General :: Installing A .tar.gz File - How To Get A Working Program From The .tar.gz File

Apr 22, 2010

I am running Ubuntu 9.10 and had hoped to use Synaptic to find and install Truecrypt. As Synaptic couldn't find it I downloaded it from [URL]. In case it helps the file is called "truecrypt-6.3a-linux-x86.tar.gz". Apart from not knowing how to get a working program from the .tar.gz file, I don't know whether the installation process sorts out where the file should go and puts it there, or whether I have to create a directory for it and put it there myself.

Ubuntu :: Installing Fonts From Exe File

May 14, 2011

I have clean installed my system to 11.04 and lost some important fonts of course. I am using specialist IPA fonts for some important documents, but the file is in exe form. However, I have that blocked executable bit problem. It's getting really annoying, as now many legitimate programs that I have can't be used on Linux anymore. All I need to do is extract the file and then let Ubuntu install the ttf (as it has done so in the past).

Ubuntu :: Downloaded ISO File - Errors While Installing

Unfortunately, I cannot recall the exact error but it stops the install. I will give further information later but wanted to ask if anyone has heard of this happening and if so, what the problems might be? I checked it with the MD5 and it appears to be a valid file, but the disk is giving me errors!

Ubuntu :: File Permissions Prevent From Installing New Fonts?

May 1, 2010

A tutorial says in order to add new fonts, take you font file and put them into a newly created directory inside your home folder and name it ".fonts". Reset and they will be ready to use.

I'm not able to do this from Nautilus View because of the error that I do not have permission to do so.

I have made the dir in terminal using sudo mkdir

moving the actual fonts from my desktop into the actual folder. I don't know how to do it.

Now I admit I'm not an Ubuntu expert but IIRC I've done a few tgz installs like this and they went fine.

Red Hat / Fedora :: Installing 12 From Iso File Without CD/DVD Or USB?

Dec 24, 2009

I have been using Ubuntu for some time now and am feeling up for a bit of a change but don't want to change completely. I thought of trying openSUSE or Mandriva out before but they didn't feel right and I have heard so much about Fedora I was thinking about trying that but since I don't have any discs and nor can I boot from USB, I started thinking about other ways of installing it to my laptop.

Is there any way I could mount it and add it to the grub/menu.lst so that the iso is loadable when I load into the Grub menu and I can continue its installation from there or, I have heard about a program called UNetbootin which can apparently do the job for, including downloading the .iso.

Ubuntu Installation :: UN-installing Using The Wubi-uninstaller File But That Did Not Work

Jul 20, 2010

I switched to Ubuntu about a month ago and have been loving every bit of it so far Today, I decided it was time to switch from having ubuntu installed within windows (through wubi) into creating a separate partition for itself.

I tried UN-installing using the wubi-uninstaller file but that did not work. Tried removing from the Add/Remove box in Windows 7 but neither wubi nor ubuntu were listed. SO I ended up manually deleting ubuntu from the C: and then using EasyBCD to remove Ubuntu from the boot menu. It may all sound great but I noticed that my hard disk is missing around 25GB of space. I even re-installed windows 7 but that hasn't changed this. It may well be that my hard disk is just old (~2 years) but I think it maybe because of an incorrect UN-install of wubi. Having read through forum posts around the interwebs all evening, this seems to be a problem that a few people share.

ps: I intend on installing Ubuntu again once this hard disk issue is resolved!

Ubuntu :: Installing 32-bit Tomcat6 On 64-bit Maverick / Build A 64-bit War File For Orktrack And Orkweb?

Apr 15, 2011

alright I have seen some threads on this but they are all old and seem to predate the "wisdom" of the "all" architecture on all the bloody ubuntu packages.

I went to the tomcat website which doesn't even have deb packages. Then I thought to search the ubuntu package repository, nothing seems to have i386 packages for me to install and then get the libs with getlibs. I HAVE to have a 32bit version of tomcat to run orkweb so I can record my phone calls on my voip line.

what would be really great is if anyone has or knows how to build a 64-bit war file for orktrack and orkweb since I have the source code
