How do you convert Open Office (ODT) documents to Text files?
I have made a report using libre office. Now I wish to continue editing the document using lyx (latex front end). So the ODT file needs to be saved as some .tex file.
I don't see an option to do this in File menu (export/save as). So is there any other plugin to do this?
What is a good way to do it? I have been trying to do it using sed.

Here's a screenshot. What do you have to do to get it to work with Ubuntu? Excel works fine with Windows but I can't use Excel on Ubuntu with Open Office. This is the first time ever using Excel with Ubuntu and Open Office.
I create a file in Libre/Open Office. Put PNG graphic file into it. No problems right off the bat, but all of a sudden there are excel files stored on our linux file server that people store and share. Some of them you can open and some of them you can not open and it doesn't give a reason you can't open them it just says can't open file anyfile.xls..I attached a word doc with pic of error in excel.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have written my own matlab script to output a cell array to csv format, but I am having problems when I try to view the file in openoffice. In my script, if the length of the string in the cell is longer than 30 characters long I put a linefeed into the fprintf. This all works great and the linefeed works in Open Office, however the width of the columns are still set to the width of the entire length of the string. For example, in my cell I will have several lines 30 chars long, say four lines or 120 chars, and the width of the cell that it is contained in matches the width of about 120 chars long rather than 30. This is a problem because it shows the text all left aligned in the cell, which looks great, but there are pages of white space to the right and the next column is off the screen. This seems obviously inconvenient.If the string is longer than 30 chars I output it in the following way:
" First 30 characters of the string the rest of the string and so on"
I feel like there should be a simple solution to this but I can't find it. Is this a problem with Open Office or my understanding of csv? Would excel have the same problem? How can I fix this?
I have a gedit text file 2.2MB. I want to convert it into two orhree smaller files/volumes, so I can upload them seperately to web pages. Does anyone know a quick and easy way to do this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI can not edit my own .ppt file from samba share. Current desktop OS is windows 7. Samba server having RHEL 5 with following samba packages installed.

I can able to edit and save the file if I copy this file from samba to local system. But from Samba share it open in read only mode.
I upgraded from Kubuntu 9.10 to 10.04. It was a fresh install of kubuntu, although I did leave a windows partition on there elsewhere. Grub messed up but I fixed that with a small text edit. Anyway, when I click on a file, i.e. Open Office writer or Calc, the computer thinks about it for like 60 seconds and then finally Open Office (version 3.2.0)finishes opening the file. It also does this while saving some files. It did not do this this version 9.10 which really amazes me. I have deleted OOo and reinstalled it several times and nothing helps. All other file handling seems normal, and it is a fast newer computer with a lot of memory.

==> so the joined file must be sorted on the first number. Any ideas how this can be achieved ?
I don't know if such a thing exists but I would like to do convertion a PDF file to a spreadsheet. Do You know of any application to do this ?

If I am to open a office 2003 (doc) or office 2007 (docx) file, it will open wine and office 2007 to edit the file. This is the desired behaviour. If I am to open an office 2003 (doc) file in firefox, openoffice will be opened. does ubuntu save old versions of documents? does open office have a revert function? i really need the document that was lost and it seems like this problem is way too easy to make for there not to be safeguard,
I just updated to Ubuntu 10.10 and when i opened open office all the text is blacked or smeared, it kinda looks like someone took a pen and scribbled over the text. If the test not blacked out if you scroll over the text it is the blacked out.

error: the following is not a file or directory: home/ajpearson/Desktop/Test
It does not matter what directory I use I get the same error. I am sure the answer is obvious - but not t me.

I was working on a text file in open office writer last night, and this morning i tried to open it and a little thing popped up saying "ASCII Filter Options," prompting me for which character set, language and default fonts I wanted to use. (only after it asked if i wanted to recover the document, which i just did since it was asking me...) Now the document, which was very important, is a scrambled bunch of random characters! I cannot find the correct character set. Why is it prompting me for which character encoding I am using in the first place?
