i try to install mac4lin, then i found it not nice, then i decided to uninstall it. everything is back to original fedora 12 theme, except this volume controller image. is there any way to change it back to original fedora 12 volume controller image?

Volume up, volume down and mute keys on the keyboard don't control the volume any longer.They worked before. Hitting the keys brings up a progress bar widget with the volume level unchangeable, set at 0% (which is not accurate at all).It looks like the key mappings or key bindings are working, but there is a disconnect with actual functionality. The volume cannot be changed or muted anymore from the keyboard.
This worked just fine in KDE on Fedora 11 before upgrading KDE components yesterday with Yumex. I am now using KDE 4.3.2 I don't think that it's a coincidence that it stopped working after doing an update.
I updated the kernel and nVidia drivers too, but this problem exists when I went back and tested with the previous kernel, so I don't suspect the kernel upgrade. No info in Xorg.conf about the keyboard. Is there a setting that I am missing?
Sound works just fine. I can listen to whatever source I like. This is not a problem with the sound drivers as far as I can tell.I just want to be able to control the volume with the keys on my Logitech Illuminated Keyboard, model Y-UY95. Is anyone else experiencing this?I can adjust the volume with Kmix 3.5 or GNOME Volume Control V2.1
I feel little silly asking this, I accidently removed from my gnome panel my internet connection, volume control and battery indicator on F11. how can I add this back. It does not show up in the add to panel menu and the applications do not give you back the default feel.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow do i change the channel gnome-volume-control controls? I want it to control pcm but it controls master front. There used to be a setting right in the sound preferences but i think it disappeared with the 9.10 upgrade or at least i can not find it anymore. I've looked on the at gnome alsa mixer while changing the volume and master front gets controlled while pcm is always set to max. The problem with this is that master front does almost nothing to change the actual volume.
If i control pcm with the alsa mixer the volume range is fine. I've found a manual for gnome-volume-control on [URL].en and the pic there actually looks like i remember it looking. But i can not get to that screen. What i have looks completely different. Its a window with the tabs Sound Effects | Hardware | Input | Output | Applications. But there is no sight of any channel settings and the only slider there does the same as the applet one.
Randomly my volume control in the system tray are gone and my laptop volume control wheel doesnt work even when toogling it like usually a bar shows the volume percent but now nothing happens.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to default volume to 100% in the terminal with gnome-volume-control-applet or any other program? I am setting up a dedicated Zsnes machine which boots into Fluxbox but the volume is muted by default. There isn't a man page for gnome-volume-control-applet.
When I log into Gnome the volume is set to 100%, but Fluxbox is always set to mute.
I'm running Kubuntu 10.10 32 bit on an old DFI KT600AL motherboard based system using the onboard VIA 3058 AC97 audio (because it supports front panel audio connections and none of the add-in PCI soundcards I have do). I have an old Gateway/STB TVPCI TV tuner card (mainly wanted the FM radio part to work) hooked up to the cd audio connector on the motherboard because the digital audio over the pci bus apparently isn't supported for this card (neither is the onboard analog mixer on the tv tuner card, I had to hack a CD-ROM audio cable and solder it to the audio outputs of the tv tuner module on the TV tuner card). When I use the master channel as the master channel (selected in Kmix) then as one would expect it affects the output volume of all other audio playing on the system except that which is being handled by the PCM channel. On Windows the PCM channel was also affected by the "Volume Control" slider such that ALL volume levels were reduced when moving the slider. I'm hoping someone can help me figure out how to make it work like this on Kubuntu.
First off I should warn you that I (like many users of older hardware that is not properly supported under PulseAudio) have uninstalled PulseAudio (because it's garbage) and am using Alsa to manage my audio hardware. I would think that there would be some way to do this using the 'amixer' application to add the PCM channel as a component of the 'Master' channel so that when the volume is turned down using the 'Master' channel control it will affect the PCM channel too (at least the output to the speaker jack, not necessarily the capture or mix volume though), but I'm not really any good at doing things from a terminal window and the options for the amixer command kind of confused me.

