Ubuntu Multimedia :: Gtk-gnutella Not Connecting
Jul 9, 2010
I'm used to LimeWire. Very straightforward. gtk-gnutella has all these frames, windows, etc. Anyways, it's not connecting. Nicotine connects fine, but people say gtk-gnutella is better, as it has access to more.

For some reason, gtk-gnutella is not working for me in lucid. I've read up on it a bit, some people have said portforwarding might be the problem. I did that (even though I have never had to with previous releases) and it still doesn't work. So far I have tried 0.96.6, 0.96.7, and 0.96.8, none of them work with 10.04. Perhaps it is because you have to use the 2.0 front end rather than the 1.2 frontend which I used to compile it on previous releases.

My gtk-gnutella 0.96.6 apparently has become "ancient" and I cannot seem to find anything relevant inline. Would there be one line terminal command to update it? (I've never build something from files only)
Code:
ibo@ibo-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get update gtk-gnutella
[sudo] password for ibo:
E: The update command takes no arguments
ibo@ibo-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get gtk-gnutella
E: Invalid operation gtk-gnutella
ibo@ibo-laptop:~$

Not the best idea to dive into the Linux world on my first ever HTPC build. Anyway, here I am. I am trying to connect my computer with a fresh copy of Ubuntu 10.04 to an older CRT TV. My video card has (2) DVI ports as well as an S-Audio port. The TV has S-Audio and the white-yellow-red RCA's. I bought an S-Audio cable today but I cannot get the "detect monitor" option in system>preferences>monitor to detect anything other than the actual monitor I also have hooked up at the moment. I haven't even begun to focus on audio yet, but I expect that to be much smoother than the video side of it.
PC specs just in case:
Gigabyte P35-DS3L
Intel E8400
Generic (2) 2GB RAM
XFX 8800gts Alpha Dog
Razer Barracuda AC-1
WD 500GB

I recently installed XBMC and Boxee on my Linux laptop, but neither of them are connecting to the internet. Since I'd like to try XBMC first, I'll talk about that here. When I run the program, I do not have a Live TV icon or link on the side. I can see my Music, Programs, Settings, Pictures, Video and Weather links on the sidebar, but my Weather page is blank as in I do not see any weather forecasts or whatever else ought to be on that page. I thought that maybe since I was running XBMC as a user there might be some permissions issues, so I ran "sudo xbmc" and received an error message "Do_Wait: DRMWaitBlank returned -1, IRQs Don't Seem to be working correctly. Try adjusting the vBlank_mode configuration parameter." No idea what that means. I've tried connecting both via Ethernet and my WiFi.

Just upgraded to Lucid (32bit), pulse generally seems to work ok: I get sound out, I can see various apps connecting via the Sound Preferences dialog (audacious, flash via alsa interface, etc.), and my mic seems to work fine too.
However, when starting skype (v2.1.0.81 which defaults to pulseaudio if it's running), it isn't able to output any sound and I never see a connection appear in Sound Preferences. Don't really want to force it to use Alsa or anything like that; I'd be fine with pulse if it would just work.
I've tried installing the .deb from the skype site as well as the official ubuntu package, with the same result. Any idea why pulse seems to be working, but skype can't seem to use it properly?

I'm trying to get audio from a keyboard into my computer. I have a 1/8' to 1/4' adapter, and I can hear the sound from the other end when I connect my earphones to the keyboard, but if I connect it to my computer's microphone port, it doesn't even recognize something connected there. Sound preferences tell me that there are two microphones connected (two built-in microphones), and so does Jack. How do I get it to detect the keyboard? I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit, if that's of any relevance.
[edit] I also tried connecting this computer to another computer (i.e. Speakers are connected to computer 2, a 1/8' cable goes from the speaker's earphone socket and into computer 1's microphone in). I expected the sound produced by computer 2 to go to computer 1 like regular microphone input would, but it still didn't detect anything and persisted in telling me that there are only two sound inputs on the computer.

