I setup a download directory on my server, and put a test video in it. I tried to run the video in my browser and it only runs part of the video then stops. If I download it and run it on my desktop with mplayer it run the full video. I am not sure why? Here is a link to the video. [URL]. I was having trouble getting php files to display properly on my ubuntu 10.10 LAMP setup. Everything was installed with defaults and working properly. testphp.php worked as long as it was in the sites parent directory, but any php files in user directories did not work. All browsers tried to download the php files located in /home/user/public_html instead. I tried to use the help documents here, [URL]..
Finally I was browsing around in the /etc/apache2/mods-available directory and looked at the php5.conf file. Here is the relevant information from the file:

i am currently using monkey webserver on my linux machine for my website. I just recently found out that you can also stream music if you direct the web address to a folder inside the directory. The problem is when i try to click on a .avi all it wants to do is download the video instead of playing it in the browser or playing it in windows media player. What can I do to make an .avi to stream from my linux machine ( note this is for private use only so i can stream movies on my lunch break or when I am at a friends house this is not to share my stuff to the general public)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to setup an SMF forum on a server running Ubuntu Hardy. The problem is that the website on the server was built using Django. So considering that Django uses Python and SMF uses PHP, would it be possible for both of these to coexist on the same server? If so, how? If this can't be done, I'm more than willing to rebuild the website in PHP. If I were to do this, then what do I need to do to reconfigure Apache? As of right now it's using mod_wsgi, but I'm assuming I would need mod_php. How would I set this up?

I'd like to use bittorrent for legitimate purposes (mainly linux distro based) but the powers that be have blocked access to bittorrent at my university. I have an ubuntu VPS that I use for odds and ends and was thinking that I could setup a SOCKS5 server on it. That way, I can input the SOCKS5 info directly into the proxy section of my local bittorrent application (Transmission 1.92 running on snow leopard) and be good to go. The problem, however, is that I cannot find a way to get a SOCKS server up and running on my VPS. I've heard that ssh can be used as a simple SOCKS server, but I've also heard that i may need to install a more complete SOCKS server such as dante. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to setup a Samba network share with a Fedora Directory Server backend. This will be used primarily for Windows users to authenticate before accessing the share. I am using Fedora Core 10 and have all of the latest updates installed. When I try to connect from a Windows machine, I am prompted for a username and password. I enter the username and password of the account I created in Fedora Directory Server in OU=People. The credentials are rejected. At the same time in the log file I see this:

Administrator is the user I created in Fedora Directory Server. If I perform an ldapsearch it will find the user as uid: Administrator so I know it is able to be looked up in FDS. But I'm guessing that's not the problem.

It sounds weird but on Linux I can't find a browser that allows to set a download speed limit. I found an extension for Firefox but it works only on Windows. I know the existence of download managers like d4x, wget, jdownloader, etc... but some downloads can only be done by browser. I know trickle too but if I want to change the speed limit I have to 'restart' the command (interrupting the current download). Then I didn't find an extension for Chromium.

The problem is whenever I start the download, I cannot access the internet via my web browsers, Chrome AND Firefox. Altho, I can use Pidgin or Empathy to communicate. Why should I do ? I am assuming it is causing some sorta congestion .. I tried giving the downloads "low" priority, applying temporary speed limits but it doesn't help.

Recently I tested download performance using www.speedtest.net. Using seamonkey on XP, i got 22 Mbps on my Comcast ISP. Not bad! However I then tried the same test on Fedora 12 with F12 seamonkey and got 16 Mbps. Thinking it must just be seamonkey, I tried the F12 Firefox and got 12 Mbps
This seems like a pretty big difference. I checked around on google and found several threads decying slower mozilla performance on Linux. I tried the suggestions to turn off ipv6 support, but there was not much improvement.
I can view a php page only with links browser (a text browser) But when i use firefox i got an error "Content encoding error"

I have default, default-ssl and projects in my /etc/apache2/sites-available directory. I haven't changed these files since I first created them. I haven't changed the permissions on any of the directories within /home/user/projects since I first set this up.
What can I do to access this directory from the address bar of a browser again?
I have installed apache2. i am not able to execute the perl script in the browser. i restarted the apache2 and found the following in the error log. Options ExecCGI is off in this directory: /var/www/cgi-bin/trypost.cgi File does not exist: /var/www/favicon.ico
i added the following lines in /etc/apache2/apache2.conf

I'm currently on LinuxMint. I'd like to start PHP scripting, but the browser doesn't want to open the file, only to download. I've red the description on Ubuntu's site how to bring apache2 and PHP together, but it simply cannot find php module. How on earth can I force Linux to act as a normal OS?

I only have two users at the new location so I simply have the linux and samba usernames/passwords setup manually. I would like to know if it is possible to setup a domain trust between the two sites so I don't have to create a username/password in the remote site for every user at the main office to access. I did some searching but came up empty.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI had that standard "Ubuntu Firefox Modifications" addon/extension in my browser and it turned out that one of the things it does is automatically manipulate the language settings in Firefox so that it reverts to a setting everytime firefox starts. So basically in my Ubuntu computer I am not allowed to change the preset of the language of my browser.
This is the item controlled by the "intl.accept_languages" line in about:config, which everytime it is changed (either by me or by a software) Ubuntu sneaks up and reverts the setting back, so that every time I restart/reopen Firefox I am back to square one. The thing is this wasn't the case until recently. I have no idea what happened or when or how but obviously I don't want it and I want to know how I can get back to the way it was.
