Ubuntu :: Get The "original Camera Data" That Is Attached To Each Photo Jpeg?
Jul 2, 2011
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and a Sony H-5 dig. camera. Downloaded 700 photos using F-Spot and they're all visible but unable to get the individual photo jpeg data?
1. How do you get the "original camera data" that is attached to each photo jpeg? I must be missing a plug-in? Or?
2. Not possible to right click and copy these photo's out of F-Spot into a new folder?
I have this problem with my Canon powershot A630. I connected it to the computer via USB. Ubuntu detects it, ask me if i want to use nautilus or f-spot to see the pictures in the SD card (it says that there are photgraphs in the media), so i go for "open folder" option, and the window shows up totally empty. Te only file i see in the card is ".fir" extension wich i use for upgrading the camera firmware. I know there are pictures in the sd card because i can see them using the camera.
I've got a strange issue. I used without problem my Olmypus camera with oS 11.2 and older but sinds 11.3 and the new KDE, nothing happens anymore when I plug my camera: nothing appears in the device notifier, nor in Dolphin. It did in the past, with oS 11.2 and KDE 4.3.x. But, in IceWM, with Dolphin and Digikam it does work (it appears like a USB stick). Not in KDE with the same applications. What I wrote in the bug report:
Steps to Reproduce: 1.Plug your digital photo camera in a USB port 2.Optional: open Dolphin Actual Results: Nothing happens
I need to be able to open a photo manager and scan directly from within the program without opening a separate app. Is there one that does? I just installed Mint on my daughters laptop. Wow! I'm impressed. I tried a some Linux distros a few years ago and although I liked the idea, I just couldn't find one that impressed me. Things have changed since then! I tried 2 or 3 distros this past week and they all beat the pants off any version of Win... that I've used. I'm so impressed that I am now considering installing on my machine if I can find software replacements. If not, I may still do it and run Virtualbox when I need to. I need to start with the photo manager.
i just fixed my old-ish laptop (pop accident) and instead of putting window on it my dad talked me into trying ubuntu out, gotta say love it, fast and everything but having major problems. i have a lenovo 3000 v200. everything is the same as out of the box except the keyboard, only thing i really needed to replace. ok problems
1) wireless is not working: i have the switch on (side of the laptop) and bluetooth lights up but wireless doesnt. (Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG). now i just learned about 'rfkill list' it shows that there is a soft block on the wireless. tried " rfkill unblock 0" nothing happened. also when i tried finding out wat kernel im using " uname-r" to find out more on why its not unblocking, the CLI says "comand isnt found" next two problems are small but are still frustrating
2) built in camera: the green light is on next to the lens but when trying to test the camera on skype or a photo program the video feed/ picture is black, or blank. not sure what i can do to fix that.
3) fingerprint scanner: yes i have one, i know its not efficient but I still like using it to login in instead of typing. im not sure how to get linux/ubuntu to recognize it if it even is. not sure how to set it up if it is recognized.
i would like to fix the wireless more than anything, if i can fix the camera and scanner then yeay, otherwise i can survive. oh and note i did try using the "additional drivers" app. nothing popped up.
I just installed natty. I use Deja dup to backup my photos to the server in my basement, but now I can't find them. I really cant understand why theyre gone, but they are, maybe because I'm unorganized. Anyways, my hard drive may not be totally overwritten. Can i rescue my old data, or at least parts of it? How?
i'm wondering if it's possible to restore the original image file that you have hidden data in with steghide. The basic Idea is you have a photo using gpg sign it and then embed the signature. then remove the signature at a later time and check it with the signature. I hope another "inverse" algorithm doesn't need to be written to undo the first (if a "inverse algorithm is possible). This assume you already have the pass phrase or that there is no pass phrase. I already know how to retrieve the original file just want to remove the hidden data from the Image and restore it's attributes.
1 is the first partition so windows finds it nicely. Before install, i unplugged my hdds so that grub wouldn't get confused. I told the installer to put the full install on sda3 with no swap space. I checked (advanced button on summary page) that bootloader is being installed to the usb on dev/sda (sda since no other drives attached). This should put it in the MBR (i think?)
Seems like I pressed all the right buttons huh? Is there a way to diagnose grub and see what's wrong? is there a reason grub may not initialize properly from a usb drive?
