View 1 RepliesI run apache on a non standard port(82).I just installed unity to play around with it and while I was playing with it I installed prixfixe through software center to edit the menus. While prixfixe was installing my computer was acting very slow which was odd, but not completely unusual.During this time I ran ps aux which showed that my apache server was taking up most of the processing power.I was about to stop my web server, but I waited just in case the web server was updating a few things (I run ampache).
My computer finished installing the software and then I ran some command with sudo (I can't remember what the command was), but it threw back some message saying "setid blabla". I restarted my computer and when I got to my gdm my normal user account did not show up. There were no accounts and the restart/shutdown buttons didn't work. Now I'm running on a livecd and checking out my apache access logs, apache error logs, and kernel logs, but nothing looks out of place..
I want to correct the English in a pdf. I load it in PDFedit, twiggle it, and press enter. But I get the error 'file is read only' I made sure the file was a whore, gave it permissions such that anyone could read or write it. Also in the PDFedit options I enabled 'allow editing of read only files' No joy!

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running Slack 13.1 [32 bit] Re: pdfedit from SlackBuilds 13.1. I've installed qt3 per the dependencies w/installpkg. I've pointed pdfedit.SlackBuilds to where qt3 is and it's found fine. The problem arises when the build can't find docbook stylesheets. "checking for docbook xsl... configure: error: unable to find docbook.xsl stylesheet"
I've installed docbook.xsl where it can be found which is in the same folder qt3 support is found and verified my system can find it there,, which it does. I still get the can't find stylesheet error. Is this a glitch or am I overlooking something somewhere along the line?
I have installed ubuntu 10, 3 weeks ago, and was wondering if there is a way to make, the min - max - close buttons slightly larger, as I've got a neurological problem, also how can I slow the mouse down.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhenever I use Ubuntu Tweak, clicking on "Unlock" does nothing. I've gotten around it by typing "sudo ubuntu-tweak" in Terminal, but I was wondering if there is something I can do to get it to work without that step. Also, Software Center won't let me install anything. Whenever I click on Install, nothing happens. If I type "sudo software-center" and then click the install button, it begins to install, but I get an error, and it discontinues. Does anyone know what I should do?

I deleted (by accident) the top panel in my Ubuntu 10.04 install. I got it back but I can't get the power button or the chat/user-name button back.
How would you get these things back on the panel?
I got home from work today and my laptop was being strange. normally when left for a while the screen locks so you have to enter your password to use it. when i came to it the screen was black, like normal, only there was no login box just the mouse curser, that i could move about. so i did the ctrl alt f1 thing and logged in then rebooted. booted up all ok but neither of my shift buttons work. they work in the main login when i first turn it on but after im logged in they do nothing. i tried selecting mutiple items with shift and that doesnt work either. i aint changed any settings or owt like that. does anyone know whats up with it and how i can fix it'questionmark' im using 10.04 on a dell inspiron 1525 laptop. when i log in as a guest the shift buttons work fine. what is it that i have thats stopping them from working 'questionmark'

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 as a dual partition with Windows 7 running alongside. I'm trying it out for almost over an hour, but this very unusual problem came up - after around 20 minutes while system is running, the mouse stops responding. its still working - it moves, the red light thingi is still on, but the buttons aren't responding.
it has the same symptoms every time - system runs for around 10-20 minutes, then left button stops working. 2 minutes later the right one joins as well, and from that moment its a matter of seconds till the mouse wheel won't respond too this has happened 3 times already, and last time it happened after a while the right button & the mouse wheel started working for about 2 minutes and then stopped responding again. do you guys have ANY clue what this is? am I pressing on a hotkey or something like that which is causing this thing?
I just installed Ubuntu on my new computer, after previously installing it on my laptop, and it worked flawlessly, except now that it's up and running, I realized that gnome is really screwed up. The panels and buttons are ugly, and all the applets on the panels are duplicated after I log in.

View 2 Replies View Relatedso i just got a nice hp keyboard from my dad (very slim) to use with my laptop and external monitor. it has a volume up key, a volume down key, and a mute key. the only problem is, the computer thinks they are actually letter keys. whenever i press volume up, it thinks i hit "b" and types that on the screen. the same goes for the other two buttons. is there anyway i can get them to function normally? everything else works.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have the keyboard: HP 6511-SU and it has a lot of buttons that would be useful to me; however, Ubuntu does not even recognize and does absolutely nothing with the majority of the buttons it has. The ones that it does pick up, it is mapped incorrectly (ex.: the media button, "stop" would be mapped to "eject". That's easily corrected by remapping it by going to System> Preferences> Keyboard Shortcuts. Is there a program or configuration file that will map the unrecognized buttons?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am running 9.10 (Karmic) on a Compaq Presario CQ60 laptop with Nvidia graphics. I have installed the -185 driver which has solved most problems. However every so often the system seems to lose track of the mouse button state. The first symptom of this is that all mouse movements on text are treated as if the left button is being held down: mouse movement selects text rather than just moving the graphics cursor. I am using a M$ optical mouse.
I have tried:unplugging and replugging the mouse using Ctl-Alt-F1 to go into a console and Ctl-Alt-F7 to go back to the GUI I am able to shut down all of the open windows normally using the keyboard, but the only way I have so far found to get the GUI working again is to reboot the system.
When I launch an app I get a little icon next to the Ubuntu logo which when pressed takes me back to the launcher but I have seemed to removed those little icons that let you switch between running apps, does anyone know how I get it back? I have tried:Window List/Picker/Selector but none of them look the same as what was there by default.

Well I was currently using Ubuntu 9.10 and up until just before the release of 10.04 it was allowing me to view what is now my problem. I attend an online school so this is a big problem for me. I can not view a course button that accesses my course. I was able to view these buttons a while ago in 9.10 but then I couldn't anymore and still can't in 10.04.
I tried results in Firefox, Opera and Konqueror and nothing is different. Here is a picture for what I am trying to show: [URL] The button should be in the lower left of that frame. It is not a website error because it works perfectly on my Windows box. Is there a quick fix like Javascript that is not showing correctly or something similar? AT first I thought it was a theme problem but I changed my theme and no different.
I don't like the window controls switch from right to left...made in 10.04. Easy script to move the buttons here. [URL]
