The default ubuntu plymouth theme looked like it was realy small and stretched and made it look weird. anyway i tried to fix that problem by installing another theme This theme now when i reboot my computer it is still small and stretched and the colours are not correct. How can i reset plymouth to how it was by default.
View 2 Repliesreally wish to customize my GDM for ubuntu 11.4 but failed to do so.....therefore i decided to use alt. such as SLiM.....I could install it properly in virtualbox but when i went to do it on my real ubuntu 11.4 ......the screen stops at plymouth theme or goes blank after loading plymouth theme......then i read further more blogs and made changes and now even if i configure SLim the GDM starts no matter what i do .........
PS : I am new to ubuntu and dont have any knowledge about scripting programming and stuff....
I'm unable to reset using either the reset option in gnome shell or the command using a terminal. When I select it the shell exits and displays the graphic "exploding" and then it just sits there. Shutdown works fine; just no reset. Any ideas? I've installed from the DVD. I booted the live CD and it resets just fine so I know it's no my hardware

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using Xubuntu 10.10, with 2.6.35-24-generic kernel. I'm 64-bit. If it helps at all, I'm using xorg-edgers, but that doesn't seem to mean anything here.My issue is that Plymouth is doing absolutely nothing on boot. I know this from using bootchart and seeing that Plymouth launches itself three times, but not seeing anything every boot. The only splash I do see is after I log in, the mouse thing, but that's XFCE.
So, how can I either remove Plymouth entirely, get it working, or find a better splash program? The reason why I ask how to get rid of Plymouth is because it may be entangled in some things that apt-get purge wouldn't fix.
I've been seeing a lot of posts on Plymouth and I was wondering a few things:
1) What exactly is Plymouth supposed to do? Is it supposed to make a fancy splash screen to replace the scrolling Kernel messages (Which is now just a blinking cursor at the top left), and for that matter...
2) Is it supposed to replace bootlogd (Which has been deprecated - by what, who knows?)? I've seen something about "Plymouth Logger" when I was running the updates on Lucid but I'm not sure how it's supposed to work.
3) I do see a splash screen for Kubuntu when I log off, is the same one supposed to be there when the computer is booting. Also is anyone here familiar with Backtrack? In Backtrack when you boot, you get a splash of the Remote Exploit logo, but in the middle there's a box with the kernel boot messages. Can something similar be implemented in Kubuntu? (Forgive my noobishness)
4) If indeed Plymouth has replaced bootlogd as the boot time logger, will it also fix the problem of incomplete boot logs that existed with bootlogd (And spare us from having to use serial consoles in order to check what modules or drivers are failing at boot time so we can optimize our kernels).
just what the title says. i installed a theme from synaptic, but it has no effect.for those of you who don't know, plymouth is the program that shows the boot screen.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed Kubuntu 10.04 on my Desktop computer. Prior to KDM loading, all I get is a blank, black screen with no Plymouth splash screen. I'm confident that this issue is not related to KDE but would apply to all Ubuntu variants. Here are my computer specs:
Kubuntu 10.04 x64 running with all updates
Dell Studio Desktop
Intel Quad-Core Processor 2.66Ghz
8GB ram
Intel Integrated Graphics
I should note that I have full desktop effects running smoothly under KDE with compositing enabled, so my integrated graphics is not necessarily the problem unless Plymouth is not loading the graphics drivers successfully.
I just change the theme to plymouth and also apply this command:
sudo echo FRAMEBUFFER=y > /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash
sudo update-alternatives --config default.plymouth
sudo update-initramfs -u
I know that it made the boot time much longer and now I want to undo/revert the changes that I've made.
I have two Ubuntu installations: a full one and a light/custom. The full one has every default package installed using the Live CD and some extra packages I've been adding as I need them, the custom one is created using debootstrap and then I add some packages: xserver, fluxbox, alsa... among others.
But I have one problem: plymouth shows a low-res splash screen for the custom installation, while it works great with the full one. Both running on the same motherboard and with the same monitor. Besides, I need to set the FRAMEBUFFER=y option in the custom installation to make plymouth show the splash screen at boot.
I've tried setting GRUB_GFXMODE, GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD and GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX for GRUB without any change, I'd like to know what other programs/drivers/configurations may affect Plymouth resolution so that I could find what is preventing my custom installation from showing a nice plymouth splash screen.
I am trying to boot in to ubuntu 10.10 from a usb on my desktop but i can't seem to get past the purple screen with "ubuntu" and the flashing dots. The purple dots scroll for a bit but then all turn purple. I'm trying to do this on a hp compaq with a pentium 4 and from what i can tell nothing is wrong with it.

