For some reason, gtk-gnutella is not working for me in lucid. I've read up on it a bit, some people have said portforwarding might be the problem. I did that (even though I have never had to with previous releases) and it still doesn't work. So far I have tried 0.96.6, 0.96.7, and 0.96.8, none of them work with 10.04. Perhaps it is because you have to use the 2.0 front end rather than the 1.2 frontend which I used to compile it on previous releases.
I'm used to LimeWire. Very straightforward. gtk-gnutella has all these frames, windows, etc. Anyways, it's not connecting. Nicotine connects fine, but people say gtk-gnutella is better, as it has access to more.
My gtk-gnutella 0.96.6 apparently has become "ancient" and I cannot seem to find anything relevant inline. Would there be one line terminal command to update it? (I've never build something from files only)
Code: ibo@ibo-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get update gtk-gnutella [sudo] password for ibo: E: The update command takes no arguments ibo@ibo-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get gtk-gnutella E: Invalid operation gtk-gnutella ibo@ibo-laptop:~$
trying to install Limewire from Shell also found an RPM Source for Limewire, With several unsuccesful attempts to get Limewire launched past the spash screen, see below for my other ost on this problem.

I am looking for a good Gnutella alternate prefeerably a non Java Platform as it seems al my problems with Limewire & Google Earth are java related. I went to XFdrake downoaded Google earth installer, and it seemed to launch then after spash screen it closed down!
I could not get JAVA working in Lucid. Installed OpenJDK Java 6 Runtime and OpenJDK Java 6 Webstart from Ubuntu Software Center but no Java showed up in Firefox's about:plugins. After searching for hours in numerous forums (mostly dealing with sun-java) I got the idea that the web-browser plugin could be missing. And so I found the following solution:Install icedtea6-plugin With Synaptic Package Manager (or Icedtea java plugin from Ubuntu Software Center).
I had Samba shares (a public folder and a printer) running fine on Jaunty 9.10, when upgraded to 10.04 it stopped working.
I've tried several tips and following different threads to no avail.
when I run smbclient -L localhost or else smbclient -L 127.0.0.1 I get: Code: session setup failed: NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_DOMAIN when I run smbclient -L TKA I get: Code: Connection to TKA failed (Error NT_STATUS_CONNECTION_REFUSED) Now, when I browse the network, I see the TKANET group and my TKA box shows up.
In ubuntu client with 10.04 I get a message stating the place can not be mounted and that it failed to obtain the sharing list from the server. (something like that, my client computer is in spanish). In winxp I got:
\TKA is not accessible. You might not have permissions to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The network path was not found.
I installed samba4 but did't do any difference, so I uninstalled that. Reinstalled SAMBA and the config tool for samba several times. No difference.
my smb.conf file is attached as txt file. I couldn't post directly because the forum editor detects some lines as links to other sites .
I have recently upgraded from karmic to lucid (plain ubuntu using gnome).
Everything worked fine, but the characters now aren't anti-aliased any more
This is what I tried to fix the situation, unluckily without succeeding:
Used the regular option pane from System->Preference->Appearance->Font (smoothing, hinting...) Edited the .fonts.conf file Disinstalling (and then re-installing) the mstcorefont package Changing the default Sans font to a font of my liking (e.g. Tahoma) from the abovementioned Appearance options
My ubuntu installation is quite standard, with the typical add-ons one might wish for usability. I used the ubuntu start script to make a few tweaks.
I upgraded from Karmic to Lucid yesterday and today today I've noticed that I can no longer apt-get update through the terminal. I'm behind a corporate firewall, so up till now I've always exported the proxy address like so:
Code: export http_proxy=http://user:password@address:port This hasn't worked under Lucid. I did some searching and found that Lucid did away with
I am having some problems with taking screenshots in Lucid while desktop effects are enabled. If I disable desktop effects, the screenshot works fine, but if they are enabled, no matter what windows are open, it only ever shows my wallpaper and the mouse pointer, no panels, icons, windows.
I am using the older 190.42 nvidia drivers if that makes a difference.
i was recently running the latest xubunto, and decided to upgrade when the upgrade manager offered me however ever since vie upgraded my sound no longer works neither does wine. I have reinstalled wine but nothing has happened but i am at a loss of what to do with the sound. It used to work with no extra configuration before the upgrade i am running a dell inspiron 530.
After upgrading my wife's machine from Karmic to Lucid 64bit, USB drives will not automount and do not show in Nautilus. If I lsusb the drive is shown. I have tried several things - installing hal, removing the legacy floppy in the BIOS, sudo modprobe -r floppy and rebooting but nothing works.
I have tried with several flash drives, all work and automount on my computer (a clean install of Lucid) but none will work on the upgraded machine.
