I have installed empathy, pidgin, telepathy and gstreamer plugins. How can I enable voice chat?I have already Skype runing, but I would like to set up at least one Linux client, and use google talk (gmail account) and even MSN, if it would be allowed.
I just installed ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop. Everything works well, but I have problem with sound. Output is OK as I can hear any sound from the computer; but there is no input sound from the mic. I am unable to record any voice or talk in voice chat.
I am trying to get Skype set up for voice chat. I tested my laptop's built-in mic by messaging echo123...
The test where I called the bot worked fine. However, when I had the bot call me, the playback was silent. What could be the cause of this? I have searched extensively and cannot find a solution.
I am brand new to Linux (Ubuntu 10.10 is what I use), and always used Yahoo Messenger back when I had Windows. Why are there no programs that allow for Voice calls to individual users? (not chat rooms, as I greatly despise them, but calls from one user to another) I was told Gyachi has that, but everything I tried does not work. Pidgin doesn't allow for voice chatting either, and the only version of Yahoo messenger that is available for Unix is extremely old and outdated.
I'm using finch as my main chat client but I have some issues, While on Lubuntu 10.10 I get the message "segmentation fault" when I try to engage /call, I also tried starting voice chat In pidgin and pidgin also crashes. this does not occur under Ubuntu 10.10.I have the voice/video plugin installed for pidgin and from what I have been able to derive from the documentation both finch and pidgin uses the same lib.and pls no referring to use other programs, I want to fix this specific Issue with finch.
I have Ubuntu 9.10 trying to get yahoo voice chat to work. Thing I have tried is Gyache now everything works but I cant talk. I can hear but not talk. When I hit the talk button the program goes grey. I have wine installed with Yahelite but when I open up YahVox I get the box open and no one is in there. Ycabby does not work for so I download the three cabs and extracted the files and copped the files to the system32 folder. I tried to the mighty google but I get a whole lot of nothingness.
I'm using 9.10. Most of my contacts on line use MSN for voice calls. Is there any messenger that supports voice for Ubuntu? aMsn and Empathy does not work. aMsn says that it's due to a protocol change in Live Messenger. Lately I've found out that voice through msn live messenger is real good in clarity and it hardly breaks up. Any way to connect with Live messenger for voice chat.
Currently I'm using Arch Linux. I'm more used to Linux now, but for communication, I still have some problems:
My main software which I use on Windows is Skype and TeamViewer to share screen / voice chat to do pair programming with my friends. imo.im is too simple and it doesn't help much with only chat.
i have a gnome debian squeeze fresh install. this new release is perfect except for one problem i am having. the sound will not work in empathy when i receive a message from somebody. i have it set to do this in the settings and i am sure that my sound works because i was watching videos before. when i run alsamixer, all of my channels are not on mute. is there a package that is missing from my system that i might need? i tried researching this but i could not find any help.
i have a fresh install of fedora 15 and i just configured kopete for gmail and facebook using jabber. Now, i dont see any place where i can start an audio call. i am logged into gmail and facebook already. chat is working . am i missing something?
I have Debian 6 installed. Is there a way for the web browsers (Iceweasel and Chromium) to recognize the multimedia plugins (gstreamer0.10) that were installed? about:plugins in the browser, references Gnash as the only plugin available.
I have an issue with my Ubuntu both 9.10 nad 10.04.I had the video worked perfectly untill yesterday but now i can see the video hear the noise (cars, music) but no voice of human.
I can play the DVD, but without any voice overs. The music comes in fine, same with the picture. It isn't just VLC. Same problem in Movie Player. Didn't know till just now.
I was wondering if there exists a software that can change your voice over Skype (acting as a virtual sound driver in order to change the sound in real time). It would be nice because I really want one of these.
Well, I enjoy the show Stargate SG-1, and I was wondering if there was any way I could get my voice to sound like that of a Goa'uld or Tok'ra while I am talking on Skype.
I want to do some amateur voice over works. I need an audio editor that can also play the video simultaneously to sync with the character's lip movements. The problem is my video sources are in h264 mkv, I guess it is not very friendly with many softwares.
Here's what I've searched (tried some of them too) and the results:LiVES -> can't compile with kernel 2.6.38, the offered patch (in sf) rejected (maybe different source file from the one specified in the patch)Cinerella, can't accept mkv or mp4. (after that I tried to get the source video loaded to Cinerella)x264, transcoding to lower the resolution -> no avi container output, sync problem with raw h264 stream outputavidemux_qt, trying to mux the transcoded video to avi -> crashed with h264 input video, either in elementary stream or matroska format (I doubt Cinerella will accept avi videos with h264 codec, if I could ever make one)ffmpeg, transcode from h264 to xvid -> shared library error: libavutil.so.49 not found xvidenc shell script -> no mencoder (I'm using mplayer2)
I have a computer that runs debian 6, and i want to make a dual boot system where i can boot either with or without desktop. AS default the server will be booting in console (headless) mode (and act as server) but on some occasions i do want to bootup in desktop.
I know starting GDM (in my case the desktop manager) is just a simple task, but i would like to have 2 options in boot menu: 1 - without desktop default (timeout 5 seconds) 2 - with desktop
Is there a way to enable opacity in screenlets? I'm using Debian Squeeze with Gnome. I noticed there is a bug around but it should be fixed?? http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=518179
I have a problem regarding speech recording and i couldn't find a way around it. I want to record voice while at the same time processing it. Let me explain some more, what i want to do is to keep on speaking and it should be recorded in a file which i can process at the same time. If somebody knows of any such program or way to do this(like some code in C which can auto direct the recorder to keep on recording and saving).
I've been using debian for well over a year, previously with the gnome desktop. I never really liked how much memory and CPU it used, but many things like the hotkeys worked out of the box, and it was relatively easy to configure. After upgrading to Jessie I decided I'd give LXDE a go given it was lightweight and seemed more complete than e17.
However, after over a day struggling to get everything to work just right, I am still unable to use use my hotkeys (volume control, brightness control, etc.). The volume can be controlled through the GUI, but the brightness seems to have no control whatsoever. In any event, I installed the drivers and firmware for the hardware and used the instructions in the link to try and configure the key bindings, but nothing has worked: [URL] ....
:Questions#Change_hotkeys I'm not sure what to do now.
how do i enable video support for pidgin?, or is it on by default?? because when i click a chat room from yahoo's list of rooms(that say people have web-cams)i don't see any options to view any of the webcams.
How do you enable a login screen? When I turn on my computer I only get command line. When I log into root I can start my KDE desktop using startx. But if I log into any other user I get the following errorX: usser not authorized to run the X server, aborting.giving up.xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X serverxinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.