The latest version of Spotify incorporates a social networking part, which allows you to connect with your friends to share playlists etc. However, accessing this feature using Ubuntu and running Spotify with Wine isn't the easiest thing to do. Regular Spotify works well, but I cannot login to my Facebook account. Apparantly, this is due to that part of Spotify using IE7 components.
I couldn't get past the diaglogue box asking me to enter usr/pass, but after some googling I got IE7 support for Wine running using Winetricks. Now I can log in, but I get stuck at another point: the window where I'm to accept that Spotify accesses my private information. I click OK but then it just stands still, loading, and nothing happens. I know the new version just came out, how to fix it? Perhaps adding some other stuff with Winetricks beside IE7 support?

I have been using Ubuntu for almost one year or so. I use to have a good experience with it. But, since last few days I have been experiencing something nuance with my Ubuntu and most particularly the Exaile player. It use to connect to the Shoutcast server fine. But, these days I can't connect it. Everytime I try to connect it; it shows the message, "Error connecting shoutcast server". I have tried reinstalling it along with the normal plugins that use to work fine. But nothing seems working.

Got a problem with the plasma network management widget. Let's say I connect to a wireless network at my office called "Network A". I then go home and try connecting to my wireless network, "Network B". Assume each has WEP encryption. When I click on my home network, the wallet-manager pops up first. I enter my password. I then see that instead of adding a new network, it has "Network A" selected for editing. This happens every single time. What is going on here? I don't want a bunch of posts naming WICD either. I want to use the plasma widget because I like it. So what's up with it overwriting other network connections when you try adding a new one?

I created a Live CD with Ubuntu 10.4 Desktop, in which everything seems to work except Firefox, or internet connections in general. I've tried several other Linux distros with the same results. The DSL modem is on and working (USB Westell Wirespeed duel connect modem), works with Windows XP (native OS on this computer) but not with this live cd.
Ive been inside the network manager, and have only one connection setup which is DSL and automatically connect. But when it looks for a connection, none is found (the tab on the upper right corner of the desktop with the exclamation mark).
The live cd connects at work, but it's through a server and connected to that via ethernet, so that's a completely different setup.
I've seen countless other instances of connectivity issues, and it all seems to involve hours of testing, command line editing, and other things that more often than not produce no results.

I am trying to run a script before starting to connect to a vpn (when clicking in the network manager applet). I googled: if-down.d if-post-down.d if-pre-up.d if-up.d But couldn't find any good info, only bug reports. And as I understand those will run when an interface (which one?) is upped|etc... I need to run the script BEFORE the vpn starts because it uses the command "host" and if the vpn has already started I cant access internet. The script setup routes for a list of host, so I would need to run another script to remove them after disconnecting the vpn or my normal connection wont work.

I have configured Ubuntu 10.04 to work on a Windows XP network that has 2 other XP desktops (wired to same router). Ubuntu sees the icons for each computer in the "network" tab of "places" and can access the shared files 1 of those desktops, no problem, but trying to access the other one gets the error "Unable to mount location-failed to retrieve share list from server" I have checked the XP computers and can't find what may be different about them.

i think i'm some of the way there to connecting to PostgresSQL- i dont know what it is or what it does but it is required for another program that i want to run. anyway when i run the program i get the error: "unable to connect to this database, please check the configuration". i am not entirely sure what the problem is and this might be a bigger problem than i am capable of dealing with right now as my skills in operating the terminal are not that great. so i have set up a new user and password by the terminal which im pretty sure i have done correctly.

I have 10.10 32 bit and 64 bit live CDs. Using the 32 bit, I can easily connect to my wireless router. However, the 64 bit CD, while recognizing the wireless connection, will not connect. My computer is 64 bit capable (I ran Karmic and Lucid using 64 bit). I have a 802.11 WiFi using the rt2800pci driver. Any ideas on how to get the wireless working for 10.10 64 bit? I would like to install it, just leery of wireless problems.

Now I know that the VNC connection isn't good with security, but when you spend about 3 bucks on this software, you want it to work. Anyway, the Hipporemote sees my computer, but when I try to connect to it it keeps on saying that it doesn't have a VNC server installed, which it is by the way. how You installed or got this app working in ubuntu 10.10?
