I have an iphone 3G and I am sick and tired of iTunes and also because I cant get iTunes to work on Ubuntu, this means I have to duel boot windows just because of my phone.I am looking for an Android phone that will works flawlessly on Ubuntu, by that I mean be able to update my phone when a new Android version comes out and add music and videos to my phone.Right now I am considering :Samsung Galaxy S Captivate Sony Ericsson Xperia X10I am with Rogers, CanadaAnybody own one of these phones and using Ubuntu ?
whether iTunes will work through WINE in Ubuntu? Or is it not that simple? The reason I ask is because I have one iPod left (my wifes) and I need itunes for this, but I want to be on Linux from now on. Am I stuck? Will I always need windows? Or can I really escape the circle of evil licensed software! (who doesn't love some over dramatics
I cant seem to get iTunes to work no matter what I try, I installed WINE and various versions of iTunes, depending on what the guide that im following tells me to do. I usually get most of the way through and then something that i'm suppose to put into the terminal doesn't work. Itunes sometimes freezes the computer when i try and use it, and sometimes it gets to the point where it says something about not being able to work because qucktime wont work and i have to reinstall itunes, which i try to do, which does nothing.
I have a computer with a 64 bit processor, and an ipod touch. I am willing to go to whichever version of Ubuntu that works best with whichever version of itunes, i don't have anything important saved so going to a different version of the OS isn't a big deal. I have to have itunes because I have to back up my music onto something.
So, which version of Ubuntu is best with itunes (i have ubuntu 9.10) and has anyone used a guide that is proven to work recently? If their easer method of getting my music onto my computer, im open to that as well.
I'm looking for the best iTunes alternative that has almost these features:
- being able to edit the track's name/album (songs in the iPod) - adjusting volume of tracks
I'm currently using Rhythmbox. I have tried Exaile and Amarok just doesn't work for me. I can't recall what made me turn away from Banshee, too. I'm not really into Wine so installing iTunes itself is not viable.
Just installed Ubuntu 9.10 and fully updated .I tried to install itunes through wine and as you can guess it didn't work .What are my alternatives and will they still allow me to add and remove music form my I-pod because I'd rather not have to boot into my winblows partition just to update my music seeing as I've enough of winblows
I have a new ipod and It was working just fine with my old windows system until I switched to ubuntu, I tried installing iTunes with wine but it didnt work and my ipod will only sync as a camera, i cant pass misuc over to the ipod and viceversa. What do i do to sync my ipod P.S. I tried installing mulitple multimedia programs that sayd they synched to iTunes but nothing helped.
I just got a new iphone (yay me) but later realised that as I have Ubuntu, it is very difficult to get itunes installed on it.
Having said that, I've got Wine installed and attempted to download itunes 7.something and even though the whole process worked, it appears that when I try to access itunes the whole screen goes black and then if I scroll across the screen with my mouse it lights up various bits of what's behind the black screen and then after a while it tells me that it cannot access itunes at all...
So I thought, perhaps I should uninstall itunes, but in doing that it still appeared in my wine folder, so I uninstalled wine, which still appeared in my Applications list, so I edited my applications list and then tried to re-install wine from scratch (I know I sound dumb already - but I was desperate ok!!!). So now wine is installed on my computer somewhere but it now doesn't show up in my Applications list at all and I can't seem to get it back on there - any suggestions there would also help...
But my main objective is to try and uninstall itunes properly (maybe from the terminal window - but I don't know how to even do that) and attempt to re-install it to see if it works again.
I need to do this in order to sync my iphone. Cannot seem to do it with Amarok as I don't have Installer.Apps on my iphone, and cannot get THAT without syncing it with itunes to begin with....
I have ubuntu on my laptop, i haven't updated it to 10.4 yet but i've only had it on here for a couple weeks. Anyways, i plugged my ipod into the computer and had it working with rhythmbox just fine. However, when i unplugged my ipod, i looked at it and there are no songs, absolutely nothing. When i plug it back in, it shows on rhythmbox that i have all my songs back...but the second i take it out there are no songs. I don't know what this problem is, but basically i just want itunes back :[ I guess theres something about getting a virtual machine to be able to run itunes with? that sounds nice...but is it super complicated?
a friend of mine is interested in downloading this program. Does anybody know if its worthwhile. She is looking to convert her old DVD'S to put into itunes so she can view them on her tablet.
also the program is not in the ubuntu library. is it ok to download this program from its page.
I am trying to install itunes 9 and 8 both in my ubuntu 9.10 with wine, how ever everytime the installation fails. In itunes 8 it says quicktime is not installed even though under the program it says it is and in itunes 9 after a while it says an error has occured. i need to sync my Iphone with my computer immedately.
