Ubuntu :: Flash Does Take Up 90+ Cpu
Mar 11, 2011
So far everything seems ok i have noticed that flash does take up 90+ cpu. i have read that its mostly normal and i have read up on and have installed cpulimit but when i try to limit say Firefox the program seems to craw. I would like to say that everything does seem to work.
this is what i think i have based on Google (my laptop is a emachines e627 blackfriday edition )
Processor AMD Athlon 64 TF-20 / 1.6 GHz
64-bit Computing Yes
RAM 2gb
Graphics Processor / Vendor ATI Radeon HD 3200
i could have the advance appearance settings on (with the cube and compiz doing its thing) but i just have wobbly windows and min and max effects
my Internet seems slow, but not the speed of the Internet that seems to be slow. just im pretty sure that loading up facebook was a bit faster on windows 7 ..
i don't know how i would know if all my drivers are set up and running the way they should and also what else could i do to make things faster seems like every time i open up or create a new tab or just about anything my cpu hits 100 but drops fast maybe its my cheep computer.

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 AMD64 beta. After installing the flash player, everything worked fine. I installed a few updates, as well as Ubuntu Stuido from the synaptic package manager, and when I rebooted, I can't hear any sound from flash content displayed in Fire Fox. All other sounds work fine, and I made another user account as a test, and that account has full audio functionality, including flash...

I installed Boxee on my 64bit install. I had to edit the DEB so it did not install Flash, because Ubuntu still insists on installing the 32bit version which always borks Firefox.
But now I cant run synaptic without getting complaints of broken packages. I just want to blacklist boxee from from annoying the hell out of me, but keep it installed. How do I go about doing that?

I'm trying to load the flash stuff in webpages, but it says i need the flash plugin.
I download the YUM rpm installer, and use yum localinstall to do it.
Terminal say: /home/wade/Download/adobe-release-i386-1.0-1.noarch.rpm: does not update installed package.
I have already tried installing it, and it says it worked fine, but I'm still unable to view flash.

Did anybody tried installing the latest adobe flash named Square for amd64 systems? I was interested in knowing whether there is any improvement in the performance. I also want to know how to replace my existing 32 bit wrapper based flash on 64 bit browser and install this 64 bit flash.

You may know that there was a security release for Adobe Flash Plugin for Linux x86 but not for x86_64. There has been a development:
See : http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html
It works fine here. I have a Multilib Slack 13.1 stable.

i've suddenly got problems with flash - it was working fine until a cuple of days ago.i have flash 10.1.82. 76 ubuntu0.10.04.2 on ubuntu 10.04, but videos and other flash sites tell me i need to upgrade to the latest flash version 10.i've tried flash-aid, which seems to run ok but i still have the problem.at the same time, i can suddenly only run firefox tools > add-ons in safe mode - if i choose tools > addons in normal mode, fx locks up completely, and finally gives me the option to force quit. i've tried re-enabling add-ons one at a time, but no problem until i come out of safe mode.i'm wondering if this is a firefox problem rather than ubuntu or flash. my firefox is 3.6.8

I have a USB flash drive, which is bootable and I would like to copy the whole drive to a different drive. Can I just do a low level dd copy between both USB memory drives, or do I need to make an ISO of the source, and then put that ISO on the destination? I figured I could ask in less time than trying, and exhaustively testing to make sure I had it right...

In my frustration to get adobe flash working in firefox I deleted the /usr/lib/flash-plugin folder. Now when I try to uninstall "Flash-Plugin" from YAST it fails as it can't find the sub-folder. I also cannot install the latest version of flash player as it says that it is already installed - So I am stuck in a loop.
I am running SUSE 11.2.
Is there a config file of installed programs that I can modify to remove the "Flash-Plugin" entry, or is there another way to get over this problem.

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 with all the updates, Google Chrome, Firefox, and Flash 10.1
Media College [url] says this for my flash version: LNX 10,1,53,64
Chrome's "about : plugins" page says I actually have two flash plugins ...

