Ubuntu Multimedia :: After Gstreamer-properties Video Edit No Control Of Xwindows?
Feb 16, 2011I'm not sure this is the cause, but after I changed the properties of gstreamer, by following a fix on VLC freezing during video playback, I cannot control my desktop anymore.Luckily I can still switch windows thanks to docky. Unfortunately I cannot change the tab in the gstreamer-properties so I can reset my change. I changed the video from default to X11.How can I edit it manually from the command line?

Apr 6, 2011I have a Gateway NV53 with a built in webcam.Now my issue is, it DOES work, but is there a program or software available that would allow me to edit the live graphical feed of the camera? For example, on Windows the webcam software allows me to edit the saturation, contrast, brightness, etc the levels of it while I'm giving off a live feed.So while I'm on webcam 0 can basically change the saturation level while I'm on skype and go from live in color to live in black and white? Is there a rogram available to UBuntu that would allow me to do the same thing?SO that if I'm doing a live feed of my webcam I can basically change how much color I am in etc.I'm running ubuntu 10.10 if that matters

Jan 25, 2010I have this problem with my Canon powershot A630. I connected it to the computer via USB. Ubuntu detects it, ask me if i want to use nautilus or f-spot to see the pictures in the SD card (it says that there are photgraphs in the media), so i go for "open folder" option, and the window shows up totally empty. Te only file i see in the card is ".fir" extension wich i use for upgrading the camera firmware. I know there are pictures in the sd card because i can see them using the camera.

I used without problem my Olmypus camera with oS 11.2 and older but sinds 11.3 and the new KDE, nothing happens anymore when I plug my camera: nothing appears in the device notifier, nor in Dolphin. It did in the past, with oS 11.2 and KDE 4.3.x. But, in IceWM, with Dolphin and Digikam it does work (it appears like a USB stick). Not in KDE with the same applications.What I wrote in the bug report:

General :: Photo Manager To Import From Scanner Or Camera
Feb 12, 2011I need to be able to open a photo manager and scan directly from within the program without opening a separate app. Is there one that does? I just installed Mint on my daughters laptop. Wow! I'm impressed. I tried a some Linux distros a few years ago and although I liked the idea, I just couldn't find one that impressed me. Things have changed since then! I tried 2 or 3 distros this past week and they all beat the pants off any version of Win... that I've used. I'm so impressed that I am now considering installing on my machine if I can find software replacements. If not, I may still do it and run Virtualbox when I need to. I need to start with the photo manager.

Mar 15, 2011i just fixed my old-ish laptop (pop accident) and instead of putting window on it my dad talked me into trying ubuntu out, gotta say love it, fast and everything but having major problems. i have a lenovo 3000 v200. everything is the same as out of the box except the keyboard, only thing i really needed to replace.
ok problems
1) wireless is not working: i have the switch on (side of the laptop) and bluetooth lights up but wireless doesnt. (Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG). now i just learned about 'rfkill list' it shows that there is a soft block on the wireless. tried " rfkill unblock 0" nothing happened. also when i tried finding out wat kernel im using " uname-r" to find out more on why its not unblocking, the CLI says "comand isnt found" next two problems are small but are still frustrating
2) built in camera: the green light is on next to the lens but when trying to test the camera on skype or a photo program the video feed/ picture is black, or blank. not sure what i can do to fix that.
3) fingerprint scanner: yes i have one, i know its not efficient but I still like using it to login in instead of typing. im not sure how to get linux/ubuntu to recognize it if it even is. not sure how to set it up if it is recognized.
i would like to fix the wireless more than anything, if i can fix the camera and scanner then yeay, otherwise i can survive. oh and note i did try using the "additional drivers" app. nothing popped up.

1. How do you get the "original camera data" that is attached to each photo jpeg? I must be missing a plug-in? Or?
2. Not possible to right click and copy these photo's out of F-Spot into a new folder?

