View 6 RepliesRecently i have upgraded from Fedora 14 to 15 formating the system partition and reinstalling. Nearly evrithing was flawless, but when i copied my old home directory the images of some of the launchers i have on the desktop are invisible.I use kde 4 with the activity show folder running pointing to the desktop folder. The icons missing are windows programs installed with wine. I copied the icons from one installation to another. I also tried to manually set the icon copying it to a different location and modifying de .desktop.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFor the past few days my file associations have gone for a toss. For example : an icon on the desktop to open eclipse says eclipse.desktop and doesn't show the eclipse image when i right click a .bz2 file it doesn't show the extract here option for text files, a small bit of the text is showing outside the icon where it usually shows inside The same problems are present in nautilus as well as the desktop.
Need some quick help to reset these to the default.
Have attached a screenshot to show the issue.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAs can be seen in the title of this post, I'm not quite sure what's going on exactly, but my systemtray icons in Lubuntu 11.04 are not shown the way they should. There's blank space between them, the equivalent of 2 or 3 icons, and the blank space is 'created' while starting up, as though they are programs. See the attached screenshot to get an idea what I'm talking about.I'm really happy with Lubuntu, this is at the moment the only thing that's bugging me. It used to be 2 empty spaces in the systemtray, now it's 3.

When I click on the current search engine's icon to display all my search engines so I can choose another one, the list of my search engines appears but not their icons and other people with the same OS and browser say they don't have this issue. What might be the reason for it?
View 5 Replies View RelatedRunning Ubuntu 10.10 along side Windows7 on a 64-bit HP Pavilion dv7 Laptop. Everything works in Windows. Everything works in Ubuntu, except for 2 things.1) I can live with not being able to enable/disable wifi.) I cannot read photos from an SD card plugged into the laptops SD card reader. When I open the SD card in Ubuntu, I can see the file name, but the thumbnails show messed up pictures. Usually, the bottom half of the photo is solid green, and there are usually lines running through the photo, or it is divided into quadrants with one quadrant being ok, but the rest having the green and/or lines.I assume the driver for the card reader is not correct. Card reader works fine in Windows. So I have to reboot into windows, copy pictures from reader to a folder, then reboot into Ubuntu and I can see and open the photos just fine. Just cannot read and copy them from the card while in Ubuntu.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI would like to permanently move the special folders "Desktop", "Pictures" and "Downloads" into the "Documents" folder. Currently they are stored in their default location in my home directory. Can I just drag them there and my system will still work like normal, or do I have to do this with gconf or something like that? I'm running Ubuntu with stock Gnome desktop.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to copy a sample set of files/pictures to a directory on my desktop. For my sample from /home/user/pics containing 7,000+ pictures, I have a desired list of:
Code:
user@computer:/home/user/pics$ ls | tail
I use that to generate a list of a few files that I'd like to move to my desktop. I tried:
Code:
user@computer:/home/user/pics$ ls | tail | cp /home/user/Desktop
I thought that might dump the tail list of files for an argument in the cp command, but no luck. I then tried:
Code:
user@computer:/home/user/pics$ ls | tail | cp . /home/user/Desktop
"ls | tail" output, but no luck.
EVERY SINGLE TIME when I try to close the Nautilus File Browser (ie when I go to my Documents folder), the desktop flashes all the icons on the desktop a couple of times (for a sec you would see no icons on the desktop) before everything goes back to normal.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a strange problem, icons are not showing up correctly in various places, attaching some screens to better show the problem.
Anything I open that has a notification icon, just appears exactly the same, as you can see in one of the screens even hovering over certain things brings up that same icon...
Edit: After some searching I see it's an nvidia bug...
I recently installed virtual box on debian and after it had finished my terminal informed me that I could remove some "unnecessary" software by use of sudo apt-get autoremove. When I did this, some of the icons on the desktop changed and all of the icons in the drop down menu on the bar at the top of the screen also changed to ordinary folder symbols. The theme that I was using also went away. I restarted the computer and it booted back into a shell prompt with no GUI. I tried to get back to the GUI using alt+f7 but it didn't seem to exist

View 1 Replies View RelatedI accidentally deleted a system directory so I had to reinstall. I reinstalled, and setup my users again in the same way. When I tried to copy my user files from a saved source, they now appear on the desktop in mass. What I expect is that only files in the Desktop directory show on the desktop, instead all files in the home directory show on the desktop, less the dot files. I can not figure out how the system controls what files show up on the desktop. Comparing the problem user to a working user failed to disclose the difference.

When I did that and came back I found I have no desktop icons; if I log out and relog back in but switch to classic ubuntu the desktop is fine (of course not the Unity screen). I removed Compiz and attempted to remove and reinstall Unity based on a Google search but nothing changed. Two questions:1. what is the best next move to see if I can get the Unity icons and correct interface back on the desktop.
