Ubuntu Installation :: No Flash In 10.10?
Nov 30, 2010
I've just upgraded to 10.10 and Flash doesn't work. I've tried following the thread re Flash installation off Adobe website and ended up with this message:
W: GPG error: [URL] maverick Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY DB141E2302FDF932
What is this? The vlc is already installed.

Did anybody tried installing the latest adobe flash named Square for amd64 systems? I was interested in knowing whether there is any improvement in the performance. I also want to know how to replace my existing 32 bit wrapper based flash on 64 bit browser and install this 64 bit flash.

I just installed Ubuntu 9.04 again on my PC after a long time. Everything was working fine. No problems at all. After running all the necessary updates, I wanted to install Adobe Flash. This I did by going to Adobe's site. I selected the APT version for 9.04+. It was installing fine UNTIL there was a power cut. Since then I have been trying out various methods of repair suggested in these forums. But again and again get the same message:Quote:
W: GPG error: http://archive.canonical.com jaunty Release: The following signatures were invalid: BADSIG 40976EAF437D05B5 Ubuntu Archive Automatic Signing Key <ftpmaster@ubuntu.com>
W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems

I've created a USB startup disk under Ubuntu 10.04 lucid (Live CD), Ive selected the option to save system settings to the flashdrive with about 200MB usage, now that ive configured and customized the opperating system (on the flashdrive) I want to create a ISO from that flashdrive installation.
Once the ISO is created, I want to burn it, boot off the CD then create another startup disk but this time setting "Discard on shutdown" so no settings or files can be saved to the flashdrive, but my custom setup remains. "its for an internet cafe setup".
How do i recreate an ISO from the USB startup disk?

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 AMD64 beta. After installing the flash player, everything worked fine. I installed a few updates, as well as Ubuntu Stuido from the synaptic package manager, and when I rebooted, I can't hear any sound from flash content displayed in Fire Fox. All other sounds work fine, and I made another user account as a test, and that account has full audio functionality, including flash...

I am trying to install Lucid Lynx from a flahs drive. I formatted it so there were no old files on it (used to have 9.10 which I successfully installed from it). I made sure the bios was set right- boot from flash. I have Lucid Lynx on it yet when I reboot the computer (flash drive is plugged in) it will not boot from flash and start installing the new distro, it just keeps going back to show me the screen for 9.10 (no gui just asks for a username and password which I have forgotten lol.

I have a 10.04.1 Live CD iso sitting on my HDD. I want to install it to my 4GB flash, and have at least 1GB of persistence, as I want it to be a sorta quick and handy tool to get the job done, or I specifically need something from there. Now, I have created similar before, with 1 GB of persistence, but the persistence just didn't really work for some odd reason. So the outline is that I want to install the Live CD to my USB, have at least 1GB of persistence and I'm also thinking of transferring some essential packages to the persistence/flash, like samba etc.

I'm a complete beginner at Ubuntu. I have Windows XP on my computer, but would like to run Ubuntu. However, I don't want to install it on my hard drive. So I figured I would just install it to, and run it from, a flash drive. I've seen some mixed instructions on how to do this. I want to have Ubuntu(and nothing else) on a flash drive. When I plug the flash drive in, I boot from it via BIOS setup. Then it's running Ubuntu directly from the flash drive. Anything I do, save, or install is saved to the flash drive. When I shut down the computer, and unplug the flash drive, then reboot it,nothing in XP has changed. Next time I boot from the flash drive, everything that was previously on it, is still on it(I plan to use a 32 or 64GB flash drive, or I might even step up to a portable hard drive). How do I do this? I've heard something about a "live" installation of Ubuntu? Can someone give me a link to it(not just www.ubuntu.com)? Also, a step-by-step guide would be very helpful(if it's not just as simple as installing to the flash drive).

Yesterday I installed Ubuntu Linux from a flash drive, and it worked perfectly. While I was on it, everything froze so I restarted, but when I restarted, the window to install Ubuntu from flash drive, or run it from flash drive, etc popped up even though I had already installed it. I chose to install it, but it wouldn't work. I tried to turn the computer on without the flash drive in, but it said to insert system disk, etc. I went into the Advanced BIOS and it was already set to first boot from harddrive.

I just installed ubuntu 9.10 on a 4GB usb stick given the menu item at the top. I selected 512MB for my own user space. then I rebooted, and started updating it. I am getting almost 200 packages by default now that need to be updated.
alas, ubuntu live update now runs out of space while doing the update. this is not because 4GB is too little, but because too little space seems to be dedicated to the root partition.
what is the recommended way to have an up-to-date 9.10 copy now?

I'm trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 onto my 8GB flash drive using these instructions. I've run the install and installed GRUB2 and 10.04. However, selecting 10.04 on GRUB doesn't work.
On the instructions, it says this:
Quote:
You will also need to manually edit the menu.lst file of the new USB installation to change the boot references to /dev/sda, rather than /dev/sdb (or /dev/sdc etc.). This can be done by booting to the live distro mode of the Ubuntu install CD and editing the /boot/grub/menu.lst file on the USB stick. You can mount the USB stick using the Places menu -- once mounted, it can be found at /media/disk.
I'm not sure what the equivalent step would be for the GRUB2 files.

After many failed attempts, I finally got Ubuntu on my Flash Drive (16gb). This was completed by downloading Ubuntu Desktop Edition (ubuntu.com), and using The Universal USB Installer to put the .iso on my Flash Drive.
When I try to boot my PC from the flash drive, I get a black screen saying...
"No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found! Boot:"

I recently decided to install Ubuntu (ubuntu-10.10-desktop-i386.iso) to my 16GB flash drive (was fat32 originally, tried ntfs as well had boot issues, went back to fat32) to boot from it using the method on this page using the Universal USB Installer. Install worked great, Ubuntu works great, problem is I can't see the rest of the files on my flash drive.