I removed and reinstalled the Plymouth packages to no avail.. Anyone know how I can at least get rid of this error from appearing (like somehow changing a .conf file to not even try and "connect" to Plymouth)?
I did try the sudo apt-get update and all those other commands as listed on other sites. I went through the basic Google search so after the first 4 pages, I'm outta ideas.
I have searched the forums on this problem and I am still not really clear on the fix for this or even if I should wait for final release. I am running Lucid 64bit and have upgraded through the cycle from Karmic. I am using nvidia proprietary drivers. All the time that the Plymouth boot screen has been available it has been in low resolution. As we are now at beta 2 I am torn between searching a fix or waiting for the final release. So, from what I have read I need the 'nouveau' driver to fix this issue.
1. How do I install this in place of my existing nvidia proprietary driver?
2. I am a little bit confused by the hardware drivers selection panel telling me that I have an nvidia driver installed but that it is not in use-I read that this might be a bug?
I just upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and everything went fine. No problems other then there is no animation while booting. It just goes to the login screen (ugly tree ) . I have a feeling it has something to do with the nvidia card (fx5200) i am using the 173 driver. Because the screen switches resloutions and no Nvidia screen is showing as in the previous version 9.10. Any ideas on how to fix this?? I did a search and came up with no good answers yet. The Nvidia seems to be working fine everywhere else so far.

Could that possibly be it? And if so, how do I fix this. 10.04 Nvidia graphics Is there another solution to plymouth? I tried splashy and usplash wont install. So anyone else know a way.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMost of the time instead of a pretty graphical splash I'm getting a small low res text version of the boot screen squeezed into the top left hand corner of my display on my laptop with Intel GMA4500 graphics.
Originally I was getting a blank screen with the Plymouth splash only appearing a couple of seconds before log-in. Adding FRAMEBUFFER=y to /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash got rid of the blank screen but at the expense of the ugly boot screen mentioned above. To confuse matters, now and again (roughly 1 boot out of 10) I am getting a perfect graphical boot. I've tried reinstalling Plymouth and using different boot themes but to no avail.
On one of my server plymouth is consuming a lot of memory.I want to disable it.I tried uninstalling but then it gave me a message like this

Basically, I put this in the Terminal: sudo update-alternatives --config default.plymouth
I then selected a theme (I believe it was spinning something or other). Then I entered: sudo update-initramfs -u
Now, when I boot up, it just sits on a blank screen after I select to start up with ubuntu. I can't boot into ubuntu at all.

It's fixed and ok when I'm on AC Adapter only. When my laptop booting from battery the problem with black boot screen remains. Why? Is there another option for graphics or plymouth when the AC Adapter is plugged?

I want to change my splash screen (it's currently set to the Macbuntu one), but it won't start up when clicked on. Fooling around with trying to edit splash themes, and in trying to apply one, I broke the startup splash. The shutdown splash still works. I know that update-initramfs -u is supposed to fix this, but it hasn't. I run dpkg-reconfigure plymouth, and it gives me the list of themes; I can pick one, and it seems to do its thing; I run update-initramfs -u, and that looks like it worked too; but then I reboot, and the shutdown splash is unchanged, and the startup splash is just a black screen until GDM loads. It's as if I hadn't changed anything.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed the earth sunrise plymouth theme with super boot manager, and it worked, but only when I was turning it off, it still works when I'm turning it on, except it sits there for like 30 seconds blinking an underscore and then the theme starts up and does nothing for about 3 seconds (it doesn't animate or whatever), and then the gdm screen comes up, so why isn't plymouth really working on startup? and is there a way to fix it?
