I have a strange problem, icons are not showing up correctly in various places, attaching some screens to better show the problem.
Anything I open that has a notification icon, just appears exactly the same, as you can see in one of the screens even hovering over certain things brings up that same icon...
Edit: After some searching I see it's an nvidia bug...
I have just recently installed Fedora 14 Standard Edition. Upon after mounting another parition, I attpempt to find the new partition files in the directory I created for the mount point, but it is not showing. I know the mounted parition is there becuase upon "ls -l /iso", all the files show up.
I had previously tried out Fedora 14, XFE, and this problem did not occur. I also previously installed this same Standard Edition, and this problem did not occur. This is from the exact same download, however, the only difference is I installed Grub into a different partition. But now I am unable to find my new folders in Gnome.
fonts not showing up correctly in web browsers and the likes, more specifically bold fonts. On some sites, these show up correctly, but on others, they don't. I have no idea what's causing this, as it seems to have happened without me doing anything (like, literally, I opened a terminal window, then went back to my browser (Chrome, but I suppose that doesn't matter, as it happens on all browsers) and the problem showed up. Note that these fonts used to show up just fine.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI am running Fedora release 14 (Laughlin) and my Vim version is 'VIM - Vi IMproved 7.3 (2010 Aug 15, compiled Nov 16 2010 17:05:33)'. I've been trying for quite some time to get a more informative status line in my Vim window but to no avail. I am pasting my very last effort which is as simple as possible. Here is my .vimrc file:

The .vimrc file does get processed, I've tried many other 'set statusline' combinations but everything failed.
I've just managed to compress my LVs, extend my VG to my new SSD, move the LVs to the SSD and remove the old disk from the VG. All is well and good (mind you, I did kill my /home partition but it's sorted now...)
My next step was to shrink the PV (I think that's what I want to shrink?) so that I can add another partition to the SSD (to reduce compile times). See below for my current setup. I have a 35G PV with LVs totalling around 33G but the "partition" of the LVM is still 58G.

Recently i have upgraded from Fedora 14 to 15 formating the system partition and reinstalling. Nearly evrithing was flawless, but when i copied my old home directory the images of some of the launchers i have on the desktop are invisible.I use kde 4 with the activity show folder running pointing to the desktop folder. The icons missing are windows programs installed with wine. I copied the icons from one installation to another. I also tried to manually set the icon copying it to a different location and modifying de .desktop.

So I recently installed Ubuntu. I am dual booting with Windows 7. I created a 3rd partition that contains all my music, pictures and videos. So in the Places dropdown menu, as well as in the explorer, I replaced the usual Music, Documents, Videos etc folders with the ones in the Storage partition. However when I did this it made the icons the simple orange folder icons. Is there a way to change them back to the original icons that has the different emblems according to what kind of folder it is?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed 11.04 and came to notice that the icons for my bookmarks in the places menu on the desktop are sometimes present and other times they are not, I have no idea what is causing this but it is from a fresh install all i have done is update. it's a minor issue but small things like this tend to annoy me oh and this is in the default unity session
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm keeping my documents, music, and videos etc. on a separate partition from my home directory, formatted with encrypted fat32 so that I can access it from both my windows and my ubuntu installation. So I've made the folders, transferred the files, and I selected custom icons (by right-click, properties, click on custom icon, then select the file from /usr/share/icons/Humanity/places/4.
So far so good. The problem is that the custom icons don't appear in the Places sidebar in Nautilus or the main Places menu in gnome. It just comes up as a regular folder.

Does anyone have an idea/workaround so that I can use my custom icons in the Places menu as well? I have tried it with scalable icons, with no difference. I've also tried looking for a configuration file which might have the details in, but I haven't found it - I suppose this probably has something to do with how the Places menu is automatically generated.
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala with Gnome.
When I go to Main Menu>Places, nothing but Computer and Network works correctly. Choosing Main Menu>Places>Downloads, for instance, generates a little disk activity, but never displays a window with the contents of the Downloads directory. In an effort to fix the problem, I just upgraded from 10.4 to 1.10, but the same thing still happens. How do I get the Main Menu>Places icons to display the appropriate windows?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have installed Unbuntu on recommendation from two users to get the USGS ISIS program to run on it when OTHER versions of Linux seems to have issuyes..not necessariliy LANY edition of Linux either ... imho after two full months of trying to get USGS and ASU to help give me honest geo-referenced and map-aligned data of all 10 bands each IR image has from Odyssey.. NasaView opens and gives individual bands..but...geo-referencing and map-alignment only ISIS can do.
I finally got it to work when two Ubuntu users got the main lib of ubuntu think certain old libraries are there when not. I think...worked anyhoo the ISIS commands worked...but now...the OUTPUT of the commands are INACCESSABILE! But now the PLACE folders open for a VERY VERY short time about 2-3 seconds, if that, then shuts down again. From the Home terminal I got this list

