Ubuntu :: Desktop Backgrounds Pictures Overlap

Dec 3, 2010

I have been having issues with my desktop background pictures overlapping.

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 on a 2008 2.2ghz white macbook and outputting to a 27" LG monitor through the mini-dvi output. This issue occurred when I was running 10.04 as well.

I've tried editing xrandr:

Code:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 8192 x 8192
VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
LVDS1 connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 286mm x 179mm
1280x800 59.9 +
1024x768 60.0*

[Code].....

Ubuntu :: Cycle Desktop Backgrounds In 11.04?

May 24, 2011

I just updated to 11.04, and noticed in the "Background" tab of the appearance app, that there was what looked like a default option to cycle a set of backgrounds. However, when I selected it, the only background that appeared was the first one in the series, and it never cycled.

1) Is cycling backgrounds possible?

2) If so, can I create my own series of them?

I've been Googl'ing it, but get different options for difference sub-versions.

Any time things appear to be going better, you have overlooked something.

Debian Multimedia :: Desktop Backgrounds Have Smaller Copies On Top Of Themselves?

Apr 6, 2011

Difficult to describe, but basically the desktop background image has a slightly smaller copy of itself (roughly 70% of the original) overlayed in the upper-left hand corner, like a picture-in-picture type of effect. This occurs on both the login screen,d the wallpaper I have set under my account. It seems to be isolated to ONLY the wallpaper, and not affecting any icons or functionality of anything else that I've noticed. Logging out and rebooting have no effect on the issue.

Red Hat :: Unable To Select PNGs As Desktop Wallpaper - JPEG Backgrounds

Apr 21, 2010

I switched our main fileserver to new hardware running RHEL 4 Update 8 yesterday. Post the switch my users are finding that the text in the boxes on taskbars at the bottom of their desktop screens no longer truncates but spills over onto that of other boxes, making them extremely hard to decipher.

All our desktops are RHEL 4.8 too. Also, I'm only able to select PNGs as desktop wallpaper - JPEG backgrounds just appear as plain white when selected(!) Has anyone seen this before and knows of a fix?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Cannot Pull Pictures From SD Card. Pictures Half Green Or With Lines?

May 1, 2011

Running Ubuntu 10.10 along side Windows7 on a 64-bit HP Pavilion dv7 Laptop. Everything works in Windows. Everything works in Ubuntu, except for 2 things.1) I can live with not being able to enable/disable wifi.) I cannot read photos from an SD card plugged into the laptops SD card reader. When I open the SD card in Ubuntu, I can see the file name, but the thumbnails show messed up pictures. Usually, the bottom half of the photo is solid green, and there are usually lines running through the photo, or it is divided into quadrants with one quadrant being ok, but the rest having the green and/or lines.I assume the driver for the card reader is not correct. Card reader works fine in Windows. So I have to reboot into windows, copy pictures from reader to a folder, then reboot into Ubuntu and I can see and open the photos just fine. Just cannot read and copy them from the card while in Ubuntu.

Ubuntu :: Copy A Sample Set Of Files/pictures To A Directory On Desktop?

Jul 6, 2011

I'm trying to copy a sample set of files/pictures to a directory on my desktop. For my sample from /home/user/pics containing 7,000+ pictures, I have a desired list of:

Code:

user@computer:/home/user/pics$ ls | tail

I use that to generate a list of a few files that I'd like to move to my desktop. I tried:

Code:

user@computer:/home/user/pics$ ls | tail | cp /home/user/Desktop

I thought that might dump the tail list of files for an argument in the cp command, but no luck. I then tried:

Code:

user@computer:/home/user/pics$ ls | tail | cp . /home/user/Desktop

"ls | tail" output, but no luck.

Programming :: HTML|CSS - Move Div With Placeholder So That Div In Row Above May Overlap?

Jun 15, 2011

Currently I have an issue with a html page with css layout. I use div blocks to visualize servers within a blade enclosure on a html page. Some servers are fullsize, others are halfsize. The css layout looks ok unless the second row misses some elements. I would need a div that I can use as placeholder so that neighbor divs are placed in the right column. Those placeholder divs should be overlapped by divs from row1 that are bigger in size.

Example: For example if bay 3 and 4 of row1 are occupied by a fullsize blade, 2 divs in 3 and 4 will be missing. The result is that the divs that should be displayed in bay 5 and 6 are placed in bay 3 and 4 instead of bay 5 and 6 where they would belong. Because the "empty space" divs are non overlapable, the "fullsize" divs from row1 column 3 and 4 are truncated. They should span to the second row and the "empty space" divs in row2 column 3 and 4 should move right to column 5 and 6.

Code:

Erronous:

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
ROW1[L][x][L][L][x][x][L][L]
ROW2[L][ ][x][x]......[L][L]

Correct:

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
ROW1[L][x][L][L][X][x][L][L]
ROW2[L][ ][L][L][x][x][L][L]

[code]....

As this html page is automatically generated once a day, I need to use something like a div placeholder as I cannot easily modify the position of an individual element.

Ubuntu :: How To Change Window Backgrounds

May 25, 2010

I'm trying to install an emerald theme while maintaining the Compiz desktop effects. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 Lynx and have installed Emerald Theme Manager and Compiz. I was looking for a good theme to go with my background/laptop and took a liking to this one I'm sure this is a stupid question but how do I install this? By following the link to the rgba true theme, there are "instructions" on how to install it, but I just cant figure it out. I have the window borders setup but I'm stumped on how to get the transparent black window backgrounds(by window backgrounds I mean everything inside the frame). The frame works fine but it looks terrible with the solid white window interior. Can someone tell me how to get this working? I have already tried Compiz opacity (terrible, makes everything unreadable). Every background setting I see is RGB, no transparent setting. If it helps, I'm trying to get everything ~75% transparent, no solid colors.

Ubuntu :: >Backgrounds And Emblems Don't Work?

Jul 16, 2011

In my orig. post I did not state that I was now using gnome in Ubuntu 10.10.I have "light sensitive eyes" and I have to be able to change the back ground colors from white to dark in such programs as Nautilus and editors. This is the main reason I've used KDE for years, it's very easy to change in KDE. I have read the help from:(http://library.gnome.org/users/user-...mblems.html.en) and every thing I can find "here" on changing the background colors to no good. Heres whats happening:I open Nautilus>Edit>Backgrounds and EmblemsI select Patterns>Drag a pattern title to an object to change itBut it don't work. I've tried the same thing with "Colors" and itdon't work.I have dragged using right mouse button, middle button, and left button and they don't work

Does it have anything to do with the black window-resize handle that you have to disable in .gtkrc-2.0-kde4?
