Well, first off I cannot open any files ending in ".gpg". it says "general error" when I try to open the file. secondly, I have an external hard drive and is not being recognized by my computer. The external HD is a "One Touch" by Maxor I think. It just says "cannot open volume". How can I fix these?
View 5 RepliesA function by name abc is called in many files. I want to copy all the lines with the function call to an output file.A simple grep on function name doesn't help me as the function call is spanning across multiple lines as follows:
abc(parameter1,
parameter2,
parameter3);
So I want to copy all the three lines (till semicolon) to the output file.The problem is because there are more than 200 calls for the same function and I cannot do it manually
they keep coming up with Error: To many open files but none of the files in them are open?

When I try to open any nfs-mounted file using OpenOffice, I get a pop-up window titled "Document in Use". The text of the message is:
"Document file 'abcde.odt' is locked for editing by:
Unknown User
Open document read-only or open a copy of the document for editing." I then have three options - <Open Read-Only>, <Open Copy>, & <Cancel> If I cp any of these files from the mounted directory to my home dir (not mounted), I can open them without problem.Also, my firefox & thunderbird date are in this mounted directory as well (sym links to ~dan/.mozilla & ~dan/.thunderbird). Both of these apps hang when trying to open, leaving two processes behind that need to be manually killed. Again, cp'ing the data out of the nfs-mounted dir onto a local dir resolves the issue, so I am 100% confident there is nothing missing or corrupted in the firefox &/or thunderbird data...

I have a while(1) loop, and the error is: glibtop: open (/proc/stat): Too many open files This error occurs after about a half hour to an hour of running. I've tried running this multiple times, both with using glib_close() at the end of the loop, using glib_init() and glib_close() at beginning/end, and just using glib_init(). The strange thing is these have no effect on the actual glib_get functions.

I install Ubuntu 11.04 and enter it. Then I install all available updates(in the update manager), activate AMD/ATI closed source GPU driver(under hardware drivers).
Then I do a reboot(sudo reboot). Then I login and do a VT switch to ex:tty2(CTRL + ALT + F2). Then I input the command "Localhost$ sudo pidof X"
will show the pid I have to kill(kill as root or sudo). Then I kill the pid and the NT-A3500 would crash(usually on first try).
I started simply to end some processes to see if this would help. Ending dbus-deamon and pushing the shutdown button seems to shutdown the computer and temporarily solve the problem. I see that there are better solutions, so I hope it wont occur again.The problem is, I also ended a lot of other processes, like the clock, trashcan, workpane buttons, the sound button, the WiFi button and the show desktop button (and maybe some more I don't know of. I thought these buttons would automatically reappear after a reboot, but this is not the case. I could add some buttons manually, but I still haven't found the sound button and the WiFi button. Also, when I minimalize a window, it doesn't show anywhere on any panel.Luckily I can use alt-tab

Since the computer is inside a private house, and I never put it on standby unless I am at home, entering a password is an unnecessary nuisance. Is there some way to turn this feature off?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have installed 10.04 LTS on a few computers lately (stuck at home due to recent surgery and am trying to kill some time) and have been running into some odd issues and cannot figure out what is going on. I am hoping someone can help me out here. The installation appears to work fine every time. The systems also appear to be running without any issues. The weird thing is that every time I run an fdisk -l command, I always get these types of messages:

cfdisk also gives similar errors:
FATAL ERROR: Bad primary partition 1: Partition ends in the final partial cylinder. I am not doing anything out of the ordinary when installing Ubuntu (as far as i can tell that is). I am not pre-partitioning with external tools for example. I use the Ubuntu installer to setup my partitions.
I work as webdeveloper and I and my co-workers have one rule - if we are done with any project, we comment them with underline at the end of the directory name. For example we have domain 'devel.domain.com' and our projects are located on projectname.devel.domain.com' . Commented project looks like thisAnd here is the problem. I can not acces subdomains ended with underline. It works last time in 9.10 (i think), but since 10.04 gives me the browser only SERVER NOT FOUND. We are using this comment-method for 7 years without problems. Why is this problem in last two editions of Ubuntu?note: there is no problem with accessing ended projects under windows or osx.

I have made a report using libre office. Now I wish to continue editing the document using lyx (latex front end). So the ODT file needs to be saved as some .tex file.
I don't see an option to do this in File menu (export/save as). So is there any other plugin to do this?
I hope I won't get bashed too much on my first post here. The problem I'm experiencing seems to be well known, yet I haven't come across a definite solution to it while searching the forums. I've got an external drive connected to my laptop via eSATA. When I want to mount it as a normal user from GUI level, I'm required to supply the root password since apparently the system's policy doesn't allow external drives partitions to be mounted.
The closest solution to what I would like to achieve is given by giulix in this post. Yet, with the polkit-gnome-authorization utility removed from Fedora 12 (at least so I've heard on mailing lists), it's difficult to find out where to start in terms of policy editing. What I would like to have is being able to mount this volume as a normal user from GUI level. I know I could just add an entry to /etc/fstab, but it just seems so old-fashioned and tacky, and besides, it's not, um, "dynamic" and wouldn't utilize hal and dbus, so I wouldn't have an icon on the desktop. (it's not really the reason, I'd just like to have things done the way they should be right now).
I just installed the nmap for port scanning and then run ./configure , make , make install command respectively. It works and then I successfully installed nmap under /usr/local/bin . nmap is a executable file not .exe . so my question is how can I open it .

I chose Fedora 13.This server runs an ircd with several bots connected to it. The bot in question is a perl bot based on the old dreambot script. On the RH 7.3 server, it ran forever. On the new Fedora 13 server, it does an EOF and restarts every hour, exactly one hour after it's been started.Is there something limiting the time that a perl script can execute?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am going through cygwin's XWin.exe (XWin - queary <hostname>) to start a remote session with a RHEL 5.5 workstation. I have run gdmsetup on the worksation to allow the remote connection. Starting the remote session goes off without a problem. After about two hours, it just exits and I have to start over. This is a problem since all my gui's are killed and I have some important processes running.

I come bearing a question that I hope I can get some info on. Here's the situation: I installed Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Remix on my Acer Aspire One (didn't want it, but got it for free). I installed and am dual booting it with windows 7 basic. Both worked fine until this morning when the laptop ran out of battery and shut down.Now, on start up, the BIOS screen flashes, and its not the same BIOS screen, but I can't tell what it says, its moving too fast, the laptop then restarts. How can i use different starting and ending delimiters in awk to search for strings or numbers like:

now i want string and number as output from above lines. But if i use delimiter as : or ' it will print the entire line coz second delimiter is not same as first one.
I am giving 10.04RC a try instead of Windows 7, so far so good. I can connect to my network shares fine using "Connect to a Server" & bookmark with the file browser, however when I use OpenOffice writer Spreadsheet to open/save files the shares disappear in the"Open/Places". Is this a bug in Ubuntu or Open Office? Is there an update/fix?

View 9 Replies View RelatedOn one of my Samba shares on my server I have a folder of mp3 files of my CDs. The one I am having an issue with is "Clarence Carter/Dr. C.C." (yes, the one with the ULTIMATE party song). The "Dr. C.C." folder name is normal locally on the server, but across Samba it comes out "DMOU3A~H". It's definitely Samba doing it, because I get the same result whether accessing the share from Linux or Windoze. I can still access the folder this way, but it would be nice to not have Samba mangle the folder name this way. I am using Samba 3.4.2 on an Athlon64 X2 system running Slackware64.