1. Problem: I cannot regulate the volume of the phones (output) anymore with gnome-volume-control. By default the volume is set to 100% which is way too loud. When I set it under 100% there is no sound at all. Values over 100% work.
2. Problem: The X server is freezing iregulary when I connect the headset and disconnect it, Magic SysRq works. I checked Xorg.0.log and found out that it recognizes the usb headset as keyboard:

I'm using 10.04 now and it runs ok, except one strange thing in the Volume control applet. Sometimes, when I click on the volume slider, it moves up. Even if I try to slide it down, it moves up on every click. The same when I click left of it - it keeps moving up! This is very annoying at night when the music gets loud and wakes everybody. It happens with or without Compiz turned on

If i put the scrollbar to the 0 position, it is muted. when i move it to anywhere else, i get the full volume. From other programs like vlc, i can adjust the volume with no problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy volume control seems to have only three settings: TOO LOUD, VERY QUIET, OFF. If I adjust the Master volume slider from the Panel, only about the right 1/8th has any effect and if I slide it past about the 95% mark, I get no sound at all. At the far-right end of the volume control, I get total volume. It's basically like the slider only has any impact in the top 5% of it's space. Below 95% of the slide, there is zero volume.
It's so drastic, that one tap down of the volume button on my keyboard kills the sound (because it nudges the slider past that 95% mark). This happens in the Audio settings, etc., system-wide. If I adjust the volume for an individual app from within the app (MPlayer, for example) it behaves exactly as expected (that is, app volume works smoothly, it's just master volume that has this issue). I have run through most of the "obvious" things-- I'm wondering if I broke something by installing the extra KDE packages to get Amarok to work.
I am having issues with Fedora 11 and audio. I have pulse audio running and configured. The volume control on the top panel (GDE) works properly, but i do not hear any volume until I move it up past 50%. I tested it with the advanced volume controls opened and it even shows the master volume not moving until the volume slider on the panel reaches at least 50%. Can anybody help with fixing this. I use the laptop like a remote control to control my desktop through vnc while watching movies, but changing volume through this setup is a bit too cumbersome and clumsy. I tried alsamixer but it behaves strangely and doesn't change volume.
Laptop is Dell Latitude C600/C500 with Pentium III 850Mhz, 256Kb L2 Cache, 256MB RAM, ATI M3 video card, HD 20005 MB and sound card is EES Maestro 3i. After trying to do something with Windows 2000 which was installed on the machine, I decided to put Linux without keeping windows on the machine. First I try with Xubuntu (latest version) which was working but slowly, then I found that Debian could work fine on that machine. I have installed latest version 5.08 and was surprised how goodly old machine can work. I solved problems with screen resolution (change from 800x600 to 1024x768) but I couldn't find solution how to fix problem with sound.
Actually I don't have sound on the machine. I looked for a linux driver for that sound card and Dell is only providing windows drivers. Then I found that I can solve the problem with ALSA drivers but I couldn't find the easy way (or any way at all) to install drivers and to get back the sound. When I click on 'Volume Control' (top right corner of the screen) I get the message: 'Volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plugins installed, or that you don't have a sound card configured.'
I have two kinda weird problems that have been preventing me from wasting my time!
1. I can go to a flickr page and see the first picture fine. When I use the browse buttons and/or try and change to another picture, firefox crashes.
2. When viewing pictures in facebook (the only reason I use it is to share pictures with my far-off family who doesn't get to see my kids often) the pictures are very badly pixelated.
I'm using an Acer Aspire laptop (Intel 915 graphics, celeron processor, 1.5GB ram) with a completely up to date Fedora 12 installation. The weird part is, my wife's netbook, (1GB ram, Intel 945 graphics) with Fedora 12, displays everything fine. I'm cometely stumped how one machine is having such issues while another isn't. This problem existed in F10 when I used up until the F12 release so I'm presuming it is a graphics card problem (???) since the software and OS has changed.Does anyone know what might be going on or how I can check?
After running my computer for a while, my volume control always messes up. I wonder if it is some app. Mute, raise, lower volume all fail, and so does the little volume icon in my notification area. When the computer boots up things are fine. I can do some more testing later to try and pinpoint the source but I need to wait a few hours for a download to finish. I can still use Advanced Volume Control and all the options there work.

