View 2 Replies View RelatedI am relatively new to scripting, but I was wanting to open a firefox window from a bash script, but have it open, then minimize. In the script, I have a single instance of: firefox & but is there a way to minimize it, versus have it displayed on the screen? I was wanting the command terminal to remain visible and it can't since the firefox window is open in front of it. I looked all over the place, including the man pages, but to no avail. I can make the height and width changes, but no minimize. Either that, or to be able to bring the terminal window back to the front automatically.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have firefox 5 on my old box. But the border disappear regularly (in flwm). how to then minimize the window? (where firefox is). Perhaps there is a "ctrl something" for making appearing again the flwm border?
In the remaining time, I have to close firefox with "File Exit" when I want to start another programm or go into another window. I desinstalled/reinstalled firefox, then the border was again then and i could minimize/maximize the window..
I have been a long time Windows OS user. I am in the process of learning Linux in a college class that is focused around Ubuntu.I like how in Windows OS that when you lick minimize in a window that the open window will minimize to the task bar. Is there away to do this in Ubuntu 9.10 ? I will need a n00b step by step how to for this one.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm so special. For some reason, when i try to minimalize something... ANYTHING! it dissapears. I'm thinking it had something to do with me messing around with Compiz. I have now deleated Compiz, but the problem continues. The effects i turned on in Compiz are also still working. Is there any way to go back the the Compiz default?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWith Lucid I gave evolution another try (actually the fourth time I installed a new Ubuntu version) and after some fiddling it worked (the first time, sadly). I like the idea to gather all "message" like things in one tray icon, so basically I like the indicator-applet. However, there is no way to customize it and many users complain about this. One particular issue is that evolution cannot be minimized to this tray icon. There are a lot of workarounds, all of them (to my knowledge) circumventing the indicator-applet and using an individual tray icon. But today, I found out how to do it. So... You want to use the indicator-message icon, but minimize evolution without an entry in the window-list? Devilspie has the "skip_tasklist" capability. So, install devilspie and create a script for evolution mail, e.g. $HOME/.devilspie/evolution.ds like this:
[Code].....
When evolution is started, the script pins evolution (so its available on all workspaces), enables skip_tasklist (so it is not shown in the window list), and minimizes it.
Applications will minimize automatically. when i select them they will maximize then immidiatly minimize. i just installed ubuntu 10.04 on my netbook everything worked great then i ran the update manager it restarted. after that i cannont keep any apps open. ubuntu 10.04 on acer aspire one netbook. clean install. ubuntu only.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI don't know if I saw this minimize effect in ubuntu but definitely have seen it on other nix systems. It's basically a little button in the menu bar that when clicked, "minimizes" the window so that only the menubar shows.how to get it working on ubuntu.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Ubuntu Server 10.04 TLS installed on a Virtual Machine in a VirtualBox. The size of the Hard Drive is dynamic growing hard drive and the maximum is 32GB. At the beginning I had 4GB on the Hard Drive and the size of the .vdi was 4GB. Lately the size of data on the disk is 15GB but the size of the .vdi is almost 32GB. Why is that? How can I pack / optimize / defrag the HD so it will be the same size of the data on the disk?

View 2 Replies View Relatedi have just changed my desktop appearance by using the customise option, but now when i click on minimize the windows close instead of going to the panel ive searched high and low for a settings option but cant find one so i have no idea what i have done.ive tried reverting back to the old desk top but get the same problem there so ive managed to change a setting somewhere but don't know where.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I click the Firefox icon, normally I can maximize and minimize in the window (either top or bottom panel). This has disappeared and I am not sure why. I had installed [URL... and suddenly after deleting/cleaning it up/restoring panels I cannot see why or how I can easily maximize or minimize any panel, not just Firefox.
View 4 Replies View Relatedits possible using compiz to minimize all applications to the desktop. Im looking for something similar to the scale effect where I could just throw my mouse to the bottom left corner but instead of all open applications I could see the desktop.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAll open apps when minimised just disappear, they do not go to the task bar. What can I do to get open apps to minimize to the task bar.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded my netbook from 9.10 to 10.4 LTS. The installation seemed to work just fine, and after the reboot all things came up as expected. However, when I click on a program, it will appear, then immediately minimize in the upper-left corner. If I click on it, it will reappear then go back within a second.
I also noticed that if I move to a different area and run another application within there (OpenOffice for example), again the application will appear and minimize, but also the desktop is moved back to the Favorites.
It's very flustrating, as my mouse skills are not as good as the PC minimizing. The only thing that I noticed (may or not be relevant) was when I finally got it good enough to log off, a quick popup showed up about an Unknown program unable to end. Has anyone else experienced this. Is there something I can do to resolve this, or am I stuck on building 10.4 from scratch?
and i know of course i could just get used to it. but the X minimize and expand buttons on the windows is flip flopped on 10.04 now i dont have a clue how to change it back. it kept all old settings but changed this one little thing and its bothering me. ive been through compiz and appearance and whatever else i thought might change this. but just couldnt figure it out. i prefer my escape to be at the top right of my page. as i expect a majority of u do as well. anyone wanna point me in the right direction?
View 2 Replies View Related1. how I can "roll up" a program window by using the mousewheel? At work we have SLED 10/KDE (Ubuntu/Gnome is "better"), and there I can do it that way. It would be nice if I could do it here at home, in Ubuntu 10.04, too.
2. in "Gutsy Gibbon", I could turn the Compiz cube with the mousewheel. Can this be done with the mousewheel in 10.04 too, and if so, how? I don't seem to find it in the CompizConfig Settings Manager (or I'm missing it, which wouldn't be so strange, considering the countless things one can change in Ubuntu).
OK I feel silly having to as this as it probably some setting I changed but cant figure out where I did it..
So when I click on the minimise button of an open window instead of dropping to the bottom panel it disapears completely. Likewise if I have say a folder open and then open something new the new one replaces the old one instead of al being available in the panel.
Where do I reset this?
I am running the NBR using the Gnome interface, instead of the default netbook interface, but the problem happens even if I switch back to the default.Whenever I click on the MINIMIZE to desktop [v] button, the program abends (i.e. it disapppears, is NOT visible mimimized to the desktop, nor shows in the task bar or lower panel. The default buttons are in order of placement are:x [close], v (downward pointing arrowhead)[minimize to desktop] and [^ / ] (upward pointing arrowhead / square) [minimize /maximize]. I realise that on a small netbook screen such as my Asus EEE 1000 PC one might easily click on the "close" (x) button my mistake.
However, I UORPOSELY click on the down arrow button, and the current program / window disappears completely. As per my description above, I cannot find the application, so I have to relaunch it from the program menu. If it had been minimized, the system would inform me that the program was already running. Since it does not, it is a safe assumption and statement to say that the application / window / program has abendedMy only workaround is to adjust the maximixe size of the window using the rightmost button (downward arrow head = smaller window, square = fully maximized).
how do i remove the minimize effect in openbox?
