Ubuntu :: Shift + Numbers Not Working For Lucid?

I have this compaq nc6220 laptop. Installed Lucid.
I can't get the [!@#$%^&*()_+] characters when I press the shift key.

Fedora :: Numbers Lock Turn Off When First Press Shift Key
Feb 9, 2010You will not believe that. Such crazzy thing! When I first press the Shift key (in KDE session), the Numbers Lock function (LED) turn off. Then I have to press NumLock key twice to turn it on. First press has no effect. Second turn it on.
And another strange thing. I can disable this strange efect, if I manually turn NumLock off an then on.
I thing, I will rename Fedora to Pandora. Because there is more that little strange things. About 12 I counted. But there is no time and place to write all 12. Maybe another day.

Aug 22, 2010I have just dual booted ubuntu 10.04 onto my computer with windows 7 and so far i cannot get my shift key to work on my 64-bit computer. all my other keys work except for that key. could someone please tell me how to fix this little problem.

Jun 10, 2010I got home from work today and my laptop was being strange. normally when left for a while the screen locks so you have to enter your password to use it. when i came to it the screen was black, like normal, only there was no login box just the mouse curser, that i could move about. so i did the ctrl alt f1 thing and logged in then rebooted. booted up all ok but neither of my shift buttons work. they work in the main login when i first turn it on but after im logged in they do nothing. i tried selecting mutiple items with shift and that doesnt work either. i aint changed any settings or owt like that. does anyone know whats up with it and how i can fix it'questionmark' im using 10.04 on a dell inspiron 1525 laptop. when i log in as a guest the shift buttons work fine. what is it that i have thats stopping them from working 'questionmark'

Now the quirk is.. the 'Home', 'End', 'PageUp' & 'PageDn' keys on the numpad do work in Ubuntu (They double up as 7, 1, 9 & 3 respectively, when Numlock is turned on), but what doesn't is Shift + 'Home', 'End', 'PageUp' or 'PageDn'.. Is there a setting to do this? I just have gotten used to it in Windows (for say, easily removing the typed in URL on a web-browser, using the keyboard), it seems like alls' lost without it

May 3, 2011I have been enjoying 11.04, upgraded from 10.10, for the past few days without any problems. Today my left shift button stopped working, or at least changed its behavior. I am using the usa keyboard layout and have not had any problems prior to the 11.04 upgrade. I have also tried creating a new user and changing to ubuntu classic. The problem with the left shift key persists through all of these changes.

Oct 16, 2010I'm running Kubuntu 10.10, with KDE 4.5.2, what I've noticed is every so often my Tab, Caps, Shift, Ctrl, Alt, Super keys stop working. I'd been running Ubuntu 10.04 with Gnome and hadn't ever come across this issue. I'm not sure if this is related to KDE 4.5.2 or is possibly because I updated to 10.10 and would also occur on a Gnome environment.If I switch to my virtual machine (VMWare Workstation 7.1.2 build-301548 which I was able to get working on 10.10 using URL.... the keys work within that but if I switch back to my host desktop they stop working.To fix it I've found logging out or unplugging the keyboard and plugging it into a different USB port fixes it.

Jun 15, 2010For some reason, gtk-gnutella is not working for me in lucid. I've read up on it a bit, some people have said portforwarding might be the problem. I did that (even though I have never had to with previous releases) and it still doesn't work. So far I have tried 0.96.6, 0.96.7, and 0.96.8, none of them work with 10.04. Perhaps it is because you have to use the 2.0 front end rather than the 1.2 frontend which I used to compile it on previous releases.

May 21, 2010I had Samba shares (a public folder and a printer) running fine on Jaunty 9.10, when upgraded to 10.04 it stopped working.
I've tried several tips and following different threads to no avail.
when I run smbclient -L localhost or else smbclient -L 127.0.0.1 I get:
Code: session setup failed: NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_DOMAIN when I run smbclient -L TKA I get:
Code: Connection to TKA failed (Error NT_STATUS_CONNECTION_REFUSED) Now, when I browse the network, I see the TKANET group and my TKA box shows up.
In ubuntu client with 10.04 I get a message stating the place can not be mounted and that it failed to obtain the sharing list from the server. (something like that, my client computer is in spanish). In winxp I got:
\TKA is not accessible. You might not have permissions to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The network path was not found.
I installed samba4 but did't do any difference, so I uninstalled that. Reinstalled SAMBA and the config tool for samba several times. No difference.
my smb.conf file is attached as txt file. I couldn't post directly because the forum editor detects some lines as links to other sites .
General :: Antialias Not Working In Ubuntu Lucid 10.04
May 2, 2010I have recently upgraded from karmic to lucid (plain ubuntu using gnome).
Everything worked fine, but the characters now aren't anti-aliased any more
This is what I tried to fix the situation, unluckily without succeeding:
Used the regular option pane from System->Preference->Appearance->Font (smoothing, hinting...) Edited the .fonts.conf file Disinstalling (and then re-installing) the mstcorefont package Changing the default Sans font to a font of my liking (e.g. Tahoma) from the abovementioned Appearance options
My ubuntu installation is quite standard, with the typical add-ons one might wish for usability. I used the ubuntu start script to make a few tweaks.

Apr 30, 2010I am having some problems with taking screenshots in Lucid while desktop effects are enabled. If I disable desktop effects, the screenshot works fine, but if they are enabled, no matter what windows are open, it only ever shows my wallpaper and the mouse pointer, no panels, icons, windows.
I am using the older 190.42 nvidia drivers if that makes a difference.

May 16, 2010After upgrading my wife's machine from Karmic to Lucid 64bit, USB drives will not automount and do not show in Nautilus. If I lsusb the drive is shown. I have tried several things - installing hal, removing the legacy floppy in the BIOS, sudo modprobe -r floppy and rebooting but nothing works.
I have tried with several flash drives, all work and automount on my computer (a clean install of Lucid) but none will work on the upgraded machine.

May 17, 2010I've got a generic USB keyboard (not wireless) that works perfectly on WinXP, the BIOS and the GRUB boot menu. As soon as Ubuntu 10.04 loads, however,he keyboard stops working. Tried different ports, still nothing. I haven't tested on previous versions of Ubuntu or other Linux distros. A PS/2 keyboard works great on Ubuntu except the one I have is broken, hence why I'm using this USB keyboard. Any ideas on how to fix this? Jul 25, 2010I was running a small LAMP setup on my homenetwork with Ubuntu 9.4. Every thing was working OK. I then upgraded to 10.04 and now my php does get executed. Apache is still working, but I suspect something in the config has changed, but I don't know what.When I try to load a .php file, the resultant web page is just blank, if I have a .html file with php code in it, the page is not rendered from the point where the php starts. I have checked /var/log/apache2/error.log and there is nothing in that file.