View 9 Replies View Relatedinstalled F12 and noticed that the volume control applet is now all Pulseaudio rubbish, not Alsa like gmixer used to be. So now I don't seem to be able to mute my speakers when I'm using my headset, which in F10 I could do by just muting LFE/Center.Note I don't want the speakers to be disabled when I have the headphones plugged in (like Jack does) I just want to be able to control volume of the mixer channels individually - as sometimes I'll be playing music through the speakers and will receive a Skype call and want to mute the music, but also don't want the Skype sound coming out of the speakers - just the headphones.
I've tried setting up 4.1+input, 5.1+input, 4.0+input etc; but for some reason, even though the PulseAudio mixer thing has 5 individual sliders, they do nothing as they "jump" back to 100% when you slide them - even with the channels unlocked. gmixer and alsamixer do the job, but pulseaudio is the applet and only seems to control the master volume, not the individual channels. Any ideas - or perhaps a way to make gnome-volume-control revert back to actually being gmixer?
I have been using Tvtime for several years and never had trouble with the video until now. Now it opens, but it's frozen. There is no picture and no sound, just a black screen that I can't control in any way. Even to close it, I have to go through the terminal.I can still get channels using Mplayer, so the tuner should not be the problem. However, t is an Hauppauge 950.I was using Lucid on both partitions. Initially, one quit,but not the other. About a month later the other quit while I was watching which makes me think it may be something I have simply hit on the keyboard. I have since upgraded to Maverick on one and reinstalled Tvtime to no avail

There is only thing that would simplify my life minutely..Anybody know how can I have the volume buttons on my laptop change the "pcm" channel volume rather than "master"? If they could control pcm, then I could adjust the volume coming out of my headphones or my computer speaker (both controlled by pcm, but not master...seems strange to me) with just one click.I tried to find this info online, but all results seem to refer to an older version. The simple "click here, set this" solution no longer is possible.

I just installed Kubuntu Desktop to try it out and I found that I can't get near as high volume with it than I do with Ubuntu. Ubuntu is even way louder than the Windows that used to be on here.
So why is there a change in the max of volume? I am a huge music person and that is the only thing holding me back from getting rid of gnome. I like how fresh and clean KDE is.

How do you change the volume of the terminal alert bell in F11? (the sound you hear when you press the tab button). I turned the sound all the way down and muted the "Alert volume" in System>Pref>Sound but I still get a deafening bell sound whenever I press the tab button.

I've installed 13.1 and the new GSB. I like it a lot (better than old versions), but the volume applet doesn't work.I did some reading and apparently this is due to a conflict between the GNOME people and the Pulse Audio people. View 10 Replies View RelatedNewbie slackware user here, I'm having some issues getting keyboard volume control to work properly.I recently fixed my network adapter problem and I managed to get flash player installed despite my minimal knowledge of linux and slackware, but there's yet another small glitch that I can't fix.When I'm logged in as root, keyboard volume controls work perfectly, mute mutes the audio + increases the percentage, - decreases the percentage, etc.However, when I'm logged in as another user and I try to use keyboard volume controls, the bar will pop up in the middle of the screen, but it will be stuck at 0% no matter that I do. (Sound still plays though, it seems that volume is at 100% while the bar in the middle reads 0%).

Most of the time I can't change the system wide volume setting by pressing the function keys on my laptop (the volume indicator doesn't even show up). When that happens (and I havent't been able to find out why and under what conditions that happens) the volume applet on my panel also becomes useless. Useless meaning that I can slide the slider up and down with no effect on the audible volume. I can still change the volume within the individul applications (rhythmbox, totem, ...) with success.
Adjusting the volume via gst-mixer or pavucontrol does also works as expected. It's really just the volume keys and the panel applet that refuse to cooperate.
About this system (pretty standard intel_hda, no problems with F10)code...
I did a clean DVD install of 11.3 instead of the upgrade. I'm using a 64 bit Panasonic CF-52 Toughbook with a 250 Gig removable drive. I have noticed on 11.3 that the on-screen volume control applet is gone! It was right next to the battery and the WiFi indicators on 11.2 but it is gone with 11.3.
Now what ever you listen to is FULL BLAST! It makes you go back to the desktop and use the hardware adjusters on the laptop. Even the usual keyboard key combos are not responding. It can be embarrassing especially in quiet, public settings.
I believe I'm using Ubuntu 9.1 (how can I know for sure anyway?) and I use Harman Karman sound sticks that I got from a Mac. I use a Gateway PC and the volume control in the upper right toolbar of the desktop doesn't work. If I want to adjust the volume intensity I go into System > Preferences > Sound > Applications and I adjust the Firefox volume control. Sound comes through the speakers perfectly but I can't adjust volume with the desktop icon.
