old Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns on one dvd and it plays fine on the computer. However , when played on the tv-dvd player only one movie ( the last one on the dvd ) would play . I did not use a 3rd party converter app as the dvd player advertised that it would play standard avi movies. I burned with Brassero and noted that half the dvd was still blank if that's relative .

Ubuntu :: Half Of My Desktop Is Missing / Get Full?
Jul 17, 2010My desktop has been shifted about half way to the right and a "black hole" has been left. I'm not sure how else to describe this, so I will include a picture to try to make things clearer:
I have no idea how I have done this. The Android SDK Emulator is the only thing I have downloaded and played with recently. I've checked monitor settings, changed the background image, adjusted the number of desktops (all desktops are affected), logged out & back in and rebooted. I'm not sure where else to look. Googling hasn't given me any more clues so far.
Everything else is working fine. Windows will open up normally and cover up the "black hole". Although they do leave an after-image, particularly when you move them around - like a 70s video clip!

Jul 11, 2010When the opening little music plays during start up, the first half of it is loud, but halfway through, the sound cuts to about half volume. Everything else afterwards is also very quiet. After boosting the volume output to 150%, and boosting VLC's audio output to 200%, the audio is still barely audible on my laptop. I've gone into alsamixer, and it's at max. I once found how to reset the audio card, and the sound was normal again, but only until I shut the laptop off, and next time, it was the same as always.
I'm on Ubuntu 9.10, and using an old Toshiba Satellite laptop. Don't know what my sound card is.