As you may guess correctly everything between Music and Pictures in the listing is THE stuff produced by the output of the ISIS program made FOR Linux systems. Which One? Well Suse 10 and above not supported anymore and there are others. So I don't know what to do. I thought del meant delete in ANY language...guess not. What's up and how can I delete these files from the Home folder at least so it STAYS OPEN?
I have a pull-down corner on both of my gnome-panels. If I hover my mouse over it, i even get the resize cursor, but you can't actually resize the panel. I'm also seeing them on my screenlets. See the shot below:
The pull-down corners are in the red boxes. It's very clear in the top box on the gnome-panel; it's a little harder to see in the bottom one on the weather screenlet, but it's there. I have a bottom gnome-panel, too, and it's on that one, as well. I just recently noticed them, but I'm not sure where they came from. Does anyone know how to get rid of them? It's not really causing any problems. It just bothers me because I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I've tried searching the web and the forums for a solution but I'm having a hard time finding anything because I don't know the official name for that design element.
I don't fully understand this problem. Using 10.10 on Dell Inspiron 2650.
When I load a DVD or CD the DVD/CD player and disc doesn't show in Places or on the desktop. It doesn't show in Banshee. But using VLC and going to media/open disc/play I can play both the audio CD and the DVD's.
Any idea what the problem is? How do I get the player to show in Places? Should there be an icon on the desk top?
This is probably me looking but not seeing an option somewhere. I re-installed 10.10 over 10.04 by formatting the root partition but keeping the home partition the same, to save me a lot of work. (64 bit) However, now when I mount a CD, DVD or USB stick, they don't appear in Dophin's "Places" window. What have I missed please?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWell I was currently using Ubuntu 9.10 and up until just before the release of 10.04 it was allowing me to view what is now my problem. I attend an online school so this is a big problem for me. I can not view a course button that accesses my course. I was able to view these buttons a while ago in 9.10 but then I couldn't anymore and still can't in 10.04.
I tried results in Firefox, Opera and Konqueror and nothing is different. Here is a picture for what I am trying to show: [URL] The button should be in the lower left of that frame. It is not a website error because it works perfectly on my Windows box. Is there a quick fix like Javascript that is not showing correctly or something similar? AT first I thought it was a theme problem but I changed my theme and no different.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have this problem for a while but didn't notice it until lately(i did reboot the machine for few months). Now that i reboot it frequently i notice that the clock is always not what is supposed to be. I'm in Toronto, Canada so it should be GMT -5:00. Sometimes it shows GMT-6, sometimes -10, now is GMT -11. Anyone would know why i have this issue? I'm running Suse11.1 on a 64 bit. My laptop which runs on 32 bit is working fine.(well probably different versions for kernel and kde.(whatever was in th repository to be updated i updated)

For example, the emacs application icon in panel bar used to be like a goat head. But now it looks like a generic icon, which I cannot tell it is an emacs application. View 1 Replies View RelatedAs can be seen in the title of this post, I'm not quite sure what's going on exactly, but my systemtray icons in Lubuntu 11.04 are not shown the way they should. There's blank space between them, the equivalent of 2 or 3 icons, and the blank space is 'created' while starting up, as though they are programs. See the attached screenshot to get an idea what I'm talking about.I'm really happy with Lubuntu, this is at the moment the only thing that's bugging me. It used to be 2 empty spaces in the systemtray, now it's 3.

For example : an icon on the desktop to open eclipse says eclipse.desktop and doesn't show the eclipse image when i right click a .bz2 file it doesn't show the extract here option for text files, a small bit of the text is showing outside the icon where it usually shows inside The same problems are present in nautilus as well as the desktop.
Need some quick help to reset these to the default.

I have Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit with Firefox 3.6.10 with the Omnibar add-on enabled. When I click on the current search engine's icon to display all my search engines so I can choose another one, the list of my search engines appears but not their icons and other people with the same OS and browser say they don't have this issue. What might be the reason for it?
