Ubuntu :: Error Unknown Command "terminal"

I didn't like the white on black grub menu, found it hard to read. so modified the /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme

set menu_color_normal=white/black
set menu_color_highlight=black/light-grey
(This is where the silly old fart comes in, I didn't comment out the original lines, I just deleted the black/white, black /light-grey and reversed them.)then I updated grub, rebooted, and got this message from grub.

and 1280X1024 came up as OK. No idea about the "terminal" thing. Maybe "light-grey" should be "light_grey" look at their /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme and post the below lines

I know I screwed up something. I was using Ubuntu 10 minutes ago without a hitch. Then I tried reducing the time I needed to select something in GRUB. So basically, I found this command:

I got it when I tried reducing the GRUB_TIMEOUT from the code above. I feel so furious now because I knew it was a bad idea to fix something that isn't broke. Can my Wubi install still be saved?

I am posting this because it is also happening to me.
I've installed (through Wubi) Ubuntu 10.04, after rebooting, I've got this error, waiting a couple seconds, Ubuntu started normally. This message now repeats whenever I start Ubuntu.
Error: unknown command, keystatus
I always get this message when I boot to Ubuntu. How can I get rid of this message and fix this issue.

I've just carried out an update and when I rebooted it won't let me passed the choose screen with Windows 7 or Ubuntu on it, I choose the Ubuntu and Error: unknown command - load font flashes for a second and then the machine reboots!I can't get any further into Ubuntu than that, any one have any ideas of how I can get back in????

I'm running Debian testing and after a recent software update, suddenly I can no longer boot into my single Linux kernel image anymore. I did look at the software update before I did it and I don't believe that it removed any software packages. When I try to boot into my linux 2.6.26-1-amd64 image, I get the following message from grub:"error: unknown command `initrd'"..The same error appears if I try to boot into single-user mode. I have a Windows XP partition on the same hard disk and I am still able to boot into that from grub. I've searched the net and haven't really found my same problem replicated anywhere. I would imagine that the problem is just that somehow the initrd package got removed in my last software update, but again I don't recall seeing any software that the update planned to remove.
Any thoughts on how I would go about fixing this problem? Since I'm unable to get into Linux at all, I imagine I'll have to use a LiveCD to get in and fix the problem, but I don't know where to begin looking.

I was running an update on my computer (running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid) and something must have been transferred incorrectly as every time I open synaptic, I get an error message that tells me to type a command into the terminal:

I am able to invoke 'skype' using the following command in a Terminal window. < export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 && LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so && skype & >. I want to be able to enter it through the Gnome Application interface. I right click on the skype icon and went to properties and added the above code. When I click the icon I get the following error message set out on the attachment? properly enter the commands within the application Command: line?

When I send mail via Evoultion it does seem to send ok but still the following error message comes up: Error while sending message. Failed to append to : Unknown error Appending to local 'Sent' folder instead. Not sure what's up with that but thought I would mention it.

When i try to add value 150 on portflood section of csf,i get following error:

how is limitation with ip_recent where highest value for hit_count is 20,and how i need to modify and recompile ip_recent.But i was not able find anything about either modify or recompiling that module.I have cent os 5.4 64 bit,iptables are installed over yum.Also i have 4 servers with completely identical configuration,yet on two servers portflood works while on other two it reporting that error.Maybe it was different install cd which caused this,but again i dont know why this doesnt work since iptables version are indetical.

My first day on a linux ditibution ever, windows user untill now. I just bought a dedicated server and used the automated tools to install debian.
Now I connected through ssh and I saw that python was already installed doing python --version (v2.7.9)
However running 'pip install beautifulsoup4' return -bash: pip: "command not found"
Is there something similar to windows environment variables that I need to set?

I am working on research using a USB wireless card (WUSB600N) which works by a driver from Ralink (rt3572). In order to achieve my task, I am trying to modify that driver. One of the ways, I tried to call a function written in different module from that which I am working in. Every thing went fine (make & make install) until the modprobe command when i got (Unknown Symbol) about that function. I tried many ways to solve that problem like; Export_Symbol, and function pointers but, with no results!

Many of mails sent from my mail server that are in Queue;The main reason is deffered by domains like yahoo,aol,etc.but there is one more error that i keep getting and that is Host Unknown,Below is an example from mail log,The catch is,test mail sent on the same email id sent from my personal mail from the same server i.e. url was deliveredHowever,another mail containing client information sent from customercare@mycompanysdomain ended up in queue.
There are more examples of the same,around 20 domain have the same problem.

I have a dual boot system with ubuntu 9.10 x64 and Windows 7. Everything has been working fine for a a long time but yesterday I tried to delete an unused partition through the Disk Utility in ubuntu (System->Adminstration->Disk Utility) and everything was messed up. I used to get the "Grub error: Unknown filesystem". I managed to create an ubuntu bootable usb and followed some tutorials for fixing grub but all i managed to do is to get another error: "Grub error: No such disc". After some experimentation i got
"Grub stage 1.5" which gave me a grub> command prompt./dev/sda is the drive containing Windows and Ubuntu.

I have a problem with Transmission. After using it for over six months without a single problem, it suddenly stopped downloading. In the torrents that do no get downloaded, I get an error message Tracker responded: Unknown error (0) in the info window, tracker tab. But there are torrents with the same tracker that don'thave a problem and get downloaded fineThe logs don't give a clue about whats wrong either.I tried downloading those torrents with Vuze and I had the same problem. I've been trying to solve this problem for DAYS now, without any progress. I've searched the forums for a long time before even starting this thread. So now I need help, PLEASE. I don't want to have to use WINDOWS in order to sync my phone with my computer, that's crap and there has to be a way. I have Ubuntu 9.10 and I'm trying to sync my LG Versa VX960V07. When I plugged it in to begin with, it was set on Auto-Sync Music, and the phone showed that it was connecting to the computer. I set it on Data-Sync and nothing happened when I plugged it in. I set it to Ask on Plug-in, and again nothing happens, and the box on my phone that says "Sync Data; Sync Music" does not pop up like it does when using windows.
First I tried installing a bunch of different music programs, Songbird, Amarok, K3B, etc and none of them work with my phone. I can't even install the MTP add-on for songbird, it's not supported under linux. Then I tried sudo apt-get install mtp-tools, which worked. Then MTP-detect, which showed no device. I also tried the command for searching for drives attached. And it did not show a USB drive attached. My computer simply does not detect my phone.
Then I tried this:

Installing BitPim, which does not support the LG Versa, but the new 1.0.7 testing branch does. So I followed the tutorial on that page, installing Alien and trying to convert the RPM to DEB. I don't even know what these commands mean, I'm not a linux Guru, but I'm learning. I tried everything and spent like 3 hours going through this tutorial to no avail. Is it suppose to create a .deb file where the RPM is? If so it doesn't work, and it won't launch BitPim for me. I have no idea what's going on. When I try:

I can play CDs and DVDs but when I try to burn a music CD I get:
error while burning
an unknown error occurred
when the CD is finalising. As data has been written to the CD, but not finalised, each time I try I use another CD.
I've used Brasero and whatever the default burner in 9.10 is with the same result. If I boot in Win7 I can burn CDs.
