View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I freshly installed Kubuntu all was just fine.I was curious about how the netbook environment would look even though I am on a Desktop. So I tried it out and everything went fine.I switched back to the Desktop environment and noticed that the widget on my desktop, which normally shows the items of my desktop folder,changed into an icon I have to click first before I can see the content.I rather have it as if was when I installed Kubuntu.

When I position icons on the desktop in specific places, then I choose to move a file or folder into another folder, all the icons arrange back to the left side. This happened in an earlier version of KDE 4.x, disappeared the next version, and reappeared. how to keep this from happening. It makes using the desktop a pain in the you know what.

I unzipped the folder and then changed my directory to the unzipped folder. After that I used ./configure. After doing this, when I write make, it gives error and says no make file found. What can I do to solve this problem.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently installed virtual box on debian and after it had finished my terminal informed me that I could remove some "unnecessary" software by use of sudo apt-get autoremove. When I did this, some of the icons on the desktop changed and all of the icons in the drop down menu on the bar at the top of the screen also changed to ordinary folder symbols. The theme that I was using also went away. I restarted the computer and it booted back into a shell prompt with no GUI. I tried to get back to the GUI using alt+f7 but it didn't seem to exist

View 3 Replies View RelatedThere is some issue with the latest version of LinuxDC++ (version: 1.2.0~pre1~bzr Core version: 0.75). I have upgraded to the latest version a few days back from launchpad repos due to the frequent crashes and system hang-ups. My complete and incomplete downloads folder are same. While my download was going on, LinuxDC++ deleted all the files from the downloads folder.
After about half an hour of tweaking, I updated my database using updatedb, and found my files in ~/.dc++/Filelists/anantwqqwe.BMIU2NFCFXB7ERTSG62PRSQPRJIN63A56EEGO6Q . What does that supposed to mean and why its doing this way? This is the second time this has happened to me, the last time I was unable to locate the deleted files on my system and I suppose they were not there. I use 64-bit Ubuntu 10.10(maverick).

So I had this folder containing two open office text documents, I hibernated my computer a few times while I was working on one, then when I came back I couldn't save it because apparently it was open by someone else so I exited out and tried to open it again, but the folder it was stored in turned into a picture of a white safe with a play icon on the top right corner, and when I open it, it is just the picture.

How do I get it back to the default setting?
I accidentally changed etc., folder ownership, and now my computer doesn't even start up. I tried starting up in failsafe mode and changing the ownership from the root console, but somehow I wasn't allowed to do that. Then I loaded kubuntu from a live disk and I changed etc ownership to root. I thought that would clear up the mess, but apparently live disk's root is not equivalent to system's: when I try to start up the computer I get a message saying the filesystem is readonly. I'm not too concerned, because I have a complete backup, but I'd rather avoid the time of re-installing all my software again.

after this i cannot boot says cannot boot ,nautilus cant find home folder etc &more after doing alt-ctrl-f1 and doing login i can find my old home folder with all inside the point is how i can change to my old home folder -have to find the solution in order not to do format again i use ubuntu desktop edition on an acer aspire one netbook with ssd 8gb -

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Ubuntu Studio 10.10 and I was installing some programs the other night. After I had finished installing the programs, the folder icons (and their respective windows) changed to this god-awful beige colour. I'm using the "UbuntuStudio" theme which has these nice glossy blue folders by default, but they've changed as I said to this ugly colour that, quite frankly, sickens me.
I've gone into the Appearance Preferences and tried to work it out there, but no matter what I do, the folders never change.
If any of you know how I can fix this.
I figured I'd try out the Ubuntu Minimal install; I liked the concept of minimal distros like Arch-Linux (with a what-you-need-is-what-you-get type of system), but I really liked the community and general support of Ubuntu. Anyway, everything went fine after I got GRUB working properly, up to the point when I found that there were no subdirectories in my user's folder (Templates, Documents, Videos, etc).
I just decided to create the folders I needed. However, there were two issues I came across when doing this: The items in the 'Templates' folder don't show up in the context menu like they should More importantly, the icons for each folder would have to be manually changed for every new icon theme (if I wanted to use a new icon theme, I would have to navigate to the theme's folder every time for each icon I wanted changed) I'm not too concerned with the templates at the moment, but I was wondering how I would make these icons dependent on the current icon theme. Is there some package I missed installing?
By the way, if it makes a difference, I'm trying to set up the default Humanity icon set (well, not default for me, since I'm using Ubuntu Minimal). Also, sorry if this question has been posted before (or if I find the solution immediately after posting, which almost always happens to me), I didn't know exactly what to search for...
It might be obvious, but I can't figure it out. I would have thought you can just right-click and an option would be there to add to desktop, but I only see add to favorites. What am I missing?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI mistakenly moved the /home/user/Desktop file to another location so now when my desktop starts it used the entire contents of my /home/user/ directory (except for the hidden contents) to create icons all over my desktop.
I have restored the Desktop folder to the correct location but it ignores it now and continues to show every file under /home/user as an icon.
How do I reset it to point to the original Desktop folder?

I've recently acquire a new HDD and I've decided to use it for multimedia files.
So I've edited my fstab so it mounts this disk at startup.
What's more important, I've bind the folders in that disk (i.e. media/theDisk/Music) to a folder in my home directory (i.e. /home/me/Music) so I can have all the folder mounted at home (Mount the disk in /home/user is not possible because Nautilus start to whim about not being able to set some files in .nautilus or something, I believe its because it does not know which disk to save to or something like that)
So everything works fine, except for folder icons. When I open the home directory, all folders in the disk are shown with the Desktop default icon. Even if I change them (whether from home or from the mounted disk) the next time I open the home directory they are shown with the Desktop icon. Emblems are lost too.
Will it be possible in Unity to have file and folder icons on the desktop?

I tried both of the below "solutions" and logged out and logged back in to openSUSE and it still uses EasyTag! Is it because I need a restart or is it something else?
