Ubuntu Multimedia :: Toshiba Quosmio Speaker Not Muted On Headphone Jack Insertion?

Jul 28, 2011

My only glitch with Ubuntu, which runs flawlessly on this beast, otherwise.I have spent more than 50 hours on this problem. In my case, inserting headphone jack doesn't mute internal speakers. There is sound in the headphone though.alsamixer ot gnome-alsamixer doesn't even show the headphone option. So I cannot change their values.I have tried model= various options, with no avail.I have uploaded my information to alsa projct and the link is: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=18...788fc1458ff422

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Cannot Set Headphone Volume In Alsamixer

Jul 21, 2010

since updating my laptop to 10.04, I can't get any sound out of my headphones. If I plug the jack in, the sound from the loudspeakers turns off, but the headphones stay quiet.

I have run alsamixer and in fact the volume for the headphones is stuck to zero, and it's not possible to increase it.

My hardware config is posted here: [URL]

What I find funny, is that amixer reports that I don't have the capability of regulating the headphone volume:

Simple mixer control 'Headphone',0
Capabilities: pswitch penum
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
Mono:
Front Left: Playback [on]
Front Right: Playback [on]

I have also used the AlsaUpgrade script to get the latest version of alsa, but it still doesn't work.

Ubuntu / Apple :: MacBook (Pro) 5,1 / 5,2 - Master Volume Does Not Affect The Headphone Output

Jan 13, 2010

Whilst sound works for MBP5,1 / 5,2 under Karmic, it could definitely be better - mainly the master volume does not affect the headphone output, and the speakers don't automute when headphones are plugged in. However, I've finally got around to writing a patch for alsa which fixes this - the patch is against the latest version of alsa-drivers (1.0.22.1). If you want to test it (since so far I've only tested it on my MBP5,1 - any feedback from MacBook 5,1 / MB(P) 5,2 owners would be great too) follow these instructions: First make sure you don't have any versions of linux-backports-modules-alsa installed:

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Headphone / Speaker Output Affected By Volume Control

Jun 25, 2010

Just switched my laptop from that other operating system to openSUSE11.2. Everything works great except for one odd little bug. Both my speakers and headphones have output, are affected by the volume control and it even detects when I plug in headphones and stops output to the speakers. However the moment I adjust the volume, output to my headphones stops, and my speakers start.

Debian Multimedia :: How To Have Volume Buttons On Laptop Change 'pcm' Channel Volume Rather Than 'master'?

Jun 13, 2010

I'm running squeeze (last updated today), and everything has been working great. There is only thing that would simplify my life minutely..Anybody know how can I have the volume buttons on my laptop change the "pcm" channel volume rather than "master"? If they could control pcm, then I could adjust the volume coming out of my headphones or my computer speaker (both controlled by pcm, but not master...seems strange to me) with just one click.I tried to find this info online, but all results seem to refer to an older version. The simple "click here, set this" solution no longer is possible.

Ubuntu :: Volume Difference - Is There A Change In The Max Of Volume?

Apr 26, 2011

Just wondering if anyone else experienced this. I have been using Ubuntu for half a year now and I love it. I just installed Kubuntu Desktop to try it out and I found that I can't get near as high volume with it than I do with Ubuntu. Ubuntu is even way louder than the Windows that used to be on here.

So why is there a change in the max of volume? I am a huge music person and that is the only thing holding me back from getting rid of gnome. I like how fresh and clean KDE is.

Ubuntu :: Change Volume Name Now Can't Access?

Feb 12, 2010

I wanted to change the name of one of volumes/partitions from "New Volume" to "Photos". I had two "new volumes" and it was getting confusing. Thinking this would be an easy process I went into nautilus (gksudo nautilus) and right-clicked on the icon representing the volume, selected Rename and typed in "Photos". I now cannot access that volume from Ubuntu but I can from Windows XP (where it is still labelled "New Volume). When I try to access it I get the error message: "Cannot mount Volume. You are not privileged to mount the volume 'New Volume' " This is the readout from fstab:

Ubuntu :: USB Insertion Hangs System / Stop It To Do So?

Dec 19, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10, 64-bit on an HP 8740w. Sometimes (I don't have the frequency yet, but it has happened a half-dozen times in the past couple of weeks) when I insert a USB storage device the system hangs, requiring a power-cycle. I have been careful to either eject or "safely remove" every USB device, but it still happens. I believe it only happens when I remove a device and later re-insert it, but I don't have enough data points to be sure.

Most of the time, I'm running VirtualBox, but I haven't captured the USB device in a VM.

First question - how can I go about figuring out what might be going wrong? Once it happens, my options are extremely limited (power switch). When this happened one time I left the system for 30+ minutes, and it did not recover.

Of course, when I wanted to see it, I did 10 insertions/removals without a hang.

General :: Insertion Of Vbr And VBR End Delay More

Apr 22, 2011

I am using Ubuntu marvic amd64 10.10. I installed ns-allinone 2.34. then I inserted vbr traffic according to one of forum from this linux " Insertion steps of VBR into NS2.34" I made the following changes

Makefile, line 36 : CC = gcc-4.3
Makefile, line 37 : CPP = g++-4.3
vbr_traffic.cc in ns2.34/tools then Makefile : tools/vbr_traffic.o of 183

then I use the command cd ns-allinone-2.34/ns-2.34/ && mv ns ns234 && make after that I delete the ns. with the new command I run the script with every time puase time 0 and simulation time 200, 10 250, 20 300, 40 400..... with DSR after completion of simulation, when i was try to plot graph between throughputs of receiving bits vs Maximul end to end delay, every time I got the delay more than 90, 100, etc so how can I reduce that problem. I thought problem was in insertion of vbr.

Programming :: Run A Script At Usb Insertion?

Sep 20, 2010

I'm trying to run clamAV antivirus on USB insertion. I read about "udev" but it seems to be very complicated. I thought about running the script when the /media folder changes. I couldn't do that either.

I'm running MS "XP" on virtualbox and I'm sharing the /media folder from the host to the guest that's why I need an ON-DEMAND antivirus that scans the usb disk on insertion. (Light scan[neglecting archives and large files] is preferred to not overload the processor).

The script will contain the clamAV command line. The problem is how to set the execution time of the script...

Ubuntu :: Fullscreen Flash Crashes When Try To Change Volume?

Nov 5, 2010

I just did a fresh install of ubuntu 10.10 after having been on windows again for a few years. It's not coming back as easily as I'd like.Anyways right after the install I noticed flash crashed when I tried to enter fullscreen. To fix this, I deselected hardware acceleration (per some other post on here, sorry can't remember to give credit). Now when I'm in full screen, it freezes the video if I try to change my volume level. Sound continues to play but the video doesn't move and I can't exit fullscreen or bring up the player bar at the bottom of the screen.I think this has more to do with the volume indicator coming up than the fact that the volume is changing i.e. anything that popped up like that would cause the problem.

So I turned to this forum, which I should have done in the first place.
