Im running ubuntu 10.04 and I cannot get ipblock to update its lists. I've checked the ipblock.lists and the urls listed are working. When I go to update it gives me a different error code each time for the lists. Ipblock will load up and work but not with updated lists,
I was looking for a similar program to PeerBlock on Windows, as most/some might know it's the project that took over after PeerGaurdian halted. So I have installed IPBlock and was having issues with updating the lists so i removed them, re-added them and still cannot. I can't import lists from URL's either without getting the same error. Kinda seeming like a waste of time right now...
Code:
ipblock[7147]:error:update of badpeers.gz failed ipblock[7147]:error:update of level1.gz failed ipblock[7147]:error:update of level2.gz failed ipblock[7147]:error:update of Primary failed
When opening "Update-manager" I get this error: E:Malformed line 47 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse)
What I was trying to do was update my Opera web browser, when I tried, Ubuntu told me that I was attempting to download from an unauthenticated source, I checked the software sources list and Opera was in there, so I deleted it and re-added it, I must have done it wrong because after closing out and refreshing "Update-manager" it gave me the error above and closed. So now I can't update anything.
I have recently taken delivery of a Dell Inspiron mini netbook with Ubuntu on, and I am new-fangled .install updates, I clicked the (orange down-arrow) button, and it compalined "E: /var/cache/apt/archives/linux-image-2.6.24-22-lpia_2.6.24-22.45netbook9_lpia.deb: files list file for package `libxcb-shape0' is missing final newline"
i dont like microsoft. I refuse to support them or give them market share in any way. I get tired of going to a website just to have microsoft linked in it somehow, such as having a bing map display on the page. Is there a way to configure Privoxy to completely block all microsoft related crap? A list or range of IP's that could be blocked? If so, anyone know where I can get a list of microsoft ip's to block?
I have FC-4 with Squid and Dansguardian. Internet Users in my organisation are configured to use proxy with 8080 in browser IE. There's no issue with Users as DG working perfect for them. We have Business Development Team, as they need to do most of the research over internet, their IP's are included into "Exception IP List" in Dansguardian. Obviously these people will be excepted from all banned sites, BD Team able to do chat, play games and do social networking and other stuff over the net, which results in more bandwidth consumption and breaking office policies.
I have tried to implement SQUID ACL's to block few sites like " meebo.com, orkut.com,facebook.com etc" but SQUID acl's not coming into picture. any one who successfully blocked chat, banned sites and social networking in DG with my case.
I want to generate a temporary random list from a directory of files and then determine the size of an arbitrary block of files from this list (say 1-25 or 26-50) and add their names to a file along with some other info for each name. I can generate a random list with file sizes like this: ls -l | sort -R | cut -d " " -f 6 but i'm not sure how to add up the sizes of just a certain block of these files and at the same time save the file names.
Does anyone know if IIPBlock does it's operation before IPTables completes or after? I'm using a KVM as a Router and GuideDog is Forwarding all HTTP/HTTPS to my KVM Web Server. When looking at my web access.log I see CHINA doing it's stuff, but IPBlock is not blocking that IP (58.218.199.147) on the KVM Router. Before doing the KVM Router and just receiving HTTP to mu KVM Web Server, I always had logs of CHINA, but now I don't. So I'm assuming GuideDog is rendering IPBlock useless. Can anyone let me know if your able to connect to my web server at I would like to check even if this setup is working. Because I have a seperate access-thegardenofedenblessing.log for my domain then I do for my localhost (access.log) and CHINA is showing up on my localhost log.
Just as the title says. Why am I required to input my user password to launch this program? I am using 10.04 Ubuntu and this requirement does kind of annoy me. I like making a second account that can admin the system, and my main account has the admin option disabled in the 'Users & Groups'. I read it's secure to do this, but I see other downsides. Firestarter too requires a password to load it's GUI. Is there any work around because I don't like leaving admin privileges enabled especially when I'm not at the computer.
I have totally exhausted my search to find IPBlock. I use it on my other Ubuntu machines but for some strange reason I cannot find it anywhere for my Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick. I know where the iplist is but not the actual file IPBlock download
I'm live in a place where internet bandwidth costs an arm and a leg. I have been playing around with Clear-Os, and would like to know how to block windows update and certain websites.
