Nov 24, 2010i install ubuntu for 2nd time, i use transmission app to download a torrent for my computer, but in this time that program block, and don't let me download waht i want. the program stay grey and not responding.

Aug 18, 2010I have ubuntu-10.04-desktop-amd64.iso loaded in Transmission, which starts every time I boot up. Today, I booted up and got these weird error messages from Transmission with the ubuntu-10.04-desktop-amd64.iso file. The message is: Tracker gave an error "Requested download is not authorized for use with this tracker." - Idle.
I thought that maybe something was wrong with Transmission, so I paused the torrent and then removed it. I then reloaded it and pointed Transmission at the download directory. Transmission verified the downloaded data and then spat out the same error message at me - "Requested download is not authorized for use with this tracker."
I then removed the torrent from Transmission, exited from Transmission cleanly, restarted Transmission, reloaded the torrent file, pointed it at the current download location, it verified the file was completely downloaded, and then got the same error message. I have a firewall running, and it has ports 51413 and ports 6881-6999 open for both TCP and UDP connections. These are the same settings that I had yesterday, and there was no error message spat out by Transmission yesterday.

Mar 26, 2011I was downloading to a USB drive and went to continue the download without the USB drive plugged in. "Save location not found " etc. So I plug in the drive now it wants to start all over. How do I make it start from where it left off. There are no transmission files on the ISB drive dir. that seem to hold the info and the transmission "queue" has reset as if I had not downloaded any data yet.

May 1, 2010I have quite fast Internet connection, 100mbit, and I'm able to take advantage of the entire bandwidth that I'm paying for. When I, however, use Transmission as torrent client and download a torrent faster than, 7-8 Mbyte/second, my hard drive is spinning all the time and my desktop becomes sporadically unresponsive, load average gets high and I'm pretty much sure the Transmission-application is the cause to this, somehow. It must be some strange way it cashes stuff...I don't know.
I'm, either way, not experiencing anything like that with any other torrent client in Linux (or Windows for that matter). It's not that I'm tied to Transmission, in fact, I prefer rtorrent and use it anytime I can, it's just that some stupid torrent sites are giving me Transmission as the only client option when I'm using Linux, so I have to stick to it those times. I have quite fast system, Core Duo 3ghz, 4gb ram, 500 gb 7200rpm 16MB cache WD hard drive, etc...so the hardware certainly shouldn't be a problem.

Dec 5, 2010I can only access the Transmission web interface while the Transmission-gtk client is running. When I close it, the web interface is no longer available. I try to manually start the transmission-daemon, but the process never shows up as running.

so i was a little hasty in upgrading Tranmission to version 2.0 and after a while i noticed that the new version is really slow especially for public torrents my question is; is it possible to downgrade to version 1.93?
i followed these command to install the new version.

I am selling one of them but not all the torrents will have the time to finish downloading before the buyer picks up the machine. How can I transfer my partially downloaded torrents from one machine to the other? I have an external drive but I don't know how to do this.

Aug 2, 2010Here at home I have several Ubuntu installations, mine, the kids computers and a couple of laptops. What I'm looking for is a solution or a pointer in the right direction to setup on our local Ubuntu server a sort of cache. Each day each Ubuntu on the network, checks for updates and downloads, and installs. What I'm looking for is a way for one machine to download the update and then the others to download from the local resource.
A sort of local cache to try and minimise everyone downloading straight from the net for pretty much the same updates. I did a emerge cache many years ago when I was using Gentoo, so I'm wondering what I can use/do here with Ubuntu as we are all loving this distro now.

Apr 2, 2010I just installed ubuntu 9.10 32bit on my compaq 6000.I have a nVidia Corporation NV17 [GeForce4 MX 420] graphic card, and I wanted to install the proper drivers.I tried to use Hardware Drivers, but when it tries to activate the "NVIDIA accelerated graphic ... ... (version 96)", it starts a download and then it simply stops doing anything.I also tried to use EnvyNg, which also started downloading and stopped.I also tried to install manually the "NVIDIA-linux-x86-96.43.01-pky1.run" (which was what Envy recommended) but1) I'm a Noob and most forums said "don't mess with your graphic card if you'e not confindent enough"2) when I dosudo /etc/init.d/gdm stopsudo sh NVIDIA-linux-x86-96.43.01-pky1.runit says that I don't have a precompiled kernel interface, and something about kernel sources not matching current kernel (but "gcc -dumpversion" shows the same as "cat /proc/version").

I know this probably doesn't bother people if you've got 50mb internet and unlimited downloads, however, I have 3.5mb, and a download limit!
Is there A) anyway I can get software centre to tell me the size of a download, and B) is this altered in later versions - due to my limit I don't want to download them to see - catch 22!

I'm using firefox and have tried installing adobe flash player through their website (nothing happens, download doesn't start) and through the terminal (error messages), I've also tried installing other flash players from the ubuntu software centre and, while they install fine, they don't seem to actually work. Jun 10, 2010i wiped my entire hard drive that had xp as its only OS. I freshly installed a Windows 7 ultimate and everything went perfectly. I then decided to install 10.4. I split the partitions correctly (i had experience doing this already with my laptop, which has xp/10.4). Ubuntu 10.4 install went flawlessly, except for one thing. Now when i boot up the pc, it goes straight into 10.4. I have tried holding shift during the start up to force the boot menu, and it just shows the Ubuntu 10.4 OS as choices. Any clue what i could do to make Win7 appear in the boot menu?
