how do i add all of my itunes files i have saved on windows to my amarok library. i am running linux and windows on same machine, when i boot up it asks me which OS to start. i tried playing a .m4a song in amarok, but it wouldn't play
View 1 RepliesAfter upgrading from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 (yes I'm a bit slow on the update), Amarok no longer displays or plays my itunes collection.
the Itunes collection is on a separate drive in a dual boot configuration (Win XP Pro). Drive is mounted and I can navigate to the music directory in the file browser. Also Amarok can see the directory when I try to rescan my collection.
When I rescan the collection - drilling down to the correct directory - amarok appears to be scanning the diretory. However when it is complete, the collection header (in the local music view) shows the music share with a track count, but the sub directories (album, artist, etc.) is empty.
I have removed and re-installed Amarok, and cleaned up the itunes directory - no change in the behavior.
Amarok reliably played the itunes collection in previous ubuntu distros (9.01, 9.04, 8.10, etc...).
What do I need to do to get the collection visible?
I am running 10.04 Gnome. I have installed Amarok and would like to use the Shoutcast internet radio streams. How do you do that?

Is there anyway to export lyrics from Amarok 1.4 and import them in Amarok 2?

I'm currently using Rhythmbox. I have tried Exaile and Amarok just doesn't work for me. I can't recall what made me turn away from Banshee, too. I'm not really into Wine so installing iTunes itself is not viable.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got a new iphone (yay me) but later realised that as I have Ubuntu, it is very difficult to get itunes installed on it.
Having said that, I've got Wine installed and attempted to download itunes 7.something and even though the whole process worked, it appears that when I try to access itunes the whole screen goes black and then if I scroll across the screen with my mouse it lights up various bits of what's behind the black screen and then after a while it tells me that it cannot access itunes at all...
So I thought, perhaps I should uninstall itunes, but in doing that it still appeared in my wine folder, so I uninstalled wine, which still appeared in my Applications list, so I edited my applications list and then tried to re-install wine from scratch (I know I sound dumb already - but I was desperate ok!!!). So now wine is installed on my computer somewhere but it now doesn't show up in my Applications list at all and I can't seem to get it back on there - any suggestions there would also help...
But my main objective is to try and uninstall itunes properly (maybe from the terminal window - but I don't know how to even do that) and attempt to re-install it to see if it works again.
I need to do this in order to sync my iphone. Cannot seem to do it with Amarok as I don't have Installer.Apps on my iphone, and cannot get THAT without syncing it with itunes to begin with....
the problem is Amarok cant play these files so i dont have them in collection till i dont give here password, so amarok must again Scan all the files (about 6000 songs) and it takes long and i want to know any way to skip this.

All other threads i can find on this kind of thing also have Amarok not playing flac....but if i drag and drop them in, they play just fine, so i know its not a codec problem.
Is there something i have to enable? Like in some media players, you can set which formats are scanned for...but i cant seem to find such a feature available in any of the Amarok settings...
I'm running Amarok 1.4 on Linux Ubuntu 9.10, and out of the blue it tells me it cannot play .mp3 files. When it asks if I want .mp3 support, I click "Yes", then nothing happens. flac, .m4u, & other files play fine.

Now amarok crashes whenever I go into configuration or browse through local files. I have tried reinstalling and deleting the directory ~/.kde/share/apps but no use.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Amarok 2.4 today and am attempting to use it to sync my music to my iPod Touch. .mp3 files transfer perfectly, but for some reason any .m4a file is being reassigned a .mp4 extension and being relegated to the 'Video' app on the iPod. I do realise that an .m4a is just .aac audio in an mp4 wrapper, why Amarok and/or the iPod is deciding to treat them like a video instead? It's doing it both to my own ffmpeg-encouded .m4as as well as unprotected .m4as from the iTunes Store (relics of my time on Windows). Anyone know what might be going on with this? Ubuntu 10.10 NE, Amarok 2.4, iPod Touch 2G (... possibly 3G, but I'm pretty sure it's a 2G) running firmware 4.2.1

I have most of my music on my hard drive in one big "Music" folder, and in Amarok this is seen as the collection. Everything is imported, works fine.
Until i change the ID3 tags of a file/album. Amarok refuses to load the new tags, and keeps displaying the old tags.
I have over 200 GB of music in that folder, some of it is badly tagged. When i realize that, i retag the files with Musicbrainz. And unless i scan the entire collection again, the new tags wont be loaded. Needless to say i can't listen to the respective album/file for hours, as the rescanning of that whole folder takes at least one hour.
I've tried to search through this forum a couple of times to understand this problem, but no posts to date (that I've found) quite address it. Simply put, I am unable to get amarok to play mp3 files, which represent a large portion of my music collection.Every time I start the program, a window pops up advising me that amarok cannot play mp3 files, and it asks if I wish to install that support. Every time I click yes, it announces that the system has successfully done so, except that I might have to restart the program for the change to take effectEvery time I restart the program the same sequence happens. At no time does it ever play mp3 files.
I've tried to install every mp3 codec library I can find, none of this makes any difference.There was a time when amarok handled all this with absolutely no problem and behaved like a really good music manager, but that capability evidently was blown away by some software update that I probably wouldn't have run if I'd known what would happen.Does anyone know how to solve this? After reading various blogs, i decided to give it a try in Linux with Amarok. There again I am facing a problem.

I've been building my digital music collection for some time and used to house it on a local drive with no quality issues. A while back I built myself a file server using ubuntu and mdadm in a raid1 configuration to protect against potential drive failure. I link my iTunes library to the music files via a samba share and everything works great on the surface. I've started to notice that random songs are becoming corrupted with pops clicks and silent pauses. I'll even re-download an album and notice that it's corrupted a few weeks later. Now I'm at a loss to what is causing this issue; I ignored it at first but it seems to be getting worse and more widespread as time goes on.
Do you think this could be caused by mdadm? It reports that all is fine via 'cat /process/mdstat' but I wouldn't know where to look or what to look for if there were syncing issues. The other possibility is that I have iTunes set to keep my music folder organized for me, but I've never heard of it actually corrupting the files it shuffles around. The bottom line is that my library is getting crappier as time goes on and I cannot stand for that!
I am new to linux. I want to use a header file asm/msr.h. But the /usr/include does not contain the header file that I want. Can I just copy the whole asm directory into the directory /usr/include, and overwrite the old one?

(if you didn't change the file's name from split-trackNN.flac). All the split-track*.flac files will have tags in just a few seconds.so i did exactly what i was suppose to do but for some reason is still could not add the tags to my FLAC files..

I figured I could use sed to replace </body> with the code. However the code, is very long and has a bunch of newlines obviously. How would I be able to do this?

Since it has newlines, I don't know how to paste it in cause it would take me to a '>' prompt without allowing me to complete the sed command. I want to insert this code.

I tried the above using an existing multisession CD where data files were previously burned in a different pc using K3b. However, when the burning was completed successfully, the CD could not be read at all. I repeated the process with a blank CD choosing to leave it open in order to add more data later. All went well and the CD was readable but when I tried to add data to the same CD I got the message

I opted not to continue despite the temptation to see how invisible files can be read.
To sum it up, I find this turn of events absolutely appalling given that Brasero is the default software for CD burning in my system (Xubuntu 9.10). Can anyone tell me how to resolve this glaring shortcoming of Brasero so as to keep all my data files easily accessible in multisession CDs?