I've got a generic USB keyboard (not wireless) that works perfectly on WinXP, the BIOS and the GRUB boot menu. As soon as Ubuntu 10.04 loads, however,he keyboard stops working. Tried different ports, still nothing. I haven't tested on previous versions of Ubuntu or other Linux distros. A PS/2 keyboard works great on Ubuntu except the one I have is broken, hence why I'm using this USB keyboard. Any ideas on how to fix this? It's the only thing holding me back from leaving Windows for good. lsusb:Quote:

I have been using netatalk to use my old LaserWriter PS 4/600 with Kubuntu.verything was fine until I upgraded to Lucid. Now, when I go to restart netatalk, I get
Code: user@machine:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/netatalk restart Restarting Netatalk Daemons (this will take a while)Stopping Netatalk Daemons: afpd cnid_metad papd timelord
I've been installing and uninstalling POedit 1.4.2-5build0.1 Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.POedit is installed but it loads for around 10 seconds and then just go away.I'm installing it using Synaptic
I was running a small LAMP setup on my homenetwork with Ubuntu 9.4. Every thing was working OK. I then upgraded to 10.04 and now my php does get executed. Apache is still working, but I suspect something in the config has changed, but I don't know what. When I try to load a .php file, the resultant web page is just blank, if I have a .html file with php code in it, the page is not rendered from the point where the php starts. I have checked /var/log/apache2/error.log and there is nothing in that file.
I upgraded from Karmic to Lucid RC a couple of days ago and have been trying to work through a few problems since. One of these problems is printing with my Brother DCP506CN printer which was working in Karmic. However, I just can't seem to get it going in Lucid. I have followed the Brother linux install procedure, which worked for the the last few Ubuntu releases, but not for this one it seems.
I'm doing an install for a friend, the machine is a Gateway with AMD Turion64. The install required the 64 bit version of Lucid 10.04 RC. When I try to install the NVIDIA hardware driver, upon reboot, it flickers, fails, and tells me to use low-setting graphics mode.
I recently downloaded the Lucid ISO from the ubuntu torrents and installed it toa usb drive using Unetbootin. I restart my computer, use the bios setup to boot from usb, I boot, but when the system starts, I can't use the touchpad. the model is a synaptic touchpad
i'm really frustrated with ubuntu the last little while. i thought things would be better but its hard to stay optimistic when nothing works. My wife's laptop an MSI A6000-029US has an nVidia chipset [MCP79 (rev b1) according to lspci in lucid].i expected the RaLink RT3090 not to work out of box.. but the Ethernet controller for the wired connection doesn't work either.i can't get this thing online to update it. the syslog says:
Code: Apr 30 04:13:39 msilappy NetworkManager: <info> (eth0): carrier now ON (device state 2) Apr 30 04:13:39 msilappy NetworkManager: <info> (eth0): device state change: 2 -> 3 (reason 40) Apr 30 04:13:39 msilappy kernel: [ 402.001626] eth0: link up.
After upgrading from Karmic to Lucid, no wireless networks are found on my computeran acer travelmate 5510. On Karmic, wifi worked flawlessly "out of the box"no windows drivers or anything needed. I have checked under Administration/hardware drivers; it tells me "no proprietary drivers are in use on this system." Cabled internet access through my wifi router works fine. How to get wifi up and running under Lucid. Despite having used Karmic for a while, I am relatively new to the inner workings of Ubuntu / linux systems, and really don't know where to go from here.
User switching doesn't work for me anymore since upgrading to Lucid. When I choose "Switch From <user>..." in the logout menu on the top-right of my screen, it jumps to the login screen (gdm) but it doesn't show any usernames as it should.I wish I could get a screenshot of gdm but I'm not sure how.
I'm a newcomer to Ubuntu. Have struggled with 9.04 and managed to get my Canon MP620 to work in that version. Now I have upgraded to 10.04 and have problems to get my printer to work again.
i upgraded to lucid, but now my video has stopped working... videos and iplayer work fine. the problem is with any videos (mp4, flv) opened in vlc or mplayer. i can hear sound fine but the screen is black. the same happens in skype. i followed the comprehensive guide and did all the steps, but no joy.
I installed Kubuntu 10.04 and wanted to try if, finally, ibus works. I installed ibus and ibus-anthy from repository (I need the japanese input), then I launched Ibus preferences from the menu, set it, and the icon appears in the kickbar. But nothing happens if I press ctrl-space. Same problem there was on 9.10.I also added the lines to the home/.bashrc as the popup says.
In Lucid I cannot get CPU scaling to work anymore, in previous Ubuntu releases this was not a problem with the same hardware (AMD Phenom 9500 Quad). I used to load module 'powernow-k8' and 'powernowd' to make it work, but it seems 'powernow-k8' is not available in Lucid. Anyone who has cpu scaling working in Lucid?