A user has brought me a box with a corrupted other os on it (is not bootable). I have booted to a live cd and am copying off the user data, but I'm concerned about thier itunes database. I checked google, but all the backup restore options seem to require a working itunes install.
what files do you all usually back up to transfer itunes info to a new build?
I was using the gnome-shell for a little bit to get accustomed to the coming change in march but I removed it. Shortly after, I decided to update my wine, and get the lastest itunes.exe. I save the exe, allowed executing permissions and ran the install. IT WORKED. I did not allow it to be my default player, and I did not allow autorun. whenever i open it says installation error but I hit ok and I am graced with itunes. I still can sync my iphone with it, I guess it can't recognize it.
occasional crashes when I get click happy but playback works most of the time. some times i have to logout in order to try it again. authorized itunes purchases work thru it.
I want to move all my music from my mac to my ubuntu laptop and change the format to ogg. I am looking for advice on the best(best=easy) way to do this. My music is in MP3 and AAC formats now.
What in your opinions are the best iTunes alternatives?
I plan on getting an iPod touch soon, and need to be able to...
-Change settings (maybe) -Sync Music -Sync Games (IMPORTANT) -Sync Movies -Be able to categorize videos into TV shows or movies and by season.
If there isnt something that cant do all of that, getting itunes 10 to work on Wine/PlayonLinux, Because it installs, but just looks very messed up when I open it.
I have a new 16GB nano ipod, and I "initialized" it in Rhythmbox. I added about 6GB of music into it (via Rhythmbox). When I eject and disconnect the ipod, it tells me that 6GB are occupied, but the music directory says that it's empty. Does the ipod need to be "initialized" in itunes? I have another ipod that was first used in itunes and it never gave me any issues with Rhythmbox.I have two machines running Ubuntu 9.10. I can't get itunes working with wine, and I don't have a mac or a windows machine.
This may come across as a bit of an isolated and complex problem, but I haven't been able to get my iPod Nano 5th Generation to have any sort of compatibility with any iPod management programs (except with using Nautilus I guess). This includes gtkpod, Banshee and Rhythmbox. With Rythmbox, my iPod shows up in the pane, but I cannot interact in anyway except ejecting it. There aren't any msgbox errors.Banshee cannot read the iTunes database or something and insists that I rebuild the database on the ipod so I can use it with banshee. I did and gained full access to Banshee's iPod management with all the features it carries. I moved my music library on to the ipod but the thing states that I have zero songs whilst banshee states otherwise.
iTunes on my Windows PC will show that I have x number of GB of "other" information after using Banshee to move music. It seems that it is transferring data sufficiently but is not recognising it as "audio" gtkpod wont let me manage the iPod before or after Banshee's tampering.
Im wondering if theres an Itunes alternative for Ubuntu? Basicly in windows i only used Itunes to listen to its Radio function which has hundreds of channels i can listen too depending on which genre i choose id love it if theres an alternative or a way to make Itunes work in Ubuntu 10.04 X64 bit.
I downloaded iTunes and am successfully running it though Wine. However, whenever I try to "Authorize Computer" or go to the iTunes store, iTunes won't connect to my network. I know it is not a network issue because I can surf Chrome at the same time iTunes says it can't connect. Is this fixable or is it not possible to "Authorize Computer"?
how do i add all of my itunes files i have saved on windows to my amarok library. i am running linux and windows on same machine, when i boot up it asks me which OS to start. i tried playing a .m4a song in amarok, but it wouldn't play
I have my iPhone synced with iTunes like the rest of the world. I played music music from my iPhone with rythmbox, nd now iTunes doesn't know that my iPhone is even there, and therefor won't sync. Would mounting it to Ubuntu have anything to do with that?
I got the XP 32 bit newest version of iTunes from the iTunes website. I got the newest version of Wine from the Ubuntu Software Center. I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10
So when I install iTunes it seems to work because it goes through the whole install process. But when I click the iTunes icon to launch it I Get a little box with this error message:
Apple Application Support was not found
Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again.
Error 2 (Windows error 2)
So what can I do to fix this? I already uninstalled then re installed iTunes like the message says to do but I still keep getting the same error.
I have found simple ways to transfer my downloaded music from Windows (file uploading and then downloading, the non-technical easy way), but iTunes doesn't really allow you to download your music - from what I know (non-technical person here).
I have wubi because this is a family computer, and my sister's a gamer (once I convince them to use this, I will find a way to make those games to work here). I also will start buying music from Amazon soon so it'll work here.
How do I first of all download the bought music from iTunes?