Whenever I allow any flash content (I have flashblock), my computer starts spazzing out. Things don't work as smoothly and the most disruptive behavior is that my Logitech VX USB RF wireless mouse starts acting erratically. Additionally, CPU usage is very high. This does not happen in Windows 7 on the same machine, but it does happen on Ubuntu 10.04 on my desktop too, though not to the same extent - my mouse, while it seems to be slightly odd, is still more responsive on my desktop.
Laptop: 1.83GHz Intel Core2Duo T5550
Desktop: 1GHz AMD AthlonX2 3800+
Summary: on my laptop (and to a lesser extent, my desktop), when flash content is allowed, the CPU usage goes to extreme, causing the system to slow down and the mouse to become erratic.
By the way, some examples of flash content: ....., speedtest.net, last.fm's radio, etc
One more note: Sometimes even changing pages (such as clicking on a link) will bog down the mouse for a moment until the page is loaded, though I have broadband.

Here is how I got flash to work in prism. Prism was working fine with flash in 9.10 but the 10.4 install caused it to stop working. After doing all of these with no success I decided to open up a terminal and see what the problem was.
Here is what I did prior to finding the problem:
- Purged and reinstalled flash
- Cleared my website storage cache from flash
- Deleted all shortcuts to Prism
- Deleted Prism settings (~/.prism) then purged and reinstalled Prism.
Finally, I decided to open up a terminal and see what was going on. I made a dummy Prism app on my desktop then copied and pasted the 'command' from the properties (right click > properties).
I pasted that in a terminal:
Code:
tye@T:~/Desktop$ "prism" -override "/home/tye/.webapps/dummy@prism.app /override.ini" -webapp dummy@prism.app
It gave me the following output:
Code:
Attempting to load the system libmoon
Segmentation fault
So, knowing that libmoon is part of moonlight I performed the following:
Code:
tye@T:~/Desktop$ aptitude search moonlight
which provided me with this (omitting unimportant results)
Code:
i A moonlight-plugin-core
- Free Software clone of Silverlight 2.0 - plugin core components
i moonlight-plugin-mozilla
- Free Software clone of Silverlight 2.0 - Xulrunner 1.9 plugin
So, I removed the packages and any related packages, like so:
Code:
tye@T:~/Desktop$ sudo apt-get purge moonlight-plugin-core moonlight-plugin-mozilla && autoremove
Made a dummy prism app! Prism was working. So there you have it, moonlight is currently breaking prism. For now uninstall it if you want flash apps to work in prism.

I'm trying to get flash to work in Ubuntu x64. I used Synaptic to download the flash plug-in, however when I try to go to ..... it tells me I have to update flash. When I try to, the Adobe site tells me Google Chrome already has the latest version installed. How can I get it to work? I'm hoping there's an easy cure, since I'm new to Ubuntu.

i noticed after adding the flashplugin-x64 ppa from ubuntu tweak, when im in the synaptic package manager and go to install it, it appears to be installed but when i check the terminal log i see that it fails to download the plugin. I know that flash x64 has temporally been halted by macromedia
i have tried using nspluginwrapper and the 32bit flash version but with certain videos im unable to use the controls.
I was wanting to know where i could get the latest x64 flashplugin ?? that was made before macromedia stopped creating them.

I have made a usb ubuntu bootable memory stick following ubuntu instructions, using startup disk creator, i used a fresh burnt cd with correct md5 checksum, 32 bit desktop 386i created the key with 4 gb persistence area, the key is 8Gb corsair. I have made keys before successfully. Ive tried several attempts and I even tried using iso image in windows with the software to create the key as per ubuntu instructions. Every time the key makes successfully. Then this happens
I put usb key in pc, boot, it starts to boot ubuntu, it gets as far as ubuntu logo with 5 dots scanning across and stays at this point. I just hit F1 and got this message.
Quote:(process:411) Glib - Warning ** : getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0) Stdin:error 0