Apr 30, 2011Just updated to natty last night, still coming to grips with Unity, but the date format for Sydney Australia shows as Year-Month-Day instead of Day-Month-Year, tried changing it manually, but it just changes it's self back to what it was. Still coming to grips with the launcher, but do not like the black back ground used in the dash, would like to be able to change it. Would also like to make the icons in the launcher smaller than 32.

Feb 12, 2010I was given a 41-page pdf document (+ .docx) with some text/tables/pictures. Upon some audit, just 2 sentences must be changed in the document.
1. When I open it with openoffice (.docx) - the structure of the document really goes wrong. The document is too long to edit it manually to make it look as it's supposed to look.
2. When I open it with softmaker office 2010 (beta!) it crashes every time.
3. Could I edit just the relevant pages of .docx, export them to pdf and REPLACE just the two pages in the pdf file? Or is there any other solution without involving Windows?

Jan 24, 2011I just switched from a basic digital camera to a more advanced one that stores both Jpeg and Raw (.Nef - it's a Nikon) files for me.When importing files in Digikam, I rename the files so that they start with Date and Time. Example: 20110121-223748.JPG for a photo taken on Jan 21st 2011 at 22:37:48.I was a bit surprised when importing both the JPEG and the Raw version of the same photo, that the filename is different by a few seconds (no constant offset, sometimes they are the same):

20110121-223750.NEF
I did some "research" by looking at the exif data of both files (using "exiftool 20110121-223748.JPG" from the command line). Here is what I got back

File Modification Date/Time : 2011:01:21 22:37:48+01:00
Modify Date : 2011:01:21 22:37:48
Date/Time Original : 2011:01:21 22:37:48

So it seems that Digikam is using the "File Modification Date/Time" (different in the Jpeg's and Raw's of my camera) rather than the "Create Date" (the same for both Jpeg and Raw). (The few seconds difference in "File Modification Date/Time" between the two versions of the same photo is probably due to the time that my camera needs to write away the data on the SD memory card. I guess.) Is there a way to have Digikam use the Create Date? (Or the Date/Time Original?)
PS: I'm on Ubuntu 10.04LTS, using DigiKam 1.2.0

May 23, 2010I opened gstreamer-properties from the terminal. Following some directions from another thread, I changed the output to "custom" and filled in a box with a bunch of code that I didn't know anything about. I pressed "test" and it didn't work. Out of frustration, I deleted the text I had written in the box and closed gstreamer-properties. Now it won't open back up. When I try to open it from the terminal I get:
gstreamer-properties-Message: Skipping unavailable plugin 'artsdsink'
gstreamer-properties-Message: Skipping unavailable plugin 'esdsink'
Segmentation fault
That's it. It won't open and when I try to open it directly from its source folder, nothing happens at all. How can I open it back up so I can continue to fiddle with it and (hopefully) fix this blue-tint problem.

Jul 24, 2010I have a 3TB home server storing all my files and a mix of XP, Vista & Ubuntu clients on a Gigabit network. When I access a folder with JPEG photos on the XP or Vista machines and I have them set to display thumbnails that is exactly what I get. The thumbnails load nice and fast. When I access the same folders on the Ubuntu machines with "icon view" it only displays a black icon that says "JPG" but if I copy that folder over to a local drive on the Ubuntu machines then the thumbs display just fine. Does anyone have any idea how to change this on the Ubuntu machines so they load thumbnails for networked photos as well?

Like when you have all your different albums already neatly sorted into different folders Picasa just lists each folder as a separate album, regardless of date and other information. It didn't work in f-spot when I last tried (couple of month ago) and I haven't tried it shotwell and gthumb yet because it isn't mentioned anywhere under their respective features. Also I'm hesitating to download and install both these apps because I have a lot of pictures which take a while to import.

Which program do you people advice and why? I've been trying a couple (digikam/F-spot/Photoprint) but they didn't satisfy me. It seems that these programs lack some handy options like the tools for Windows i've been working with in the past.
