Ubuntu :: Maximize Across Dual Screen?

Dec 20, 2010

I want to maximize across both of my screens. I am currently running twinview with lucid lynx. The previous build of Ubuntu let me maximize across both of my screens, but now when I maximize i just goes to one screen.

I tried doing a google search to see if I can figure it out and to my surprise the only thing I could find is people complaining because the maximize would go to both screens and not one.

Ubuntu :: White Window Screen On Maximize

Mar 19, 2011

Using Ubuntu 10.10.Recently updated to kernel 2.6.38.Strange problem.. all windows display fine when they are not minimized. But as soon as I minimize ANY window, all the contents are wiped out. All I get is a title bar with white window. This happens with every window e.g. browser, games, system windows, text pad etc.I am using Nvidia drivers. Could that be the problem?

Slackware :: KDE Black Screen On Maximize?

Jul 16, 2011

I'm running Slackware 13.37 64bit on an HP 2945 Laptop. KDE 4.5.5. I have a NVIDIA driver installed (270.41.06) and running KDE at 1200 x 800. I've upgraded to 13.37 about 2 months ago. I started noticing an issue with the windows in KDE pretty much upon start up. If I have multiple windows open and try to maximize a window or drag a corner of the window to a large size, the screen within the windows goes black. Also any menu in the windows goes black. If I resize back down the issue goes away. Or as stated before, if I have only one window open the problem doesn't exist.

Ubuntu :: Disable Window Maximize When Titlebar Dragged To Top Of Screen?

Apr 29, 2011

I just updated to 11.04. I tried to keep an open mind while using Unity, but I just couldn't deal with the totally unorganized application menu, so I switched back to the regular Gnome desktop. There's something that bugs me, though: when I drag the titlebar of a window up to the top of the screen, it maximizes the window, or more accurately, it "grows" the window depending on how far up I drag it, up to the maximum size of the screen. I don't have any desire to use this method to make my windows larger, and it also prevents me from dragging windows to the virtual desktop above the current one (I have edge-flipping turned on). How to disable this? I installed the compiz config manager installed but can't seem to find the right option.

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Generic Keyboard"
Driver "kbd"
Option "XkbRules" "xorg"
Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
Option "XkbLayout" "de"
Option "XkbVariant" "nodeadkeys"
EndSection .....

When I try to change the screen resolution via the gnome menu I just can choose the 640x480 resolution and 50Hz refresh rate.

Oct 3, 2010

I have the panel (taskbar) positioned on top. I then turned on "auto hide" in the panel properties (Gnome) to maximize the screen. The panel surely disappeared. The problem is that I cannot get it back no matter how much I hoover or click with the mouse - it is gone!...So how do I get it back??? I am rather new to Linux, but I figure that there should be a config file somewhere where I can set "auto hide" to false or something like this.

However, after going on XP, then going onto Ubuntu, the screen ahs gone black. Ubuntu :: 10.04 Installed Using Wubi - Random Black Screen

May 29, 2010

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 using Wubi. Everything works well, but randomly while I am working my screen will go black and say out of range or no signal. My monitor is a Planar, I have resolution and refresh rate set at factory specs and most of the time it is clear and working well. It seems to be completely random, sometimes it happens while surfing the web, other times I am using gimp, and sometimes I am not near the PC at all. I assume the problem is also the reason I can not use Compiz as well. (Graphics card is a intel 845).

Ubuntu Installation :: Live CD Installed No Bootloader Screen

Feb 27, 2011

I've been a casual Ubuntu user for a little over a year via Wubi. Wubi stopped working for me, failing to load Ubuntu, and instead giving me some console message about BusyBox 1.13.3 dropping into a shell. I poked around, and found posts by other wubi uses having a similar issue, and that a frequent recommendation was to install Ubuntu via Live CD; so I uninstalled Ubuntu from WindowsXP, made a LiveCD, and installed it.

I got to a point in the Live CD install where it wanted me to reboot. Instead I got a screen full of I/O errors, corresponding to a drv0 sector, or some such. I ended up using the reset button on the box. I was AFK during the reboot, so I don't know if a bootloader screen ever came up, but now it just loads WinXp with no choice to boot Ubuntu. From WinXp I can see the Live CD was successful in creating it's own partition (as WinXp has gone from 80 to 50GB as planned). Windows seems to be fine, though.

I searched the forums and found a thread from awhile back saying to create a new user and see if it persists. I tried that and it does the same thing in the new user. One in particular is gnucash. The program sometimes works but the tutorial does the white screen. I also reinstalled the package several times with no luck. Other packages do the same thing like thunderbird.

The first problem i face here is that I am unable to install Ubuntu using the normal gui mode.As soon as i select the option to install ubuntu the files starts loading and then the screen goes blank.. but the monitor is still live. So i installed ubuntu using the text based installer.. everything went fine, i installed the system and at boot loader i selected my Os but still the old demon comes in "Blank screen". I've tried all the related forums and tried all the options best to my knowledge, but its still the same.. I am not even able to get a command prompt/terminal. I know that this is a problem with my ATI (i can hear the sighs!!!!!) video card. Now I know that Ubuntu is being loaded cause i can hear the welcome sound of Ubuntu(drums sound).

Ubuntu :: Flashing Splash Screen Of Newly Installed Program

Nov 25, 2010

I have recently installed a program called IDA-STEP (manually off the web) on my Ubuntu 10.0.4 system. I unzipped the program folder to /usr/local/ida-step, and ran the executable to install (sudo ./ida-step) it. Now, every time I want to run the program I have to type "sudo ./ida-step" from within the folder to begin the program. However I also recently modified a copy of an existing *.desktop config file so that I can launch ida-step from the applications menu (and its in /usr/share/applications).

When I use this latter method to launch ida-step all I get is the programs initial splash screen flashing on and off (everything else in the background remains unaffected) - but the program never launches. I can replicate this behaviour if I launch the program in the terminal by typing "./ida-step" (rather than "sudo ./ida-step" which works fine).

Ubuntu Installation :: Freshly Installed System Freezes Just After Loading Screen

Jan 27, 2010

I recently upgraded from Hardy to 9.10 Kubuntu. The install went smoothly, and when I boot up, the loading screen (the one with the progress bar) does its thing. Then I see the 'waiting' cursor (in Kubuntu, the two dots chasing each other around in a circle). I see this for about two to three seconds, then the entire thing freezes up and I can't do anything, including switching to a virtual console. How do I figure out my system's dying words so I can figure out what's going wrong? As a (sort of) aside, when I open files in /var/log for reading with cat <file> | less, I have to Page-Down a whole bunch to get to the most recent stuff. Is there a way to jump to the bottom, or read with something other than what I have been using?