I just tried to burn an ISO to a CD-R in K3B, and it finished with the message "written data in track 1 differs from original." I get that a lot; until now, I blamed it on my failing CD drives . What can I do to avoid it besides burning at a slow speed? I know that, having heard years ago that I should burn at 4x; but my new DVD-RW burner's slowest writing speed is 16x. (I'm annoyed at that. It was a Christmas gift, and I didn't think of specifying a write speed. I wouldn't be surprised if new CD drives can't burn at such a slow speed, though.)
I was looking to iphone and i was surprised the quality of such tiny camera.
Is there any alternative camera for my laptop to have similar or much better then the one in iphone? So that i can use it from my laptop, but have very sharp HD quality with maximum megapixel + highest frame per second.
I have acquired a MDV 001 Mini Video Camera that works very well with UBUNTU. I want to transfer the recorded data from my PC to CD/DVD but the problem I have is, the camera records in AVI format but my video player can only handle JPEG. any conversion program AVI to JPEG which I could use.
Gimp gives me an error saying i haven't got the jpeg plugin but i save images all the time as jpg's so what is going on? I had a look in synaptic and i can't pin point which plugin i am supposed to get.
I was wondering what is available in the Linux world that would allow me to combine two or more jpegs into one grid-based image. I want to upload some images to an online auction and would like to combine them beforehand.
Haven't looked through Synaptic Package Manager yet.
I met a guy who is going about with a thermal imaging device. He wants to remove the watermark from the images and tells me that the software developed by the company can do this using only the jpeg. Unfortunately it's only available for windows. I'm dubious that this is possible, but I have to admit I'm not extremely well versed in image manipulation. Is it possible to extract the unadulterated image from a copy with the watermark and other data on it?
Somewhere along the line I have managed to get the below error when loading a jpeg in the gimp (either with 'open with' on context menu or directly)Running as an unprivileged user
Code:
Calling error for procedure 'file-jpeg-load':

This happens on a system running 10.04 / 64-bit. As I seem to recall a recent gimp update (might be wrong), I checked a 32-bit 10.04 laptop and it does not show the behavior. For information: the 64-bit system has some additional stuff installed for image processing (ufraw and darktable) but I have been using this already for a while without issues. The other main change on this 64-bit system before I noticed the problem was the installation of a geforce 8400 video card including the 'nomodeset' option in grub and install of the latest driver from the nvidia website. verify that the gimp on a 64-bit system is still functioning.Further a 'repair' from within synaptic throws the following error
Code:
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/gimp_2.6.8-2ubuntu1.2_amd64.deb: subprocess dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile returned error exit status 2
Note: I found some messages regarding this problem on the web but they were referring to older kernels (2.6.8); and people reverted back to an even older kernel. And yes, there have been a recent kernel upgrade.
I am using the following command to create a video of a bunch of jpeg files. The problem is that some of the jpegs are portrait and others are landscape. Ffmpeg is stretching the portrait images. Is it possible to maintain aspect ratio of the jpegs... perhaps put black bars on the portrait images using ffmpeg?
I use GIMP to edit pictures. When I cut part of one picture and put onto another picture, I try to save it as a jpeg, but it says "You must export image before you can save- JPEG Plug-In can't handle transparency." Is there another plug in that allows me to do this?
Also on a GIMP related subject, how can I set the eraser tool to transparency instead of white/other colors?
Having trouble handling JPEG-2000 files. Message says I need some plugin. I've checked in Synaptic and there are a couple of packages installed by default that mention JPEG 2000 but obviously I need something else. Any ideas?
I've successfully compiled and installed PHP to run with nginx. But I could not use some jpeg functions from GD library. I've checked for libjpeg-devel and gd-devel and found that they had been installed, libjpeg.so is located at /usr/lib This is my configure command:
I am trying to make a script which will analyze jpeg images taken from a webcam. i can get a image easily enough but i can't figure out a way to get the images average brightness as a number.
I'm trying to open jpeg attachments in Thunderbird in Fedora 13, by choosing Gimp 2.6. I browse to Gimp in /etc and there are a number of files in the folder.
Could you please help with the correct path to Gimp to open the attachment jpegs as I am unable to open them at present.
Given a matrix with 0,1 entries, how can I create a graphic in linux such that we have a black square or pixel if the entry is one and white otherwise?
For example, if the matrix is:
0001000 0011100 0111110 0000000
then I want a graphic that looks like:
[code]....
I will be working with many large matrices, e.g. 1000x1000, or 5000x1000 so I need to do this automatically.