Today Software Update on Fedora 13 listed updates for OpenJDK, SSH protocol, and SE Linux policy configuration. When I clicked on the Install button I was presented with a list of nearly a hundred fonts that Software Update said were required. They were all fonts that I have removed from my computer over and over - fonts for languages that I do not speak and don't want on my computer.
I unchecked the fonts, but Software Update said it could not continue without installing them. Apparently they are dependencies of one or more of the three packages I mentioned above. Is there a way to figure out what package is constantly installing these fonts?
I note that after deleting the fonts I never have any problem with apps failing to run. And if I go to a web page created with a language that requires a particular type of font, Firefox still displays the page with the correct font for that language, even after removing the fonts from my computer. Are they really required?
I'm trying to troubleshoot a block seek error with a particular DVD (most DVDs work with my computer, just a random few that fail). The failure is (I presume) caused by incorrect information on the DVD itself to try to fool unlicensed players. I get a libdvdread error "Can't seek to block ...". I have traced this error message to three sources in dvd_reader.c. I have modified the error message so that it also prints the file name and the line, but I am having such a hell of a time trying to compile libdvdread. I have installed libdvdcss2-dev, and most of the other obvious development packages. However, the instructions for compiling lindvdread make no sense (I am assuming they want me to run the 'configure2' script here) and it is throwing up all kind of weird compiler errors. This can obviously be compiled somewhere for a binary package to exist. How this is done?
I'm new to GNU/Linux and recently installed Edubuntu 10.10 beta on a workplace computer. I'm currently a technology intern at a public school and want to install Edubuntu on some older computers here. I am working behind a network proxy provided by the department of education.I tried to install flashplugin-nonfree and noticed I didn't have a full package list. After running sudo apt-get update I get the error "unable to connect to[url]....
I'm thinking this might have to do with the network proxy, but for some reason I'm able to browse http:[url]... just fine in Firefox. How do I update the package list?
Edit: I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on another machine at work and it has the same issue, i.e. I can't update the package list.
i have ubuntu karmic 9.10 and when i try to update anything or install anything the a very similar error occurs."(Reading database . . . 55%dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error , aborting: files list file for package `com.palm.net.precoddr.fcoaster' contains empty filenameit repeats this message 3 times then gives up i believe.
I get this message when automatic update runs: Apt Authentication issue Problem during package list update. The package list update failed with a authentication failure. This usually happens behind a network proxy server. Please try to click on the "Run this action now" button to correct the problem or update the list manually by running Update Manager and clicking on "Check". When I click "Run this action now" It comes back with a whole list of items that can't be updated for various reasons
i have a inspiron 1520 laptop which is starting to slow down some so i thought linux would help because all i do is internet use, so i download it from another computer and mount it to a usb flash drive like the site says, (netbook remix latest version) then i put it in my laptop and it loads all the way and i press try and after about 10 minutes of loading it lets me try. so that was ok really slow but i thought id install it to hard drive to see if it improved speed. so the next time i start my laptop i get Buffer i/o error on device loop0 logical block xxxxxx so i redo the usbflashdrive no errors switch usb ports and same thing, ive done the switch usb ports and redo the flash drive about 4 times im really getting mad at linux before i even have it installed.
I'm running 11.04 off of a 32gb flash drive. Something about grub on my install is messed up. When trying to boot after a normal shutdown, I get the following errors.
I think something about grubenv under /boot/grub is being corrupted. Loggin in under Ubuntu 10, I can make my way to the files on the 11.04 flash drive and issue the following commands to make it boot normally [URL]... file corruption happening? How can I fix it?
I have updated from 9.10 to 10.04 on line via Update Manager. Update Manager messed up my sources. Blocked most of them on update. I unblicked them and changed everything to Lucid from Karmic. No luck. Errors all the time:

Is there a way to stop GRUB2 from updating grub.cfg with new entries after an update? It shits me because it goes and writes over all my custom modifications of current entries.. e.g:
"Windows 7 Home Premium" (which I made), gets changed back to:
